* Minor flooding is occurring and forecast to continue.
* Flood stage is 18 feet.
* The river is forecast to continue rising to near 23.4 feet by Sunday 
  early afternoon then begin falling.
* At 23 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand. Large portions 
  of the Macon GreenWay Ocmulgee Heritage Trail floods north of the 
  Martin Luther King Boulevard bridge. The flood waters will be up to
  3 feet deep on portions of the trail. Large portions of 
  agricultural lands east of Macon and well downstream will be under

* At 8 AM Thursday the stage was 17 feet and rising.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 21 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by tomorrow late evening and 
  continue to rise to near 25.4 feet by Monday morning.
* At 25.5 feet...Significant flooding continues in the woodlands and 
  agricutural areas upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. 
  Highway 80. The flood waters will be around two feet deep on Rex 
  Miller Road...downstream left bank of the Highway 80 bridge and Old
  River Lane...upstream and left bank from the bridge. Some of the 
  homes on these roads will begin to experience flooding. Also a few 
  homes begin to flood on River Ridge Road...downstream and right 
  bank from the U.S. Highway 80 bridge.

* At 08AM Thursday the stage was 16.5 feet and rising slowly.
* Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 16.8 feet by Friday 
  morning then begin falling.
* At 19 feet...Minor flooding expands further into the woodlands 
  and pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 
  280. The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County
  side of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part 
  of Montgomery County become surrounded with water. Some flooding 
  inside the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road
  are covered by at least a foot of water.

  is then expected to fall below flood stage by Saturday morning.
* At 22 feet...Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding occurs 
  upstream and downstream from the gage located around one half mile 
  upstream from the Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. Low lying 
  portions of woodlands and pasture in the natural flood plain will 
  begin to flood. This will include portions of the sidewalks in the 
  Oconee River Greenway Park just downstream from the bridge. 
  Sinclair Dam will have one to two gates open to reach this height.

* The river is expected to rise to near 7.1 feet by this afternoon,
  then fall below flood stage this evening.
* At 6 feet...Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding will expand 
  into the natural flood plain of the creek upstream and downstream 
  from the gage at Atlanta Highway or Georgia Highway 9. Large 
  portions of the sidewalk and boardwalk of the Big Creek Greenway 
  will begin to flood. The areas under the Georgia 400 Highway and 
  McFarland Road will be covered with around one foot of water. A 
  portion of the sidewalk under Majors Road will be covered with 
  around two feet of water.

* The river is forecast to continue rising to near 25.1 feet by after
  midnight Friday morning. The river is then forecast to fall below flood 
  stage Saturday morning.
* At 24 feet...Minor flooding continues upstream and downstream 
  from the gage located around one half mile upstream from the 
  Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. The parking lot and portions of 
  the Oconee River Greenway Park just downstream from the bridge will
  be flooded. Low lying areas of woodlands and pasture near the river
  will be flooded one to two feet deep. Sinclair Dam will likely have
  two gates open to reach this height.

* At 25.5 feet...Significant flooding continues in the woodlands and 
  agricutural areas upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. 
  Highway 80. The flood waters will be around two feet deep on Rex 
  Miller Road...downstream left bank of the Highway 80 bridge and Old
  River Lane...upstream and left bank from the bridge. Some of the 
  homes on these roads will begin to experience flooding. Also a few 
  homes begin to flood on River Ridge Road...downstream and right

  280. The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County
  side of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part 
  of Montgomery County become surrounded with water. Some flooding 
  inside the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road

  morning. The river will fall below flood stage Saturday evening.

  bank begins to overflow into agricultural lands and pastures with a 
  foot or two of water.

* At 945 PM Thursday the stage was 25.9 feet, and nearly steady.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to 
  continue.
* Flood stage is 22 feet.
* The river will continue remain steady near 25.9 feet through 
  Friday morning then begin falling, dropping below flood stage 
  Saturday morning.
* Between 24 and 26 feet, minor flooding continues upstream and 
  downstream from the gage located around one half mile upstream from 
  the Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. The parking lot and portions 
  of the Oconee River Greenway Park just downstream from the bridge 
  will be flooded. Low lying areas of woodlands and pasture near the 
  river will be flooded one to two feet deep. Sinclair Dam will likely

  the woodlands near the river occurs.
  
  At 21 feet, moderate flooding begins. The dirt parking lot by the 
  Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp is under one to three feet of water 
  and the end of Old Balls Ferry Road begins to flood. Flooding 
  continues and spreads further into the woodlands near the river.

