.SHORT TERM...(Today through Tuesday night)

Heat and dry conditions will continue through mid-week across the
entire Tri-State area. Fire weather conditions remain a concern
today and tomorrow across the western half of the CWA.
An upper ridge will push to the east with southwest flow aloft over
the Tri-State area today. A broadening upper level trough will
expand eastward over the Dakotas today with a closed upper low
moving north into Alberta and Saskatchewan. High temperatures will
push into the mid to upper 90s this afternoon across the area.
Relative humidity values will drop into the low to mid teens along
and west of a line from Benkelman to Gove. Winds get a little more
complicated with the strongest winds over the eastern part of the
forecast area. This is due in part to a developing lee trough with
a trough axis expected to be over the Kansas-Colorado border. The
pressure gradient will be tighter over the eastern part of the
forecast area which will result in stronger winds. A Red Flag
Warning will be in effect from 11 AM until 8 PM MDT for counties
along the Kansas-Colorado border, in addition to Wichita, Logan, and
Thomas counties.
Monday night, a second closed low will move ashore over the PAC NW,
continuing to track to the east during the day Tuesday. Southwest
flow will persist over the area with the lee trough remaining over
Eastern Colorado. Winds will be stronger than Monday as the
gradient tightens over Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado. Relative
humidity values will drop into the low to mid-teens along and west
of the Kansas-Colorado border. A Fire Weather Watch remains in
effect for Tuesday afternoon and evening for counties along the
Kansas-Colorado border. The heat will continue over the Central
High Plains with highs ranging from the mid to upper 90s. Overnight
lows will dip into the low 60s to low 70s.
.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Monday)

Wed-Thu: SW flow aloft will strengthen over the region mid-week,
as an upper level low (progged to move ashore the PAC NW on Tue)
progresses into the Northern Rockies (Wed).. weakening the
Central CONUS ridge. Sensible weather conditions will be quite
sensitive to (1) lee cyclone development and (2) the distribution/
coverage of upstream convection (if any) -- all of which, in
turn, will be quite sensitive to the precise evolution of the
upper level pattern over the Central/Northern Rockies (and any
small amplitude waves therein). With the above in mind, a fair
amount of uncertainty persists with regard to temperatures and
wind speed/dir, and precipitation chances -- particularly on Thu.
At this time, hot/dry (and critical or near-critical fire weather)
conditions are anticipated to persist on Wed, followed by a
cooling trend on Thu. Isold/sct convection will be possible on
both Wed-Thu, mainly during the late aft/eve hours.
Fri-Mon: Very low confidence in sensible weather conditions
(beyond climatology) next weekend. Although long range guidance
generally agrees that westerly flow aloft will prevail in this
period -- on the southern periphery of broad cyclonic flow aloft
over the Northern Plains/Northern MS River Valley -- the
similarities end there. As such, this portion of the forecast will
be steered toward climatology.

VFR conditions with gusty southerly winds are expected through the
18Z TAF period as the surface trough of lower pressure persists
over eastern Colorado into western Nebraska. Winds decrease
somewhat during the overnight period between 04-14Z time period.
During that time, LLWS is expected to increase with wind speeds
around 45kts at 1kft AGL. LLWS will diminish after 14Z as the
overnight inversion begins to mix out and surface winds begin to
increase again.
