Relative humidities are increasing this evening with the loss of
daytime heating. Therefore, the Red Flag Warning will be allowed

Key Messages:

1) Critical fire weather conditions today

Thursday night

Fire weather:
Numerous forecast issues on the table for the next week. First and
foremost, critical fire weather conditions are expected today west
of Interstate 35. Grasslands and crops in this area are mostly
cured, and coupled with a strong northwest wind gusting to 45 mph
and afternoon RH values around 25 percent, will result in rapid
fire spread Have issued a Red Flag Warning for this afternoon and
early evening, along and west of a line from Algona, to Fort Dodge
and Atlantic, where the most extreme conditions exist. Elsewhere
across the forecast area, conditions will not be as critical due
to lesser curing of grasslands, but cured crops will still be
very susceptible to rapid fire spread.

Temperatures:
Looking ahead, colder air will overspread the region tonight into
Thursday, and persist for much of the period. The exception will
be a brief temp rebound on Saturday. Widespread frost is expected
Thursday night, with low in the upper 20s to low 30s. Sunday and
Monday look to be the coldest days of the periods, with highs
mainly in the 40s and lows in the 20s to low 30s.

Precipitation:
Cannot completely discount a few sprinkles or a stray shower this
afternoon/tonight with the fropa, but will leave to later shifts
to re-assess for potential low pops. For Friday night/Saturday, a
weak wave will skirt northern Iowa, with potential for some light
rain and perhaps some snowflakes mixed in. Will also carry low
chance pops from Saturday night through Monday, although there is
still considerable model uncertainty in this period.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Wednesday Night)
ISSUED AT 1218 AM CDT Wed Oct 14 2020

The main focus of the 06z TAF issuance continues to be gusty winds
and LLWS. Southerly winds will increase after 11z at the surface
and aloft ahead of a cold front pushing through the Plains. Have
target a window from 11Z-16Z for LLWS. Winds will veer to westerly
and eventually northwest through the afternoon with gusts of 25-30
kts.

No hazardous weather is expected at this time.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

An elevated fire risk will be seen Wednesday afternoon,
especially west of Interstate 35, where the combination of gusty
winds of 30 to 40 mph and relative humidity levels of 20 to 30
percent will lead to high fire danger.

Frost and near freezing temperatures may threaten susceptible
vegetation over southern and east central Iowa Thursday night.
