...Critical Fire Weather Conditions Continue...

.Hot, dry and breezy conditions are expected each of the next 
couple of days mainly in the vicinity of the eastern Colorado
border region. Widespread relative humidity values below 20 
percent are expected each afternoon with minimum relative humidity
values dropping as low as 10 percent over far eastern Colorado. 
Frequent afternoon wind gusts over 25 mph are also expected. Hot, 
dry conditions with gusty winds and a lack of rain over the region
over the last several days are creating fuels that are ready to 
burn and the critical fire weather conditions that will produce 
rapid fire growth.

Flag Warning for Sunday.

* Affected Area...In Kansas...Fire Weather Zone 014 Thomas...
  Fire Weather Zone 028 Logan and Fire Weather Zone 042 Wichita.

* Timing...11AM MDT/12PM CDT until 8PM MDT/9PM CDT Sunday.

* Winds...South 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Relative Humidity...As low as 13 percent.

* Temperatures...In the lower 80s.

* Impacts...Any fires that start will have extreme fire behavior 
  and spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not advised.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now...or are imminent. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Sunday night)

Hot, dry, and breezy conditions are the main story for the short
term forecast.  A ridge will remain over the center of the nation
through the weekend with an upper trough over the Western CONUS.
Afternoon high temperatures will be primarily in the 90s with a few
triple digits not out of the question.  Relative humidity values
will fall into the low to mid-teens in areas mainly along and south
of Interstate 70 this afternoon.  Winds gusting to 35mph will also
be possible during this timeframe.  Critical fire weather conditions
are expected for this area.  A Red Flag Warning remains in effect
for late this morning through early evening for counties along and
south of Interstate 70.

A shortwave trough embedded in southwest flow aloft will move
through the region later this afternoon into the evening.  Mid-level
lapse rates will be around 8+C/km with SBCAPE and MLCAPE around 500-
1000J/kg this afternoon.  An isolate storm or two is possible late
this afternoon and evening, however widespread coverage is not
anticipated.  Storms are expected to stay mainly in our Colorado
counties.

The heat and dry conditions will continue into Sunday.  Near-
critical to critical fire weather conditions are expected across the
entire area late Sunday morning through early evening.  A Fire
Weather Watch has been issued for the region for winds gusting into
the mid-30s and relative humidity values dropping into the teens.
High temperatures will range from the mid-90s to around 100 degrees
in the afternoon.  Conditions have been consistent over the last
couple of nights, so will need to continue to monitor this situation
for further fire weather headlines.  Overnight low temperatures will
range from the upper 50s in Eastern Colorado to the low 70s in
Northwestern Kansas.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 225 AM MDT Sat Jun 13 2020

Mon-Tue: The Tri-State area will be situated on the western
periphery of a pronounced upper level ridge (extending NNE from
the Southern Plains into the Northern MS River Valley) -- and the
far SE periphery of an upper level trough over the PAC
NW/Intermountain West. With cyclonic flow aloft confined well
northwest of the region, hot/dry conditions are anticipated to
persist, with highs in the mid-upper 90s to near 100 degrees and
critical or near-critical fire weather conditions.

Wed-Thu: Long range guidance indicates that SW flow aloft will
strengthen over the High Plains mid-week as an upper level low
moves ashore the PAC NW (Tue) and progresses into the Northern
Rockies (Wed) -- weakening the Central CONUS ridge. Sensible
weather conditions will be quite sensitive to (1) lee cyclone
development and (2) the distribution/coverage of upstream
convection (esp. in Nebraska) -- all of which, in turn, will be
quite sensitive to the precise evolution of the upper level
pattern over the Central/Northern Rockies (and any small
amplitude waves therein). With the above in mind -- considerable
uncertainty exists w/regard to temperatures, wind speed/dir, and
precipitation chances in this period.

Fri-Sat: The latest long range guidance suggests that the Tri-
State area will be further embedded within W-WSW flow aloft late
this week into this weekend -- suggesting that more active/dynamic
weather may be present in this period.

.AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Sunday afternoon)

VFR conditions will prevail for the next 24 hours. Main aviation
impact will be LLWS potential at MCK in the 03-09z time period as
low level jet gets going and winds remain somewhat decoupled.
Expect this zone of wind shear to be at base of inversion, which
will be around 800 feet. Otherwise gusty southwesterly winds will
overspread the area by 18z tomorrow.

This hazardous weather outlook is for extreme southwest Nebraska...

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for portions of the Tri-State area
this afternoon, mainly along and south of Interstate 70. This means
fires will start easily and spread quickly, making fires difficult if
not impossible to control.

A few thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon in Eastern
Colorado. A brief, isolated instance of damaging winds is possible in
association with any thunderstorm, mainly west of Highway 385
between 5 pm and 10 pm MDT.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SUNDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...

A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for the entire Tri-State region
on Sunday. A few thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon and
evening, mainly west of a Tribune to Benkelman line. Damaging wind
gusts are possible should any storm form.

Critical or near-critical fire weather conditions are possible
across the majority of the Tri-State area on both Monday and
Tuesday.
