.SYNOPSIS...North winds will transition to east-northeasterly
today through Tuesday, with gusty conditions expected across
exposed ridges. In addition, east-northeast winds will promote
warm dry weather through early portions of the upcoming work week.
Otherwise, the next chance of light rain will occur with a weak
frontal system on Thursday.

.DISCUSSION...A large amplified upper ridge was present over the
NERN PAC Sunday morning, while a potent shortwave trough was
moving south from Nevada toward southern California. This upper
air pattern will favor the development of offshore winds across
the region, which will promote dry weather, mainly clear skies,
and warming afternoon temperatures that are forecast to reach the
60s for many valley locations during Monday and Tuesday.
The offshore flow regime is forecast to dissipate during midweek,
with cooler and more humid conditions returning through the
remainder of the week. In addition, model guidance shows an
upper-level shortwave trough moving southeast across the PAC NW
region during Thursday. A weak frontal boundary associated with
the trough will aid in light rainfall over northwest California,
with scattered showers lingering behind the front during Friday.

.AVIATION...Brisk and dry northerly flow is currently working its
way across the region. The gusty northerlies will begin to
diminish with just a few clouds are working their way down the
coast but low level winds will now begin to turn northeasterly
pushing any clouds well off the coast. Thus widespread vfr
conditions are expected as high pressure aloft and offshore flow
combine to keep skies clear. This favorable weather pattern is
expected to last for at least a few days.

.MARINE...A large steep sea state will continue today due to the
strong and persistent northerlies that are just now starting to
diminish. A gale warning remains in effect for PZZ475, while a
hazardous seas warning is in effect for the remaining marine
zones. Will allow these warnings to run until later this morning
when northerly winds are forecast to ease up nearshore. However,
the steep seas will remain elevated through much of the week and
will continue to be the main hazard throughout for the inner
waters. High end small craft advisory winds and/or near gale
conditions (25-30kt) are expected to persist 10-60NM offshore. WNW
swells from NEPAC storms will continue to propagate into the
coastal waters through next week.
