.Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and
rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.

The latest stage data was furnished in cooperation with the United

* Minor flooding is forecast.

* Forecast to rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 12.5 feet by after midnight tomorrow. The 
  river will fall below flood stage by tomorrow early afternoon.
* At 13 feet...Minor flooding expands along Sells Lane in 
  Trenton...Mason Road near Rising Fawn...and Creek Road near New 
  England. All these roads will be closed. Also minor flooding

  Mason Road...and Creek Road. The water will be several feet deep on
  portions of these roads. Also moderate flooding will begin 
  downstream as the creek crosses the Tennessee border into the 
  Tiftona area. Several roads near the creek will be flooded and

* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is expected to 
  continue.

* Between 15 and 17 feet, minor flooding occurs in the woodlands and 
  fields along the creek upstream and downstream from the gage on the 
  U.S. Highway 41, or Nashville Street, bridge. The flood water will 
  expand to inundate the entire area under the bridge as well as the 
  floodplain upstream and downstream of the bridge. Minor flooding of 
  the natural floodplain will also occur upstream of the gage between 
  Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41, approaching the low lying 
  portions of residential yards .

  morning then continue rising, reaching near 11.5 feet by Wednesday 
  evening. The river will fall below flood stage by Thursday

* At 11 feet, minor flooding begins in the woodlands and fields near 
  the creek upstream and downstream from the gage on the Georgia 
  Highway 146, or Cloud Springs Road, bridge. Minor flooding of the

continues for
  The West Chickamauga Creek near Fort Oglethorpe.
* Until Friday morning.
* At 9 PM Wednesday the stage was 12.1 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Flood stage is 11 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 12.3 feet by midnight. The 
  river will fall below flood stage Friday morning.
* At 13 feet...Minor flooding expands further into the woodlands 
  and fields near the creek upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  the Georgia Highway 146 or Cloud Springs Road bridge. Minor 
  flooding of the creek also expands much further downstream as it 
  crosses the Tennessee border into the south East Ridge area.

* At 12.0 feet...Flood Stage is reached and minor flooding begins. 
  Flooding begins along Sells Lane in Trenton...Mason Road near 
  Rising Fawn...and Creek Road near New England. In addition...minor 
  flooding of pasture and grazing land begins along the flood plain. 
  Minor flooding of the creek can also be expected much further 
  downstream as it crosses the Tennessee border into the Tiftona 
  area.

.UPDATE...
An area of showers and isolated thunderstorms are moving across
north Georgia, and are expected to slowly sag southward into
portions of central GA by this afternoon. Isolated strong to
severe thunderstorms remain possible over portions of central
Georgia this afternoon into early evening. Only minor changes made
to hourly temperatures as current forecast looks on track.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 345 AM EDT Mon Mar 23 2020/

SHORT TERM /Today through Tuesday/...
Currently, a wedge from the Carolinas continues its influence over
the local area with easterly flow and low level moisture locked in.
Some reduced visibility noted with this but overall, winds have
remain elevated enough to preclude any significant dense fog
development.

Meanwhile, a strong embedded shortwave continues to traverse the mid
level zonal flow to allow for widespread shower and isolated
thunderstorm development. This will move into far North GA through
the morning hours and then the remainder of North GA into the late
morning and early afternoon hours. Categorical pops in order for
this along with some isolated thunderstorm development as CAPE
builds from middle GA after 18Z. Will need to watch the wedge front
boundary during this transition period for any potential strong
storms.

Front stalls across the area Mon night and with the added influence
of subsidence on the back side of the shortwave, we should see some
areas of fog develop with dense fog potential too.
Would not be surprised to see a dense fog advisory needed for a
portion of the area into Tue morning.

Warm front lifts back to the north of Tues with activity limited to
the far northern sections. A bit concerned with amount of low level
shear present. Models continue to increase instability during this
timeframe and should see some sigtor near 2 over the NW corner by
Tue afternoon increasing the threat of severe storms including some
isolated tornadoes.

LONG TERM /Tuesday Night through Sunday/...
A cold front and fast moving upper level disturbance will be moving
to the area Tuesday night. SPC has outlooked a large portion of N
GA for a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms. The main hazards
will be strong to damaging winds, hail and even brief tornadoes.
This is due to decent ML cape and low level shear.

The front moves across the area on Wednesday with lingering shower
and thunderstorm chances ending generally early.

There looks to be a lull in the rain chances Thursday into Friday.

Shower and thunderstorm chances return to n and a portion of central GA
on Saturday and across the area on Sunday as a cold front moves to
the area.

Temperatures are expected to be well above normal through much of the
long term period.

12Z UPDATE...
LIFR conditions continue at most of the terminals at this hour as
cluster of SHRA and embedded TSRA remains to the west. A
persistence forecast for the first part with just an increase in
SHRA potential and slight increase in cig heights by this
afternoon. Along with this will be the chance for TSRA which will
be limited in nature but there nonetheless for a few hours through
20Z. A return to IFR and almost certainly LIFR in store for
tonight with increased chances for reduced visibility as well.
Winds look to shift at 18Z for ATL to the west side and generally
remain there although becoming almost calm for the overnight
period.

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible over portions
of central Georgia this afternoon into the early evening. The primary
hazard will be strong to damaging winds and hail.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday...

Thunderstorms are possible across the area Tuesday into Wednesday.
A few storms could be strong to severe over portions of north Georgia,
north and west of Atlanta, late Tuesday afternoon and evening. The main
hazards on Tuesday will be strong to damaging winds, hail and
a brief tornado or two.

Thunderstorms will be possible over north Georgia on Saturday and
across the area on Sunday.
