* WHAT...Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level
expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal
waterways.
* WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown
Wilmington.
* WHEN...From 7 PM to 11 PM EDT this evening.
* IMPACTS...Water is six to 12 inches deep on the lowest parts
of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina Road. Water begins
to spread on to River Road about a quarter mile south of The
Cape Boulevard. In downtown Wilmington, water covers more than
a block of Water Street near Market Street with three to six
inches of water just south of Market Street.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be
closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of
unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone
property.

.SYNOPSIS...
Temperature and humidity will increase in the days ahead as Bermuda
high pressure settles offshore. Showers and thunderstorms will
return Thursday into the weekend as tropical moisture from the Gulf
of Mexico streams northward into the Carolinas. Rain chances will
diminish early next week.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Some slow changes in the offing through the near term
period as moisture from the south and east gradually increases.
Guidance has been somewhat consistent on a MCV or shortwave moving
up from near the Bahamas Thursday but the limited size of this
feature probably prohibits it from reaching us. The global models
want to develop a wider swath of activity offshore and near the
coast by Friday morning but this appears a bit overdone. We have
decent pops but confidence is limited as features are weak and its
early in the season for nocturnal offshore activity to make it to
the coast. Another warm one for highs Thursday with middle to upper
80s and with lows slowly increasing to around 70 by Friday morning.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will stream northward on
Friday. Afternoon thunderstorms will flourish as a weak shortwave
moves across the southeastern US. Many areas see an end to the brief
dry weather, especially along our typical mesoscale initiation
spots. The upper trough will linger over the Carolinas on Friday
evening with the moisture supply continuing. We do lose some of the
solar support, but a slight chance of a showers and lingering storms
is possible. On Saturday, there is likely to be no change in the
overall pattern and as a result, our sensible weather will follow a
similar pattern to Friday.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Upper-level flow will push TS Cristobal westward into LA/TX on
Sunday along with the high RH air mass as a surface cold front
approaches the area early Sunday. Areas along the coast and ahead of
the afternoon sea breeze will have a better chance of a stray shower
or storm on Sunday. Slightly drier air will move in behind the front
which is likely to stall just south of the forecast area. An upper-
level ridge will build across much of the central and southeastern
US on Monday. Overall, most areas will stay dry but the stalled
front positioned just south of the forecast area could be a focus
for diurnal thunderstorm activity early next week. With the ridge in
place, coverage is likely to be limited, but will keep at least a
slight chance of thunderstorms in the forecast.

.AVIATION /00Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
VFR for area terminals for the next 24 hours with south to southwest
winds not as gusty heading into Thursday afternoon. Expect
developing CB during the afternoon as vicinity thunderstorms develop
heading into Thursday evening.
Extended Outlook...Increasing moisture will bring thunderstorms by
00z Friday through mid week with varying flight rules.

.MARINE...
I really wanted to drop the Small Craft Advisory
for the waters but a couple of recent observations have trickled in
with gusts to 25 knots. Will maintain the headline until midnight.
Otherwise the southwest flow will remain in place but weaken
considerably from its current 20-25 knots to 10-15 knots Thursday.
The Piedmont Trough driving the gradient basically disappears.
Significant seas will be 2-4 feet.
The Bermuda high will supply southerly winds at 10-15 knots through
Saturday evening. Seas will generally be 2-4 feet combined with a 1-
2 foot, 9 second SE swell. The gradient wind will increase on
Saturday evening as low pressure passes well to the north and the
Bermuda high migrates eastward. Seas increase briefly to 4-6 feet on
Saturday evening and Sunday. Conditions will approach SCA thresholds
ahead of a southward moving surface cold front. A cold front will
slowly make its way into the area on Sunday, passing offshore Sunday
evening into early Monday. Northeast winds build behind the front
before veering to the east late Monday as the front stall south of
Winyah Bay. The building gradient from high pressure to the north
will continue to support easterly winds early next week at 10-15
knots. Thunderstorms are possible each day beginning Thursday
through Sunday.
