* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 18 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage this evening, then continue to
rise to near 22.1 feet by Thursday evening. The river will fall
below flood stage by early Sunday morning.
* At 18 feet...Minor flooding begins along the river upstream and
downstream from the gage at U.S. Highway 80 or Martin Luther King Boulevard. Portions of the Ocmulgee Riverwalk and agricultural lands well downstream will be under a foot of water.

continue to rise to near 19.2 feet by Saturday evening.
* At 17 feet...Flood stage is reached. The water level reaches the top of
the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and rightbank from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding of woodlands near the river occurs.

morning.
* At 15 feet minor flooding continues. Water continues into the
broad swampy flood plain. Farm fields on the right bank flood.
General agriculture and timber interests are affected by the
flooding. In addition, water reaches the top of the boat ramp
near the Highway 341 bridge.

sidewalk and boardwalk of the Big Creek Greenway will be flooded.
The areas under the Georgia 400 Highway and McFarland Road will be
covered with around two feet of water. A portion of the sidewalk
under Majors Road will be covered with around 3 feet of water.

* The river is forecast to continue rising to near 9.5 feet by this
evening, then fall below flood stage Friday morning.
* At 10 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek from near
Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale
Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are
under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences
significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths.
This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on
Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a two feet of
water.

The Chattahoochee River near Whitesburg.
* From late this afternoon until Thursday evening.
* At 1 AM Wednesday the stage was 11.6 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 17 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and
continue to rise to near 18.5 feet by tomorrow morning. The river
is then forecast to fall below flood stage by tomorrow afternoon.
* At 19 feet...Minor flooding continues in the woodlands and fields
upstream and downstream from the gage at U.S. Highway 27 or Georgia
Highway 16. The parking lot of Riverside Park next to the bridge
will begin to flood. A sod farm upstream also experiences flooding.
Flooding occurs on some unimproved dirt roads along the river. The
playground at a day use area in the Chattahoochee Bend State Park
will be under two feet of water. Flood waters will surround tent
platforms on the North Camping Site of the park.

Riverdale Road and Georgia Highway 138. Some roads begin to flood
such as Upper Riverdale Road and Mockingbird Road. Flooding expands
on portions of the Rivers Edge Golf Course. Several holes and
fairways will flood.

Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale
Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are
under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences
significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths.
This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on
Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a two feet of
water.

will be under two feet of water. Flood waters will surround tent
platforms on the North Camping Site of the park.

Hawkinsville along Gooseneck Lane. With the flooding of Gooseneck Lane
residents are cutoff from reaching their homes. The water will be from
1 to 3 feet deep over the road.
At 26 feet, Moderate flooding begins with several homes surrounded by

river will fall below flood stage by late Friday morning.
* At 18 feet, Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding begins along the
river upstream and downstream from the gage at U.S. Highway 80 or
Martin Luther King Boulevard. Portions of the Ocmulgee Riverwalk and

The boat ramp parking lot is flooded on the Wheeler County side of
the river. Some homes on Dead River Road in the south part of
Montgomery County are surrounded with water and some flooding inside
the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road are
covered by at least a foot of water.

below flood stage by tomorrow evening.
* At 22 feet...Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding occurs
upstream and downstream from the gage located around one half mile
upstream from the Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. Low lying
portions of woodlands and pasture in the natural flood plain will
begin to flood. This will include portions of the sidewalks in the
Oconee River Greenway Park just downstream from the bridge.
Sinclair Dam will have one to two gates open to reach this height.

upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. The boat
ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County side of the
river. Homes on Dead River Road in the south part of Montgomery
County are surrounded with water and some flooding inside the
structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road are covered
by at least a foot of water.
At 20 feet, moderate flooding begins with significant flooding in
the woodlands and pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on
U.S. Highway 280. The access road to the boat ramp on the Wheeler
County side of the river begins to flood. Around a dozen homes on
Dead River Road in the south end of Montgomery County become
surrounded with water. A few homes will have some flooding. Portions
of Dead River Road will be covered by at least two feet of water.

280. The boat ramp parking lot is flooded out on the Wheeler County
side of the river. More homes on Dead River Road in the south part
of Montgomery County become surrounded with water. Some flooding
inside the structures is possible. Some portions of Dead River Road
are covered by at least a foot of water.

Baker && .PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 415 AM EST Tue Feb 18 2020/ ..Morning Area Forecast Discussion... SHORT TERM /Today through Wednesday/... Main focus dominating the short term is with expected widespread showers and slight thunderstorm potential driven by an initial upper shortwave today. The area of precip is currently pushing into the western CWA at the time of this discussion and has had some persistent isolated embedded lightning with an axis of elevated low end CAPE. While the shear params remain limited, no strong to severe intensity is expected and should be just general thunder. Behind this initial wave, the upper SW flow and Gulf moisture transport will continue along and ahead of a cold front progged to push relatively slowly southward across the area late tonight into Wednesday. Overall total QPF looks to be 1.5 to 2 inches across the northern majority of the area with the heavier amounts likely today into tonight. PWATs do look to be quite high and supportive of highly efficient rainfall, close to 1.5 inches and upwards of 1.75 inches into some central/southern portions of the CWA, which could even flirt with climo records. Have opted to hold off on any flood watch given uncertainty with how much rainfall occurs with the initial wave. Future updates may warrant a possible issuance if amounts trend higher. While temps should be decently above normal today with highs in the mid to upper 60s for most areas (even low 70s across the south), the aforementioned fropa will limit north GA to the low to mid 50s on Wednesday. Baker && .LONG TERM /Wednesday Night through Monday/... We begin the long term period on Wednesday Night with what is likely to be a slight break in between two rounds of heavier rain. At mid-levels, drier air will have pushed southward to its most southern extent before a surge of moisture moves back into the southeast for a second bout of rain showers in the region from early Thursday morning through Thursday Night. This round of rain is likely to drop another 0.5-1 inches of rain across central Georgia. In recent model runs, there have been hints of a possible mix of wintry-type precip for far Northern Georgia from Thursday morning to Friday morning with residual showers. However, temperatures are expected to be above thresholds for frozen precipitation to make it to the ground at this time; this occurs even in model runs producing frozen precip with vertical profiles that would suggest melting. For now the only expectation for wintry precip will be for the highest elevations in the mountains on late Thursday night but conditions will need to be monitored going forward. Going into Friday and the weekend, we'll have our first break from precip in the forecast!
