.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Saturday night)

The area remains under zonal flow aloft this afternoon with an upper
trough off the coast of California. Smoke and haze from ongoing
wildfires to our west continue to impact the region. Smoke is
expected to diminish a bit as we move further into the afternoon and
evening hours. Afternoon high temperatures will range from the mid-
80s to the mid-90s across the area. Lows will fall into the mid-40s
to low 50s.
Dry conditions will persist into Saturday as a weak ridge moves over
the area. Flow will transition to southwesterly in the morning.
Concerns for critical to near critical fire weather conditions
remain for Saturday across counties along the Kansas-Colorado
border. Relative humidity values are expected to fall into the low
to mid-teens in the western part of our Colorado counties. Winds
gusting as high as 35 mph will be possible in this area. A Red Flag
Warning has been issued for the area from noon until 8 pm MDT. Have
opted to maintain the Fire Weather Watch for our Nebraska and Kansas
counties along the Colorado border as conditions will be near
critical. Relative humidity values and winds are not in as good of
agreement to have enough confidence in going for a warning at this
time. Conditions will be close so continue to monitor the forecast
for further updates.
Overnight lows will range from the mid-40s in eastern Colorado to
the upper 50s in the eastern part of the CWA. Dry conditions will
continue into the weekend.
.LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday)

The main points of interest for the extended period are the cooler
temperatures and the potential for additional fronts moving through
the area
Starting Monday, the cold front will continue to move away from the
CWA leaving cooler temperatures and breezy conditions throughout
most of the day in its wake. Elevated fire weather may be a
possibility as well on Monday with wind gusts forecasted to be
20- 25mph along with RH values dropping into the 10-15% range
especially along and west of the Kansas/Nebraska border. The
upper level pattern resembles a long wave trough which will help
keep the temperatures around normal. There appears to be a
disturbance within the overall longwave trough that will move
through the area on Tuesday that will bring nothing more than a
wind shift as it moves through the Tri-State area as the overall
atmosphere continues to lack moisture.
The potential for fire weather again exists Wednesday as RH values
fall into the lower teens and winds continue to be breezy, this day
will continue to be monitored. Another, potentially stronger
disturbance moves into the area during the night on Wednesday which
will in return drop temperatures on Thursday again as stronger CAA
will be present with this system. I am again not expecting any
precipitation with the Wednesday night system as forecast soundings
continue to show dry atmospheric layers.
Yet another front will move into the area Saturday into Saturday.
Guidance is hinting at possible moisture advection into the area,
however upper level guidance differs on timing and placement of
the overall system so considerable uncertainty regarding any
specifics with this system exists.
Temperatures for Monday for the Tri-State area has trended slightly
warmer with highs in the 70's.A slight drop in temperatures with the
Tuesday disturbance will keep the highs in the upper 60's, before
rebounding into the 80's for Wednesday. The Wednesday night front
again drops the highs for Thursday back into the 60's where they
should remain steady into the beginning of the new weekend. Frost
may be possible Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings as
widespread temperatures near the freezing mark appear possible as
light winds and relatively clear skies look possible.

VFR Conditions anticipated for the next 24 hours. No visibility
restrictions due to smoke are currently expected. Light north
winds will become southeast by late morning, also becoming gusty.
Winds should relax around sunset once again. There could be LLWS
for an hour or two at KGLD to start the TAF period, but winds
aloft should weekend as we approach sunrise.
