.SYNOPSIS...Dry weather and increasing interior temperatures are
expected for the foreseeable future as high pressure continues to
build over the region. By early next week, interior temperatures are
forecast to climb into 90s for portions of the area. Coastal
locations will remain seasonably cool with onshore breezes, along
with periodic late night and morning low clouds.
&&
.DISCUSSION...As expected, morning low clouds mostly cleared out
with mostly sunny skies as of this writing. Still some lingering
scattered cumulus clouds as residual low-level moisture pools on
the windward side of the terrain. Winds have been gusty along the
coast and over the higher terrain. Winds will begin to decrease late
this evening and, as a result of some increased mixing, the
development of fog/stratus should be mostly inhibited. That being
said, patchy stratus cannot be ruled out in the Eel River Valley
and in the vicinity of Humboldt Bay later tonight.
Mostly clear skies and additional diurnal rounds of breezy winds
are expected this weekend, albeit a less pronounced compared to
today. A significant warming trend is expected to begin this
weekend as high pressure builds over the West Coast. Saturday's
interior high temperatures will range 5 to 10 degrees warmer
compared to Friday. Afternoon highs are expected to approach 90
degrees in some of the warmer interior valleys on Sunday. The
warming trend will continue into the middle of next week, with
highs forecast to rise into the lower to upper 90s by Tuesday.
These hot interior temperatures will continue through late in the
week, but the peak appears to be on Wednesday. The latest models
have trended up a bit with temperatures during the middle of the
coming week. If this continues, we may need a Heat Advisory for a
small portion of E Lake County, but will defer this decision to
later shifts to establish more certainty.
Coastal areas are expected to maintain seasonably cool
temperatures during this period as onshore flow is expected to
prevail. Additionally, periods of late night and early morning
stratus will be possible along the coast. The prominent high
pressure over the region will begin to break down late next week
as a low pressure system approaches from the SW. This will bring a
little relief from the hot interior temperatures starting next
Friday. /SEC

.AVIATION...Strong Northerly winds and significant gusts are
impacting the North Coast this afternoon and should last through
this evening. Sustained winds of 20-25 kts with gusts of 35 kts or
more are expected until 09z, approximately. KCEC and KACV are
expected to remain in VFR with some low clouds possibly filling in
at KACV and inland valleys later tonight. Clear skies may promote
radiative cooling and subsequent low, patchy fog late tonight into
early Saturday hours. KUKI is in VFR this afternoon with gusty north
winds trailing off to light winds this evening. /EYS

.MARINE...High pressure offshore combined with inland low pressure
to build steep gradients promoting strong spring Northerlies that
should last until tonight. Winds are reaching Gale force criteria
this afternoon for all waters with advisories in place to warn that
both winds and seas are hazardous. Conditions at sea are expected
to remain elevated through tonight. A fresh NW swell arrives late
this weekend. Short period wind-driven waves dominate the sea state