  At 23 feet, moderate flooding continues. Portions of the Old Balls 
  Ferry Road leading to the boat ramp becomes flooded with a foot of 
  water or more. The entire dirt parking lot near the boat ramp is 
  under three to five feet of water. Extensive flooding of the

* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by Friday afternoon 
  and then continue rising, reaching near 25.9 feet by Monday morning.
* At 20 feet, bankfull conditions occur along the river upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 80. Water begins to spill 
  out into the flood plain.
  
  At 21 feet, minor flooding begins in the woodlands and natural flood 
  plain along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. 
  Highway 80.
  
  At 25 feet, moderate flooding begins with significant flooding in 
  the woodlands and agricultural areas upstream and downstream from

  morning.
* Between 13 and 15 feet...Minor flooding occurs along the river upstream 	 
  and downstream from the gage on the Georgia Highway 15 bridge. The right 	 
  bank begins to overflow into agricultural land and pastures with a foot or

* At 745 PM Friday the stage was 25.3 feet, and steady.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 22 feet.
* The river will continue to fall to below flood stage early 
  Saturday morning.
* At 24 feet...Minor flooding continues upstream and downstream 
  from the gage located around one half mile upstream from the 
  Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. The parking lot and portions of 
  the Oconee River Greenway Park just downstream from the bridge will
  be flooded. Low lying areas of woodlands and pasture near the river
  will be flooded one to two feet deep. Sinclair Dam will likely have
  two gates open to reach this height.

UPDATE...

Current forecast grids continue on track. Widespread light to
occasionally moderate rain continues across the forecast area. The
persistent area of heavy rain along the southern fringe of the
forecast area has eased somewhat. Threat for isolated severe
thunderstorms, although not completely gone, has also eased a bit for
now, however, the complex system driving this event remains a potent
system. A marginal threat at least, will persist across the southern
end of the forecast area into Thursday.

.00Z Aviation Forecast Discussion...

SHORT TERM /Tonight through Thursday Night/...

Rain will continue across the area through Thursday
afternoon/evening...Then we finally get a break. Current mosaic
radar loop shows showers and thunderstorms extending from the TX/NW
border to the Carolinas. Also there is a closes low developing along
the TX gulf coast and it will move east along the coast through
tonight. This low will pull all this moisture eastward with it
allowing a high pressure center to build south out of the central
plains behind it. This ridge is what will shut the rain off for the
weekend. The closed low center will be centered over the Northern by
18z  and push off the GA/FL/SC coast by 009z Friday. Drier air
begins to push into N GA Thu evening with things clearing out across
the entire state by Friday morning. With the main low centered
expected to stay south of our CWA the best instabilities are also
expected to stay south. We will see some isolated storms tonight and
Thursday but not expecting much in the way of strong to severe
storms. This is right in line with SPC keeping the slight risk area
across South GA through Thu night. Temps Tonight and Thu night
expected to stay mainly in the 40s. Highs expected in the 50s Thu.

LONG TERM /Friday through Wednesday/...

Relief from the rain is on the horizon! The long term period
kicks off on Friday morning with northwest flow aloft across the
eastern U.S. with upper-level ridging and surface high pressure
settling in across the Southeast on Saturday and Sunday. This will
lead to dry conditions and temperatures (especially lows) across
the CWA around 5-10 degrees below average through the weekend.

The next chance for rain will come with a low pressure system and
attendant cold front approaching from the west on Monday
evening/overnight, though there are model discrepancies in terms
of timing. The GFS is faster in bringing rain to north Georgia
(with rain progged to reach northwest Georgia as early as Monday
night) with the main axis of rain meandering across north Georgia
into Tuesday. The ECMWF, on the other hand, is currently a good 6

Widespread showers are ongoing across north Georgia and are
expected to redevelop over central Georgia by 12Z, and are
will continue until pushing eastward out of the forecast area
between 18Z and 00Z. Some isolated thunderstorms are also expected
throughout the day, with the greatest chances at CSG/MCN. VFR
ceilings are in place across all TAF sites and are anticipated to
lower to MVFR by 08-09Z, then IFR or lower by 12Z. IFR conditions
will then hold until until 20Z before steadily improving to VFR by
02Z. E to NE winds at 5-10 kts will increase 10-14 kts with gusts
up to 20 kts by 16Z, decreasing in magnitude and shifting to NW
around 02-03Z.
