respiratory problems, especially in children, the elderly, or 
those with pre-existing respiratory conditions. The Kansas 
Department of Health and Environment recommends taking 
preventative measures such as staying indoors or wearing 
protective breathing masks, if outside.

.SHORT TERM...(Today through Monday night)
Issued at 253 AM MDT Sat Jun 6 2020

Across the Tri State region this morning, skies are mainly clear
with some locales seeing lingering clouds from precip in NE/CO
earlier this evening. With the CWA lying in the warm sector between
a stall boundary to the north, and a trough of low pressure angling
NW/SE in Colorado, temps as of 200 AM MDT are in the 70s and
southerly winds around 5-10mph, but a few spots are seeing gusts
nearing 20 mph at times.

For today and the rest of the short term period(Sat night-Mon
night), the wx focus will remain on the hot above normal conditions,
fire wx potential in NE Colorado, high wind potential, along with
the threat for severe wx.

Upper ridge over the central portion of the country for the past
week, is finally beginning to shift eastward as a strong upper low
digs into the Pacific NW. The ridge will transition further east
going into Monday as the upper low works east into the northern
Plains/Rockies. There will be a shortwave the works along the
western CWA periphery this afternoon/evening...followed by a
trailing front/trough on Monday evening.

Between these two expected wx-makers, hot conditions will persist
over the region, with some relief starting on Mon/Mon night as
colder air works into the CWA behind the aforementioned
front/trough.

For today and tonight...surface low to the west and high pressure to
the east, combined with strong SW flow aloft, will create windy
conditions for the area. Best mixing will occur in the west where
low level winds could mix down to 50kts, and have continued the High
Wind Warning as a result. Low RH readings to persist with lowest
area in NE CO(10-15%). A Red Flag Warning is in place as a result of
this plus the expected winds. Mention of blowing dust for Hwy 27 and
points west. The shortwave passing to our N/NW later today as enough
instability with it to continue mention of a Marginal Risk for
severe storms in portions of NE CO and adjacent NE/KS. Wind and hail
threats.

For Sunday/Sunday night...low RH readings with above normal heat for
the area. Focus remains over NE CO where 10-15% is possible, with
the Red Flag Warning remaining in effect. Winds will not be as high
as today. Patchy blowing dust is also possible CWA-wide.

For Monday/Monday night...increased clouds thru the day as trailing
trough/front over the region. Instability in place to warrant
Slight/Marginal risk areas for severe wx. Best chances east. Most of
the activity will occur during the late afternoon/evening hours.
Wind/hail threats.

For temps, Saturday/Sunday for highs across the area, mainly will be
in the 90s, with a few spots near the 100F mark. On Monday, there
could be a few spots in NE Colorado that could see 80s filter in,
but 90s elsewhere. Overnight lows will range in the 60s to lower 70s
tonight and Sunday night, but for Monday night as cooler air finally
arrives, mid 40s to mid 50s are expected. Coolest locales will be
west of Hwy 25. Please refer to the Climate Section below for info
on potential record this weekend for daytime highs.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Friday)

Quiet period on tap with temperatures back to near normal. Sharp
cold front Monday night will result in much cooler temperatures on
Tuesday. May see a few lingering showers on Tuesday, but otherwise
looking at temperatures in the low to mid 70s for highs and lows
Tuesday night in the 40s. The remainder of the period will see an
upper ridge slowly rebuild over the area, with dry conditions and
temperatures slowly warming. By the end of the week they will
reach the low to mid 80s for highs.

.AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Sunday morning)

With VFR conditions expected for both terminals, the main weather
factors/concerns will be forecasted high winds and potential wind
shear over the region. Timing confidence of potential blowing
dust is low, so have left out for now.

Winds for KGLD, S 15-30kts thru 17z, then increasing to around
25-45kts. By 04z Sunday, S around 20kts. LLWS 12z-14z 210@45kts
for Flight Level 020, and again 04z-12z Sunday 180@45kts for
Flight Level 020.

Winds for KMCK, SE 10-15kts thru 15z, then SSE 15-25kts. By 19z,
SSE 20-40kts, and by 10z Sunday, diminishing to around 15-25kts.
LLWS 12z-15z 210@40kts for Flight Level 020, and from 03z Sunday
onward 170-200 degrees@50-55kts Flight Level 020.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Saturday/Sunday...A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the afternoon
hours on both days for NE Colorado. RH values dropping into the 10-
15% range, and southerly winds will be in the 35-45 mph range, but
Saturday could see up to 60 mph in spots. Adjacent counties in KS/NE
will need to be monitored as well as conditions will be close.

Monday through Thursday of next week...Elevated to Critical fire
weather conditions are possible. RH values look to be met each day,
with winds being the criteria lacking, but will be close and have to
be monitored.
