...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 PM EDT
FOR EASTERN PENDER COUNTY...

At 306 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles northwest of
Edgecomb, or 9 miles northwest of Surf City, moving southeast at 10
mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind 
         damage to trees and power lines.

Locations impacted include...
Surf City, Hampstead, Topsail Beach, White Stocking, Topsail,
Woodside, Edgecomb and Maple Hill.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading

At 318 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Edgecomb, or
near Surf City, moving southeast at 10 mph.

The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and has exited the warned area. Therefore, the warning will

.SYNOPSIS...
A weak front will meander across the area as it drops slowly
south and east through Thursday. High pressure will build in
from the north Friday into the weekend.

&&

.UPDATE...
Front draped across Southeast NC this morning will remain focal
point for convection along with sea breeze. This will be
enhanced by dynamics aloft as mid to upper trough extends down
into the Carolinas. SPC has outlined area a marginal risk of
severe weather, mainly along and south of front where best
instability is and along stretched out area of vorticity aloft,
running right through forecast area. The biggest threat will be
damaging wind gusts.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The Carolinas lie between an upper level ridge of high pressure and
an upper low spinning over the northeast, which will bring a
combination of warm and humid weather with enough lift to bring
chances for showers and thunderstorms.  Some stronger developing
thunderstorms this afternoon and evening will bring heavy downpours
of rain and potential for strong wind gusts.

A combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to
elevated heat index values ranging from the mid 90s to in excess of
100. The young, elderly, and those sensitive to heat are at risk for
heat illness symptoms. Take extra precautions if you work or spend
time outside today, especially between 10 AM and 6 PM. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or
evening hours. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioning, and
stay out of the sun. Young children and pets should never be left
unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Deep northwest flow Wed night into Thu will transition to more
northerly late Thu and Thu night as 5h trough/cutoff over New
England moves south. The trough helps push a weak cold front across
the area on Thu. Ahead of the front, deep moisture and a shortwave
moving in from the northwest may keep convection going well into Wed
night. Drier air spreads over the area Thu and Thu night, dropping
precipitable water well below 1.5 inches by Thu afternoon. Rainfall
chances decrease will decrease later Thu and remain low Thu night.
Weak gradient will keep winds at night light with the sea breeze
dominating the wind field Thu afternoon. Temperatures will run
slightly above climo both Wed and Thu night and near climo Thu.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Cutoff low well off the Mid-Atlantic coast late in the week will
have pushed a front south of the area Fri morning. Surface high will
weakly build in, decreasing rain chances late in the week. Weak low
pressure will develop along the front near the FL/GA coast Sun and
may move up the Southeast coast Mon, potentially bringing an
increase in rainfall chances early next week.

- Limited rainfall chances Fri/Sat will increase Sun/Mon

- Along the coast temperatures will be near climo.

- Farther inland highs will run slightly above climo Fri-Sun and
  near climo Sun. Lows will be near climo.

.AVIATION /18Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
All signs point to an active weather day this afternoon and evening.
Storms are already firing, with enough coverage for a tempo group.
Lightning could be quite violent this afternoon with PWATs
approaching two inches. Brief LIFR visibilities are possible in the
stronger storms. The convection will fire well into the evening,
possibly even after midnight. Convective debris will keep cloud
cover broken through sunrise.

Extended Outlook...Expect possible MVFR/IFR conditions from isolated
to scattered showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday. Early
morning MVFR from BR remains possible.

.MARINE...
Fairly benign sea conditions with significant wave heights between 2
and 3 feet for the next 36 hours.  Main wind wave expected from the
southwest between 4 and 6 seconds and a southeast swell between 9
and 11 seconds. Wind mainly from the south at 10 kts or less with
gusts to 20 kts at times near the coast. Showers and thunderstorms
could develop during the afternoon and evening hours, some of which
may bring locally higher winds and waves.

Southwest winds Wed night will become light and variable Thu morning
as cold front moves across and then south of the area. Weak
northeast flow will develop behind the front, but onshore flow sets
up as the sea breeze takes over. Both Fri and Sat will follow a
similar pattern, with light northerly flow in the morning yielding
to weak sea breeze for the afternoon and evening. Seas will be
around 2 ft through Sat, made up of a southerly wind wave and an
east to southeast swell.

this storm. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm,
and may lead to localized flooding.
