Snake River below Upstream of Warren affecting Marshall County. .Snowmelt will cause the river levels to rise as temperatures stay above freezing over the first half of the week. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Safety message - Turn around, don't drown. Don't travel through flooded areas. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. People living in the Red River basin should monitor river levels while the river is in, or near, flood. River forecasts use 24 hours of forecast precipitation between April 1st and October 1st, and 48 hours otherwise. However, depending on the situation, forecasts may include precipitation expected through the next 72 hours. .Flooding from snowmelt continues along Red River and its tributaries
in both North Dakota and Minnesota. Major flooding is expected along
the Red River at Grand Forks and Oslo as well as along the Sheyenne
River at West Fargo and Harwood. Flood crests are not yet forecast
along the Red River at Drayton and Pembina with a potential crest
around major flood stage in mid to late April possible. Minor to
moderate flooding is forecast at many sites along the Red River,
Sheyenne River, and Minnesota tributaries. Backwater and continued
snow melt will cause elongated crests for some sites, particularly
along the Red River at Grand Forks and Oslo. Secondary crests are
forecast for many sites due to expected melting of recent snow. Ice
is still present in some rivers within the central and northern Red
River basin which may cause water levels to fluctuate.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Safety message - Turn around, don't drown. Don't travel through
flooded areas. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
This forecast does not account for ice jams that can quickly raise
local river levels with little or no notice.
People living in the Red River basin should monitor river levels
while the river is in, or near, flood.
Current river forecasts include forecast precipitation from 7 am
Monday through 7 am Tuesday.

cause water levels to fluctuate. Minor to moderate flooding is
forecast at many sites along the Red River, Sheyenne River, and
Minnesota tributaries.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Safety message - Turn around, don't drown. Don't travel through
flooded areas. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
This forecast does not account for ice jams that can quickly raise
local river levels with little or no notice.
People living in the Red River basin should monitor river levels

.The tributaries to the Red River are falling with the Sheyenne near
Kindred nearing crest. Rivers are expected to continue to fall as
the snowpack has melted and no significant precipitation is expected.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Safety message - Turn around, don't drown. Don't travel through
flooded areas. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
People living in the Red River basin should monitor river levels
while the river is in, or near, flood.
River forecasts use 24 hours of forecast precipitation between April
1st and October 1st, and 48 hours otherwise. However, depending on
the situation, forecasts may include precipitation expected through
the next 72 hours.

Issued at 910 PM CDT Sun Apr 5 2020 Mid level echoes continue to develop across the western Dakotas, within the 850mb jet and warm advection. These have been fairly high based so far, and have been tracking eastward. Still have seen little evidence that anything is actually reaching the ground. UPDATE Issued at 659 PM CDT Sun Apr 5 2020 Quite a few echoes on the regional radars again this evening, but finding little evidence anything is actually reaching the ground. It remains pretty cloudy and mild, so if anything does reach the ground it would probably be in liquid form. Areas along and south of the highway 200 corridor will probably not fall below 32 degrees tonight. && .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Monday night) Issued at 322 PM CDT Sun Apr 5 2020 Water vapor shows the area in WSW flow aloft. Several 500 mb short waves, mostly weak, continue to move from southeastern Montana and across North Dakota and South Dakota. One short wave and mid level moisture moved from the Aberdeen SD area early this morning into E ND this aftn. Like yesterday a few sprinkles psbl, but moisture is mid level based and quite dry beneath it. Expect considerable mid and high level moisture tonight. Another short wave combined with 850 mb warm advection north of a developing warm front in N SD will cause some light to develop in an area from Bismark into the central RRV and then toward Bemidji thru the night. Very light amounts though, a few hundredths at best. Hi-Res models indicate the re-development of low clouds and some fog in a large part of western and central North Dakota and into the Devils Lake basin overnight and continuing to hang around for most of Monday. Even some hints that the lower clouds will move into the RRV Monday AM. If low clouds persist Monday then area temperatures will be suppressed below what has been forecasted. High temp fcst for Monday has been lowered a few degrees based on model consensus of more cloud cover over E ND. Monday night will see stronger 500 mb short wave move thru central Sask into Manitoba with an associated cold front which will be moving into E ND Monday evening, with the front then extending to sfc low pressure developing in NE SD by 03z Tue. This low has been fcst for several days now, as well as 850 mb warm advection into SE ND/WC MN. GFS/NAM soundings indicate sufficient warming in the 850 mb layer to create a fairly unstable 850-500 mb layer with MU CAPE via 12z GFS up to 1250 j/kg 03z-06z ND/SD border area with a few hundred 850 mb CAPE. Will maintain mention of thunder in SE ND into WC MN Mon night as based above and short range high res model ensembles, scattered showers and t-storms likely to develop in the southern RRV 03z period then expand in coverage as they move east. General shower activity northern RRV. Entire sfc/500 mb system is progressive and will quickly move east so that anticipate rainfall amounts will on average be light, with WPC QPF showing 0.10 or less in ND with 0.10 to 0.30 in MN. Any t-storm that forms will produce higher amounts, but this will be localized. PWATs increase to 0.80 range focused over WC MN. .LONG TERM...(Tuesday through Sunday) Issued at 322 PM CDT Sun Apr 5 2020 System moves east early Tuesday, leaving Tuesday to be a mild day before cold front arrives Tuesday evening. Colder air to follow as 500 mb trough develops over Manitoba into Ontario mid to late week. Look for temps to run several degrees below normal Wed-Sun period with some chances for light rain/snow. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Monday evening) Issued at 659 PM CDT Sun Apr 5 2020 Still looking like ceilings and visibilities will lower the most tonight/early Monday across the KDVL region, but it would likely affect the other sites too, to a lesser degree. Wind speeds will stay on the lower side at all TAF sites. Not really seeing an indication that the low stratus will lift even by Monday afternoon. && .HYDROLOGY... Issued at 300 PM CDT Sun Apr 5 2020 Minor to major flooding ongoing across the basin. Temperatures will rise above freezing and remain above freezing for most hours even overnight for the first half of the week. This warmth and scattered shower activity will combine to speed up the melt and cause river levels to rise again for most tributaries. Minor to moderate flood levels are expected with the exception of major levels at Harwood and West Fargo Diversion as Maple, Rush and Sheyenne River waters cause back water and overland flooding expands. Most points in the southern valley will see a secondary rise as a result that is near or less than the crest last week. The exceptions to that look to be Hawley and Mapleton with crests expected higher than the first both into the moderate flood stage. The initial snowmelt rise along the main stem is near and slowing at Grand Forks and Oslo near major flood stage this weekend with points north of continuing to rise. A prolonged period of high water is expected at Halstad just under major flood stage, Grand Forks and Oslo.
