  Battleship Road and USS North Carolina Road. Portions of River

  foot depth of water coverage for about two blocks.

* IMPACTS...North of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, one spot on

  The westbound lane of USS North Carolina Road is covered with

  block of Water Street just south of Market Street is covered 
  with about three inches of water.

.SYNOPSIS...
Much cooler and drier weather is expected this weekend as high
pressure builds in from the west. The high will move offshore
Monday and Tuesday, with temperature and humidity increasing
through much of next week.

UPDATE/...
Convection has moved seaward, regeneration is likely near the
western edge of the Gulf Stream but this will occur beyond our
area of warning. CAA is the primary theme now, and timing of
departing clouds. Most guidance suggests clearing by 9z but
suspect stratus may linger over parts of the area before full
drying early Saturday, but will continue to indicate a sunny
Saturday overall, with maximum temperatures 7-10 degrees below
normal for October 17.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
A cold upper level trough digging as far south as Kentucky and
Virginia is pushing a cold front through the Carolinas today.
Scattered showers developing within moderate instability near Cape
Fear should move offshore before sunset. Visible satellite and
surface observations show the cold front is coming through in
pieces.  The final "piece" with true cold advection behind it should
push off the coast between 5-6 PM with steady north winds leading to
diving temperatures and dewpoints overnight.

The biggest change made to the forecast was to raise forecast low
temperatures by 3-4 degrees tonight as 15-20 kt winds mixing into
the top of boundary layer within the cold advection pattern should
keep low-level lapse rates steep. Lows are expected to range from
the upper 40s across Bennettsville, Lumberton, and Burgaw to 50-54
elsewhere, warmest near the coast.

High pressure building in from the west should keep skies mainly
clear Saturday and Saturday night. Dewpoints mixing down into the
lower 40s should let afternoon relative humidity values dip to 38-40
percent, some of the lowest values we've seen since spring.
Saturday's highs are expected to reach 65-68. As advection turns
neutral Saturday night, a better radiation inversion should allow
lows to reach the mid to upper 40s with typical cold spots running
several degrees colder.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
This period will be characterized by a wedge of surface high
pressure with its axis aligned NE to SW across western NC, resulting
in a generally light northeast breeze through the period. Aloft, a
longwave trough axis will remain west of the Appalachians. West-
southwest flow aloft will remain quite dry, especially in the 850-
300 mb layer, through Monday. The low-levels begin to moisten up
Monday night, and could see some light precip begin to make its way
onshore and affect primarily the coastal counties after midnight
Monday night in association with a weak surface trough. The airmass
will continue to modify from Saturdays unseasonably cool temps.
Expect highs Sunday to reach the low to mid 70s, and mid to upper
70s by Monday. Lows Sunday night will range from low 50s inland to
upper 50s coast, and on Monday night, mid 50s inland to lower 60s
coast.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Weak surface ridge axis tries to hold on through Thursday,
before finally scouring out Friday ahead of a cold front.
1000-850 mb layer remains sufficiently moist to yield slight
chance PoPs each day, as temps warm to around 80 each afternoon
in concert with mid/upper ridge building off the SE US coast.

.AVIATION /00Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
MVFR ceilings to linger through 9z-12z before full drying and
clearing, this accompanied by NNE winds gusting to 19 kt at
times through much of the TAF cycle before easing late. VFR for
the Saturday daytime period.

Extended Outlook...VFR through the weekend and continuing into
early next week. Brief morning MVFR possible Tuesday morning
from either low stratus or fog.

.MARINE...

Tonight through Saturday night: Winds should continue to
increase in speed overnight, reaching 20-25 kt late. High
pressure building in from the west should maintain breezy
northeasterly winds through most of Saturday, and a Small Craft
Advisory will remain in effect through Saturday evening.

Sunday through Wednesday: Surface ridge axis will persist
inland through the period. Northeast flow of 10-15 kts Sunday
into Monday night will become more easterly Tuesday and
Wednesday, as a weak coastal trough moves inland and brings with
it a chance for showers. A weaker gradient will accompany the
trough and wind speeds are expected to diminish to 10 kts or
less Tuesday and Wednesday.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...

This month's New Moon is today and some of the highest astronomical
tides of the Fall season are occurring now through this weekend.
Fortunately the +0.7 to +1.1 foot water level anomaly that has been
here most of the year has temporarily faded, and tonight's flooding
is likely to be limited to the lower Cape Fear River near downtown
Wilmington.

Minor beach flooding could develop Saturday morning with the 8 AM
high tide, and a note will be included in the Hazardous Weather
Outlook for this potential. Our latest forecast has Wrightsville
Beach forecast to exceed minor stage by 0.2 feet, and Myrtle Beach
is expected to miss minor flood stage only by 0.1 feet. Minor beach
flooding will again be possible during Sunday and Monday morning's
high tides as well.
