.SYNOPSIS...Near seasonal temperatures and dry weather will persist
across Northwest California during the next seven days. In
addition, northwest to west breezes will continue for at least
the next couple of afternoons, but will trend lighter compared to
earlier in the week. Otherwise, nightly bouts of marine stratus
will continue over portions of the coast and the Eel River
Valley.

.DISCUSSION...Broad upper troughing occurring over SWRN BC and the
PAC NW is forecast to persist during the next seven days. However,
shortwave impulses embedded within the larger scale gyre will
remain north of NWRN CA. Thus, dry weather is highly probable,
though light patchy drizzle can't be ruled out with nightly bouts
of marine stratus developing in the vicinity of the coast. The
first round of stratus is forecast to occur tonight, initially
developing over Humboldt Bay southward around the tip of Cape
Mendocino. Southerly winds may develop late tonight along the Del
Norte coast, which would aid in stratus spreading north toward
Crescent City. Stratus may dissipate during Friday afternoon, only
to redevelop during Friday night. Otherwise, afternoon highs will
generally remain in the 80s to around 90 degrees across interior
valleys during the next seven days.

.AVIATION...Clear skies and lighter winds are occurring along
most of the coast and interior of NW California. VFR conditions
are prevailing at KACV and KUKI. Meanwhile, marginal MVFR
conditions are lingering at KCEC due to hazy skies. Sky
conditions at KACV and KCEC are expected to change during the
evening due to the development of the marine layer and stratus
clouds along the coastal region. This may result in lower MVFR or
IFR conditions at KACV and KCEC. The arrival time of the lower
ceiling is uncertain. Otherwise, KACV and KCEC should stay with
low ceilings into early afternoon on Friday. Elsewhere, VFR
conditions will prevail across the interior.

.MARINE...While the are some localized spots across the coastal
waters that area seeing strong winds and steep seas continue
today, the strongest winds are not nearly as widespread as
Wednesday, which is allowing seas to begin to lower. Still, areas
near Pt St George and particularly in the usual 'core' on the lee-
side of Cape Mendocino, wind gusts in the 30 to 35 kt range will
be found through this evening. Meanwhile, winds generally lighter
elsewhere, especially nearshore outside of those aforementioned
spots. Those winds downwind of the Cape are helping to maintain
hazardous seas particularly over portions of the outer waters, so
will continue a Haz Seas Warning there through this evening.
Otherwise, Small Craft Advisory conditions will likely be the rule
through Friday, but with lighter conditions off Humboldt Bay and
along the immediate Mendocino coast. Heading into the weekend,
winds and seas will continue to become more tolerable from near
Cape Mendocino northward, but will also continue to funnel around
the Cape and result in persistent Small Craft Advisory conditions
to the south. That pattern may last even through the middle of

.FIRE WEATHER...Critically low RH values are forecast to occur
this weekend over interior portions of NWRN CA, with poor
recoveries expected within the thermal belt located across mid to
upper mountain and ridge slopes. In addition, model guidance shows
winds becoming gusty out of the west-northwest during the
afternoon hours, with gusty winds persisting at ridgetop level
through late night. The dry airmass and locally gusty winds will
yield elevated fire weather conditions over portions of Lake and
southern-eastern Mendocino Counties Saturday and Sunday.
