Latest radar imagery showing the snow band that set up over
Cheyenne last evening has shifted to the east into the Panhandle.
Latest observations in the Panhandle showing mainly light
snow...though Kimball reporting heavy snow there currently.
Surface analysis showing snow band mainly along a surface front
that lays from Ogallala Nebraska...north to Alliance and then west
to Casper. Forecast challenges today deal with timing on return
of strong winds in the wind prone areas and the potential for
heavy snow in parts of the Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges.
As for today...500mb upper trough moves through as advertised at
18Z that will force the surface front east into central Nebraska.
All snow should come to an end after that time. 700mb winds begin
to shift westerly as upper ridge moves in after 00Z. GFS 700mb
winds begin to increase as ridge axis shifts to the east. 700mb
and 750mb up to 50kts after 06Z tonight. Craig to Casper 850/700mb
height gradients to 71/51 meters by 09Z tonight. Decided on a High
Wind Watch for the wind prone areas of southeast Wyoming at that
time.
.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)

Energy form our next low pressure system currently off the
Washington State coast begins to move into the area Saturday. All
guidance...ECMWF....NAM...GFS and SREF showing snow beginning out
over southern Carbon County after 18Z Saturday. This area is in a
favorable front left quadrant of a 90-100kt jet that is expected
to persist over northern Colorado. Decided to issue a Winter
Storm Watch for the Sierra Madre Range due to this persistent
snow. Getting close to 2 feet of snow over the Sierra Madre Range
through Monday morning. Later shifts may need to add the Snowies
to a winter headline as the event draws closer.
Arctic boundary set to move into the area from the north and
northeast Tuesday night into Wednesday. Do think guidance on
temperatures way too warm with 700mb temperatures falling to -20C
by Wednesday morning. So did shave several degrees off NBM model
for temperatures after this boundary moves into the area. Probably
need to continue this trend as the event draws closer.

Latest surface analysis places the cold front from near KRWL to
south of KLAR. MVFR CIGS in occasional light snow will continue at

Partial clearing is expected later this afternoon and evening. North
to northwest surface winds will prevail, occasionally gusting to 20-
30 kt at KCYS and KSNY this afternoon.

Nebraska Panhandle by mid morning. Pretty nice day as we are in a
transition period. Winds begin to increase again late tonight with

tonight and persisting through Saturday afternoon. More unsettled
Saturday evening through the weekend as persistent moderate to
occasional heavy snow is possible over the Snowy and Sierra Madre
Ranges. Fire weather concerns minimal through the weekend with
cold temperatures and mountain snow.
