.SYNOPSIS...Dry weather and hot interior temperatures will
persist through Friday as high pressure continues to build over
Northwest California. Onshore breezes will keep coastal areas
seasonable cool, along with periodic episodes of overnight and
early morning marine stratus. There is a chance for rain on the
weekend.

.DISCUSSION...High pressure remains in place over California.
Tonight and tomorrow a weak shortwave moving into the Pacific
Northwest will impact the area slightly on Tuesday. This is
expected to bring more widespread coastal stratus and possible
drizzle to the coast north of Cape Mendocino tonight. This may
take some time in the morning to clear out. Inland the only impact
is expected to be a slight pause in the warming with temperatures
remaining similar to today.
Wednesday high pressure is expected to continue building in and
temperatures will continue to warm slightly. Highs are expected
in the mid to upper 90s across the interior. Offshore flow may
increase slightly Wednesday afternoon and Thursday allowing the
coast to warm slightly and possibly clear out more quickly.
Thursday night into Friday morning an upper level low starts to
approach from the southwest. This is expected to start to bring
southerly winds to the inner waters and likely a stratus surge.
This may keep the near coastal areas slightly cooler as the
marine layer deepens on Friday. Trinity and lake counties may see
their hottest day with highs close to 100. The marine clouds on
Friday will likely be more persistent as well.
For the weekend an upper level low approaching from the southwest
is expected to bring some showers and possible thunderstorm. There
are still some timing differences in the ensemble models for this
system and when there will be rain or thunderstorms. For now have
thunderstorms in the forecast for Saturday, but there is also the
potential for Sunday if the system slows down. Rainfall amounts
are not expected to be very large, but temperatures in the inland
areas will be much cooler. MKK

.AVIATION...Late morning: Patches and pockets of coastal stratus
lowered Cigs into IFR along a stretch from Eureka-Arcata- Crescent
City. Bits and pieces of an elongated swathe of marine clouds had
started drifting back towards the coast again shortly after
noonday. Around 1 PM, IFR Cigs had returned to CEC...and Few-Sct
low clouds were also seen from EKA-ACV. Therefore, stratus clouds
will linger along the coast through afternoon and start filling in
at the coastal terminals by mid evening and certainly by late
evening/overnight. Interior areas will remain VFR/Sct250. Surface
winds at the coast were generally a little weaker today as the
gradient was more relaxed north of Cape Mendocino. However,
isolated gusty areas along the coast expected through afternoon.
South of the Cape, expect winds to be a tad bit stronger. /TA

.MARINE...Breezy northerly winds across the waters this afternoon
generating steep waves. There is also a NW swell around 13 seconds
and a small south swell of 2 ft at 19 seconds moving through the
waters. These conditions are expect to persist through Tuesday
morning. Tuesday afternoon the northerly winds north of Cape
Mendocino will diminish to around 10 to 15 kt and steep waves
will remain below 6 feet so will allow the SCA to expire at 9am
Tuesday.
Wednesday morning these winds and waves will pick back up again to
around 20 kt. A sca will likely be needed once again. Farther
south the winds will remain elevated. Extended the SCA for the
southern waters through Wednesday night. This will likely need to
be extended through Thursday night as winds look to remain
elevated.
Friday and into the weekends winds will diminish as an upper level
low approaches the area from the southwest. Also early on Friday
another northwest swell starts to move into the waters and build
to around 6 to 8 feet before subsiding over the weekend.
Thunderstorms are possible in the northern waters over the
