.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)

650 mb shortwave continues to move eastward across the forecast area
this morning.  Under this shortwave, a fairly narrow and transient
band of 700 mb frontogenesis persists producing a narrow corridor of
light accumulating snowfall. The shortwave will exit to the east of
the CWA by 15Z this morning, and snowfall accumulations could reach
as much as a half inch in some areas.

Today: Clouds may prove quite stubborn today, and this may lead to a
slight drop in temperatures. High temperatures in a few areas won't
reach the 30s, but won't set coldest high temperature records
because of the high being established very early this morning.

Tonight: Cloud cover remains the biggest challenge to the forecast.
Current have temperatures falling into the teens in most
locations, based on an influx of mid and high level cloud cover.
However, it's possible to see a faster fall in areas with snow
cover this evening resulting in a brief period of single digit
lows.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)

This weekend: All eyes remain focused on a very high risk of
accumulating snow across the area.  Medium range guidance continues
to drop an upper trough into the Northern Rockies on Saturday, and
this will induce an extended period of warm advection/isentropic
lift across the region beginning as early as Saturday morning. Top-
down saturation will take a bit of time on Saturday, but by mid-late
afternoon we should see snow spread across most of the CWA. An
extended period of light to moderate lift will then become
established across much of the forecast area well into Sunday.  As
mentioned in the previous discussion, there are hints as subtle
banding enhancements (focused AOA 700 mb) Saturday night into Sunday
as a weak shortwave eject northeast into the area. Right now this
area would be focused  along and just south of the Missouri River.

Soundings in general remain very positive to persistent SLR in the
12-14:1 range during the snowfall, but a 20 mph wind could lead to
some fracturing of snow crystals and SLR reduction.  That said, the
consensus snow forecast falls in the 2" to 6" range, which aligns
very well with the 25th to 75th percentiles in the plume
distribution for the event. It should be noted though that there are
a large amount of individual models spread through that
aforementioned range (depending on city of choice), likely
indicative of the transient nature of the deeper and stronger
lift. Localized higher amounts could be possible, but focused
mostly on any banding that develops. All in all, this continues to
look like a long duration advisory event.

Monday-Tuesday: Thanks to fresh snow cover, some of the coldest
air we've ever recorded in late October will be headed our way to
start the new week. Strong model consensus supports high
temperatures in the lower to middle 20s and low temperatures
falling into the single digits Sunday night through Tuesday
morning. It's possible we'll challenge the top 5 coldest October
highs and lows, and may be colder depending on the degree of fresh
snow cover. Dry conditions are likely.

Wednesday-Thursday: A continued stretch of dry weather is
anticipated through the middle and end of next week.  Temperatures
are really going to struggle to rise with the fresh snow cover, and
we'll likely stay 10 to 15 degrees below normal to finish the work
week.
