* At 8PM Wednesday the stage was 4.7 feet...and slowly rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by tomorrow afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 16.5 feet by early Friday morning.The 
  river will fall below flood stage by Saturday morning.
* At 17 feet...Moderate flooding begins. Several small buildings 
  near the New England hang gliding recreation park begin to flood. 
  Several roads in Dade county will be closed including Sells Lane...
  Mason Road...and Creek Road. The water will be several feet deep on
  portions of these roads. Also moderate flooding will begin 
  downstream as the creek crosses the Tennessee border into the

  continue to rise to near 16.5 feet by after midnight tomorrow. The 
  river will then fall below flood stage by Saturday morning.
* At 15 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand along Sells Lane in 
  Trenton...Mason Road near Rising Fawn...and Creek Road near New 
  England. These roads and other roads with creeks flowing into 
  Lookout Creek will flood causing the roads to be closed. The water 
  will be a few feet deep on portions of these roads. Also minor 
  flooding will continue to expand downstream as the creek crosses the

* The river will continue rising, reaching near 8.4 feet Friday 
  morning. The river will fall below flood stage Saturday afternoon.
* At 8 feet, minor flooding continues to expand further into the 
  woodlands and fields along the creek from near Cumming in south 
  Forsyth County to Alpharetta and Roswell in north Fulton County. 
  Additional portions of The Big Creek Greenway have minor flooding 
  with 1 to 2 feet of water. Most of the walking and biking paths 
  will be closed, especially upstream and downstream from the gage 
  on Kimball Bridge Road and near Rock Mill Park and portions of the 
  YMCA Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be flooded.

  The Big Creek near Alpharetta.

* The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by tomorrow 
  late morning.
* At 8.0 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the 
  woodlands and fields along the creek from near Cumming in south 
  Forsyth County to Alpharetta and Roswell in north Fulton County. 
  Additional portions of The Big Creek Greenway have minor flooding 
  with 1 to 2 feet of water. Most of the walking and biking paths 
  will be closed...especially upstream and downstream from the gage 
  on Kimball Bridge Road and near Rock Mill Park. Portions of the 
  YMCA Campground off Preston Ridge Road will flood.

SHORT TERM /Today through Thursday/...

While today should see continued dry and seasonable conditions with
a lax in the gradient winds as the sfc high center slides into the
region, focus shifts moreso on Thursday ahead of the next system.

As the upper trough amplifies across the central Conus and phases
with a lobe of energy farther south, Gulf moisture transport will
greatly increase across the western and northern CWA throughout the
day Thursday. Have slight to chance pops for showers across the
western and northern majorities beginning with initial isentropic
upglide and warm frontal progression Thursday morning, then ramp up
to likely and categorical pops through the day mainly along and west
of the I-85 corridor. Some showers could be quite efficient given
the high PWAT regime of near or above 1.5 inches and potential
training. With increased WPC QPF storm totals maxing out to 3-4
inches in the far NW and inclusion of a Day 2 Slight to Marginal
Excessive Rainfall Outlook, have coordinated with northern
neighboring offices to issue a Flood Watch. This extends along and
northwest of a Rome to Fairmount to Chatsworth line from Thursday
afternoon through Friday, and may end up being extended farther
eastward in future updates.

.LONG TERM /Thursday Night through Tuesday/...

The long term will begin in the midst of a Flood Watch for
Northwest Georgia, as a corridor of heavy rain sets up across the
Southeast and Tennessee River Valley. Synoptically, a deep
longwave trough will be positioned across the Southern Rockies and
Mexico, with southwesterly flow providing a large fetch of
moisture into the region. A surface low pressure will form and
move across the Midwest by Friday. As the low moves into the Lower
Great Lakes, a cold front will sweep through on Friday evening,
ending the heavier rain. Model guidance is also forming some
wrap- around precip for far northeastern Georgia Saturday Night,
perfectly timed with the upper-level trough axis which will cool
low-level temps enough for some very light snow flurries.

Following the next storm system, dry weather is in storms to begin
the next week, after that model guidance diverges significantly
with the next storm system expected a full day apart with some
long-term model runs. Consistency will improve with time, but for
now, expecting just a chance for precip, with no definitive time
frame, while splitting the difference with temperatures. Despite
a mix of cooler temps and precip, if winter weather forms for far
north Georgia, it would be early Wednesday morning...according to
the GFS solution...but no accumulations are expected given how
much variance and little confidence the Day 6-7 forecast holds.

increase in alto coverage late today into Thursday. Expecting
lower of cigs in 3500-5000 ft range after 16z Thursday with
possible MVFR near KATL after the end of fcst. West winds 5-8 kts
today shifting more SW and becoming light after 00z Thursday.
Should have SE shift at KATL after about 10z Thursday. Shower
chances on the increase in 12-18z Thurs period and thereafter.

A Flood Watch is in effect from Thursday Afternoon through Friday
evening for portions of far northwest Georgia. Waves of moderate
to heavy rainfall can be expected across north and central Georgia
averaging between one to four inches. Locally higher amounts will
be possible. Persistent, heavy rainfall could lead to flooding of
creeks, streams and rivers, as well as roadways and low-lying
areas.

A slight chance of thunderstorms will also be possible across
portions of north Georgia Thursday Night and the rest of the
forecast area on Friday. Any storms that develop are not expected
to be strong, and no severe weather is expected at this time.
