.SYNOPSIS...Pacific high pressure will remain in control through
today, with moderating temperatures and a mix of morning coastal
clouds and sunshine. A cold front will bring cooler weather with
some gusty winds on Saturday, and perhaps a few showers to Del
Norte and northern Humboldt County.

.DISCUSSION...Another day of mild and dry conditions will be in
store for Northwest California today. Morning clouds will mostly
clear out later this morning across the area, with the exception
of a couple spots. The Eel River Valley may be a bit more stubborn
and may not entirely clear out. The Pacific ridge will break down
late tonight and into Saturday as a trough and associated frontal
boundary digs southward. Cloud cover will increase late today
from north to south as the cold front approaches the area, though
areas south of Cape Mendocino will still see mostly sunny skies.
The northern portion of the area will observe some rain with this
passing front, but not much rain is expected. Highest totals will
be in Del Norte, but should still be less than a tenth of an inch.
Cooler air will filter in behind the cold front and bring
afternoon and overnight temperatures down a few degrees starting
on Saturday. Saturday night will be the coldest night, with
temperatures even dropping into the upper 30s along the coast.
Northerly winds will increase behind the front, particularly
across exposed ridges and the usual coastal headlands. At this
time, it doesn't look like we'll need any wind advisories, but
this will need to be monitored by future shifts.
A quiet weather pattern will return late this weekend as high
pressure builds back into the region. Offshore flow will likely
lead to warm, dry, and mostly sunny conditions for the early
portion of the upcoming work week. Another shot of rain will come
late on Tuesday and into Wednesday as another cold front clips the
northern part of the area. Guidance continues to back off on
precipitation associated with the front, so expect little to no

to diverge late next week with the Euro showing a trough
impacting the area and the GFS showing high pressure continuing
across the region.

.AVIATION...Light winds out of the east are expected to switch to
northerly bearings late Friday morning at KCEC and KACV. Visibility
should support VFR with low level clouds around 1500 to 2500 feet
and raising in the afternoon. KCEC could see showers in the
vicinity Friday evening. KUKI flight categories remain at VFR

.MARINE...Moderate northerly winds (15-25kt) with steep seas will
persist through Friday, mainly south of Cape Mendocino. Northerly
winds and steep seas will increase on Saturday throughout as high
pressure builds offshore in the wake of a cold front. Gale force
winds with large steep seas are expected this weekend, especially
south of Cape Mendocino. A gale watch has been hoisted for the
southern outer waters (PZZ475) where confidence is highest. Gale
conditions will also be possible for the other forecast zones, both
inside 10NM and north of Cape Mendocino. By Saturday evening steep
seas are forecast to build to 14 to 17 feet throughout. The
strongest winds will likely shift offshore on Sunday as a thermal
trough builds along the coast. This should result in much lighter
winds nearshore, however seas will most likely remain steep and
hazardous seas on Sunday in the outer fringes of the nearshore
waters.
A northerly surface wind flow pattern will dominate through the
remainder of the forecast period, with brisk winds, generally 10 to
60NM from shore. Steep short periods waves will likely be the main
hazard for the waters inside 10NM. Storms across the north Pacific
will continue to send W-NW swells into NW Cal waters through the end
of next week.
