.SYNOPSIS...A series of frontal systems will move across the
region during the next seven days. Light rain will initially be
possible over portions of Del Norte and Humboldt Counties
Tuesday night and again Thursday evening. A more substantial
threat of widespread and heavier rainfall is then expected this
weekend, with additional rainfall possible during early to middle
portions of next week.

.DISCUSSION...A large amount of uncertainty exists during the next
seven days with regard to rainfall totals. The large-scale
pattern will feature quasi-zonal upper-level flow and a storm
track that will impact southeastern Alaska, coastal BC, and the
PACNW. NWRN CA will generally be located within the southern
periphery of the active westerlies located to the north. Thus,
precipitation amounts could vary from light if systems take a
more northerly track, to moderate/heavy if a more amplified
southerly track occurs. At this time, light rain is expected with
the passage of weak frontal systems Tuesday night and again
Thursday afternoon and evening...mainly occurring across portions
of Del Norte and northern Humboldt Counties. Heavier rainfall will
then be possible this weekend, though a substantial amount of
spread is evident in multi-model guidance. An active pattern is
forecast to continue during early to middle portions of next week,
but details remain uncertain.

.AVIATION...Coastal terminals have been plagued by spotty low
ceilings and mist overnight, causing a high degree of variability
in flight categories. Expect these fluctuations to continue into
the morning hours before some improvement during the day, however
a persistent large surf will probably support lingering visibility
obscurations due to mist at both KCEC and KACV into the
afternoon. A weak disturbance will approach the coast late this
evening and bring a chance of rain after 06z, particularly at
KCEC. Otherwise, KUKI and other interior airfields should continue
to see VFR conditions and light winds through the TAF period. /CB

.MARINE...A large westerly swell continues to support a Hazardous
Seas Warning as it moves through the coastal waters this morning
at 18 to 20 feet per latest buoy observations. This swell will
gradually subside through the day and allow existing warnings to
eventually be replaced by Small Craft Advisories, which will
continue into Wednesday as the swell remains above 10 feet.
Meanwhile, a passing trough will tighten the pressure gradient and
yield increasing northerly winds during the day on Wednesday. A
few gale force gusts look to be possible north of Cape Mendocino
on Wednesday afternoon, although these would likely be fairly
limited in coverage. The increasing northerlies will generate an
uptick in short period seas, which coupled with the existing swell
will contribute to chaotic seas and raise the possibility of
another round of Hazardous Seas Warnings going into Wednesday
night. At minimum, the increased northerlies and persistent
westerly swell should continue to promote a generally unsettled
marine environment and advisory level conditions into the end of

.FIRE WEATHER...Light rain will be possible over Del Norte and
northern Humboldt Counties Tuesday night, with a second round of
light rain expected Thursday afternoon and evening over
essentially the same location. A greater threat of widespread and
heavier rainfall will be possible this weekend. Otherwise, north-
northeasterly winds will become locally gusty across the ridges of
Lake County Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. Those
winds combined with modest humidity recoveries and a lack of
significant rainfall will aid in an elevated fire weather threat.
