.SYNOPSIS...After a break in the weather tonight, a more substantial
storm system will bring moderate to locally heavy rain and some high
mountain snow Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night, with some
lingering showers into Thursday.

.DISCUSSION...Area rains have been gradually becoming lighter,
more showery, and less widespread through the day. This trend will
continue into the evening hours, with a break in the weather
tonight. A more potent front will approach the area on Wednesday,
with more widespread and heavier rains. Overall precipitation
amounts look similar to last weekend's system, but there could be
some rainfall amounts around 3 inches in west or southwest-facing
mountainous terrain of Del Norte and extreme northern Humboldt
counties. The bulk of the rain will fall from midday Wednesday
through the evening, with some lingering showers into Thursday
morning. There is a very slim chance of some isolated thunder
Wednesday night, mainly over the coastal waters.
Forecast snow totals for the next event have been adjusted down a
bit, with 2 to 4 inches around Scott Mountain Summit. Higher
amounts will be likely in the higher and more sparsely populated
terrain, but, at this time, will not be issuing an advisory. Snow
levels are expected to be around 4500 feet, with some lower snow
levels initially in some areas where cooler air is trapped.
Southerly winds accompanying Wednesday's front may be more
pronounced Wednesday afternoon along the Redwood coastal bluffs
and nearby ridgetops, with gusts to 35 mph, if not locally
briefly higher.
After another break in the weather of Friday, looks like this
weekend's system will still be mostly focused N of the area. The
GFS keeps much of our area mostly dry, while the ECMWF stalls a
weakened front across Del Norte County, with mostly light rainfall
accumulations. /SEC

.AVIATION...A weak front is slowly dissipating across the area this
afternoon. Some lingering showers and onshore flow are bringing
plenty of moisture and MVFR conditions to the northern portions of
the area this afternoon. These low level clouds are expected to
slowly move south this evening. Tonight this low level moisture is
expected to start to get moved out of the area as southerly winds
increase ahead of the next front. Timing this will be tricky and
confidence is low on this aspect. A warm front is expected to bring
a period of rain late in the morning and early afternoon. KACV may
continue to see VFR conditions through this period with the
downsloping southerly winds while KCEC may see MVFR to IFR
conditions by mid to late morning. Gusty winds are expected through
he afternoon. Some LLWS is possible at KACV early in the afternoon
as the warm front moves onshore.

.MARINE...Brisk southerlies of 10 to 25 kt continue across the
waters this afternoon and these will diminish tonight. The
northwesterly swell has dropped to around 8 feet as of noon, but has
started to increase slightly already this early this afternoon. The
next will is expected to arrive in the waters this afternoon. The
forerunners have just started to show up at buoy 46027 in the energy
plots. This is expected to build quickly tonight to around 17 to 19
feet 16 seconds. The high surf advisory looks on track with breakers
of 22 to 24 feet expected on the west facing beaches. Winds with the
next front are expected to increase in the morning and then peak in
the late afternoon as the front moves onshore. These winds are
expected to peak near gale force, but currently it looks like they
will not be widespread enough to warrant a gale warning.
Wednesday night into Thursday wind will slowly switch to the
northwest behind the front and increase to around 15 to 25 kt.
Meanwhile the large well is expected to slowly diminish to around 12
to 14 feet Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon and evening another
swell is expected to increase the wave heights again, but they are
not expected to be as large as the swell moving in tonight.
Friday and into the weekend seas are expected to remain elevated
with the current ENP showing heights remain over 10 feet with
periods of higher seas. Another front is expected to move through
over the weekend as well, however most models show wind remaining
below gale force. MKK

.BEACH HAZARDS...This next swell is expected to be larger with a
slightly longer interval than the last swell, with deep-water wave
heights expected to reach the high teens around 17 seconds. Surf
heights are still expected to reach 20 to 25 feet on area beaches
tonight, and the High Surf Advisory still looks on track. Coastal
flooding is not expected to be an issue. The anomalies don't look
large enough to push heights over highest astronomical tide and the
