Sent out a quick update to increase cloud cover with most areas
showing partly to mostly cloudy skies due to thin high clouds.
Toned down wind speeds outside of the Wind Prone areas with a
lee-side trough expected to remain nearly stationary through most
of the day, and eventually pushing southeast this evening. Winds
may pick up a bit this evening, but not very confident in this
scenario due to diurnal winds decoupling from the stronger winds
aloft around sunset.

One quick note about the upcoming storm: Although snowfall may
hold off until Monday morning for many areas south and east of the
Winter Storm Watch, seeing a prolonged period of fog and freezing
drizzle based on the early 12z model data. Will likely add
Freezing Drizzle to the forecast beginning late Sunday evening.

Many forecast challenges with this mornings forecast package. From
strong winds today and tonight to timing of snow and snow
accumulations Sunday night through Monday.

Currently...1036mb surface high pressure system over northwestern
Colorado this morning. Roughly 15mb SLP gradient between Craig and
Casper. Current 850/700mb Craig to Casper gradients at 73/53mtrs
respectively. Getting wind gusts in excess of 60 mph in our wind
prone areas as a result. Upstream on satellite imagery...our
upcoming storm system is making its way into Vancouver BC and
Washington State this morning.

Gradients remain strong today...peaking out at 81/57mtrs around
18Z today. With these high gradients...do think the strong winds
will spill out of the wind prone areas. Decided to add east Platte
and central Laramie County to the High Wind Warnings as well as
northern Carbon County near Muddy Gap. 750 and 800mb winds of
50kts right over Cheyenne at 18Z...so do think we stand a good
chance at tapping into these winds. Should get warm enough today
to break the inversion that is seen on GFS soundings here at
Cheyenne.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday)

Attention turns to the approaching low pressure system. Latest
guidance runs show the low has slowed down roughly 6-12 hours over
last nights model run. GFS and ECMWF both show low closing off
over northwestern Colorado Monday. Longer residence time of snow
over the state looking more likely...so did increase snow totals.

Snow does not end until Wednesday morning now...roughly 24 hours
longer than previous model runs. So we are going to have a fairly
widespread fresh snowpack over most of the CWA. Which sets us up
for the next event likely Wednesday into Thursday. Craig to
Casper height gradients pick up again behind the departing low
system. By Wednesday evening...we are back above 60mtrs at 850 and
700mbs. Could see an event similar to the early December event
where we had ground blizzard conditions here in Cheyenne. Looks
very similar to that event.

Strong winds to continue today across southeast WYoming with
several locations seeing gusts in excess of 60 mph. High Wind
Warnings in effect. Afternoon humidity gets close to critical
across the southern Nebraska Panhandle this afternoon...for near
critical fire weather conditions. These windy conditions expected
to persist through Sunday morning before easing. A low pressure
system will approach the area from the northwest late Sunday with
widespread snow developing across Converse County Sunday late
evening. This snow will spread south and east Monday with moderate
snow and blowing snow across most areas. Look for persistent
mountain snow to continue in the Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges
