continues for
  The Lookout Creek near New England.
* From tomorrow morning until Friday afternoon.
* At 10 PM Wednesday the stage was 10.3 feet and 
  rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by Thursday morning and continue
  to rise to near 14.5 feet by Thursday evening. The river will fall 
  below flood stage by late Friday morning.
* At 15 feet, Minor flooding continues to expand along Sells Lane 
  in Trenton, Mason Road near Rising Fawn, and Creek Road near New 
  England. These roads and other roads with creeks flowing into 
  Lookout Creek will flood causing the roads to be closed. The water 
  will be a few feet deep on portions of these roads. Also minor 
  flooding will continue to expand downstream as the creek crosses 
  the Tennessee border into the Tiftona area. Flooding of pasture
  and grazing land in the flood plain has already occurred.

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Thursday Night/...

Active fcst period on tap as rather high amplitude upper trough
approaches the area from the west allowing for ample Gulf moisture
transport and a developing sfc frontal system set to bring rounds of
heavy rainfall and increase thunderstorm chances mainly this evening
through Thursday. Overall QPF is more in line with higher amounts
farther southeastward given potential for some convective
banding/training seen in much of the hi-res CAMs. Have therefore
expanded the Flash Flood Watch to cover all of north and central GA.
See Hydrology section below for more details. Otherwise strong to
severe convection continues to be a potential later tonight through
Thursday given ample shear and some higher instability than we have
seen recently. Main threat is damaging winds, though with some
decent HREF probabilities of sig tor params greater than 3 going
into portions of central GA, there will be some brief tornado spin
up potential especially with any bowing segments.

Other item to watch is the strong CAA pushing in and a slug of some
enhanced moisture near the upper trough axis as it is progged to
traverse portions of north GA Friday morning. Thermal profiles
indicate fairly steep cooling/lapse rates and decent saturation
below 700 mb so have mention of rain to snow shower potential in far
north. Some light accumulations cannot be ruled out especially in
the higher mtn elevations and this will need to be monitored if any
chances increase for areas farther southward.

.LONG TERM /Friday through Wednesday/...

As the extended period begins on Friday morning, the trough axis
will have cleared the forecast area to the east, and the associated
surface low will be pushing northeastward up the Atlantic coast and
away from Georgia. It is possible to see some overrunning moisture
on the backside of the retreating system, contributing to slight
chance to low-end chance PoPs across the far northern tier on Friday
morning. Colder air quickly building in behind the system and l
lowering 1000-500 mb thickness values indicate the potential for
a rain/snow mix over far northwest Georgia early Friday morning,
shifting to far northeast Georgia later in the morning. With
temperatures remaining borderline and QPF behind the system
expected to be limited, very little to no accumulations or impacts
are expected for Friday morning

Broad upper level troughing will allow for another shortwave to
cross the Appalachians Friday night into Saturday, bringing a chance
of showers to the northern portion of the forecast area. GFS
solution continues to indicate a wetter solution, with precipitation
further south into the area. However, guidance is trending toward
better agreement on precipitation across northern Georgia, so have
maintained likely PoPS across the far northern tier and
progressively diminishing PoPs further south. Near-freezing
temperatures late Friday night into Saturday morning in the
northeast could contribute to another chance of a light wintry mix
in the far northern tier. Whether or not this occurs is contingent
upon the timing of any precipitation associated with this shortwave
and if it overlaps with freezing temperatures. A mix of rain and
snow is possible across the far northeastern mountains on Saturday
morning, with some light accumulations possible with this system.

On Sunday, surface high pressure builds across much of the
southeastern CONUS underneath zonal flow aloft, promoting dry and
gradually warming conditions as moisture begins to return to the
area on Monday. Zonal flow aloft will quickly bring in the next
system during the early parts of next week. The latest GFS
solution s once again more aggressive than the latest ECMWF, but
enough agreement in the models exists to warrant likely pops for
all of North GA through midweek next week. Modest instability is
possible as this system impacts the area, but not enough to
confidently include a thunder mention at this time.

.HYDROLOGY...

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to spread into the forecast
area this afternoon, with periods of heavy rain expected across the
entire forecast area from this evening through Thursday. During this
period, rainfall amounts will range from 2.5 to 5 inches, with some
isolated totals of 6 inches. Furthermore, soils are already soggy
from recent rainy conditions and local creeks and rivers are
currently at normal to above normal stream flow. The multiple rounds
of expected heavy rain will quickly elevate the flooding potential
especially in urban and low lying areas. These rainfall amounts and
conditions will increase the chances of at least minor flooding of
rivers, creeks, and streams. Quick-response creeks and small streams
will be the first to flood. Several rivers across the forecast area
are forecast to enter minor flood stage within the next couple of
days. The Flash Flood Watch /ATLFFAFFC/ in effect from this evening
through Friday morning has been updated with the afternoon package,
and now includes all of the forecast area.

expected, then back to IFR this evening/overnight. Expecting
increased coverage of SHRA thru period as well and enough of a
TSRA chance to have prob30 from 15-21z Thursday that could be
shifted given how storms trend. Some storms could be strong to
severe with possible damaging winds. Could have reduced VSBYs
near 3SM with any precip. Winds initially SSW near 10-12 kts that
will be close to south late this afternoon into evening (KATL will
be close to south but will keep SSW until 04z, then SSE until 08z

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight...

Isolated thunderstorms capable of producing locally heavy rain and
gusty winds are possible throughout the afternoon today, mainly
across portions of north and west Georgia. A strong storm system
will enter west Georgia tonight and push east into the overnight
period. Strong to severe thunderstorms associated with this system
could produce damaging wind gusts. A brief tornado cannot be ruled
out.

With periods of very heavy rain expected to begin tonight, a Flash
Flood Watch is in effect for north and central Georgia starting
this evening. Heavy rain will quickly elevate the flood potential
across the area overnight, especially in the higher terrain of
north Georgia, urban areas, low-lying areas, and small creeks and
streams.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday...

A strong storm system will continue to impact north and central
Georgia on Thursday, bringing periods of heavy rain along with a
chance for strong to severe thunderstorms. The threat for severe
weather will remain through Thursday afternoon, with the primary
threat being damaging winds. A few tornadoes are possible but remain
a lesser threat at this time.

The Flash Flood Watch will continue through Friday morning across
north and central Georgia. Periods of heavy rainfall will result
in widespread 3 to 4 inches across north and central Georgia
through Thursday night, with locally higher amounts up to 6
inches. Multiple rounds of heavy rain will quickly elevate the
flooding potential across the area, especially in the higher
terrain of north Georgia, urban areas, low-lying areas, and small
creeks and streams. Flooding will continue well after the rain
ends.

Light rain and snow mix will be possible across far north Georgia
on Friday morning and Saturday morning, mainly in the higher
terrain. Little to no accumulations are anticipated at this time
but this could change with subsequent forecasts.
