Watch, which is in effect from Wednesday morning through late
Wednesday night.

* WHAT...West winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts of 60 to 70 mph

  Interstate 25 corridor from the Colorado border to Glendo.

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Tuesday)
Issued at 323 PM MST Mon Jan 6 2020

High winds remain the main forecast concern heading into tonight
as a shortwave pushes through the CWA early Monday afternoon.
Enhanced subsidence behind the shortwave along with a 60-65 kt jet
at 750 mb will result in high wind potential through Monday
night. CAG-CPR 850 mb HGT gradients are on the rise, peaking at
nearly 90 m by 06z tonight. High Wind Warnings for the SE WY wind
prone areas plus Central Laramie County, Eastern Platte County,
and the Laramie Valley will continue through 8 AM Tuesday. So far,
high winds have remained south of the Bordeaux Wind Gap but 12z
GFS increases 750 mb winds after 03z and local guidance (based off
GFS) suggest over 95 percent chance of hitting criteria tonight.
However, 18z NAM keeps strongest winds slightly farther south than
the GFS. Will need to monitor these zones along with Kimball
County and the Laramie Valley. Strong winds will remain in place
aloft, but big question will be whether these locations will
decouple this evening. Soundings suggest the southern NE Panhandle
will, but a little more uncertain about the Laramie Valley.

Mountain snow for the Snowy and Sierra Madres Ranges continue into
this evening with an additional 1-3 inches possible. Winter Weather
Advisories run through 6 PM Monday. Afterwhich, minimal
precipitation is expected in the short term. A brief ridging pattern
sets up over the CWA for Tuesday with afternoon temperatures
reaching the 40s east of the Laramie Range and 30s west. Looking
towards midweek, windy weather and possibly more mountain snow will
return with the next progressive trough.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Monday)

Wednesday will be the warmest day of the next week as the area is
briefly in the warm sector of a developing surface weather
system. This will allow temperatures to possibly creep up to 50
degrees east of the Laramie Range and into the Panhandle. An upper
level trough will continue to propagate from the Pacific
Northwest during the day Wednesday and a weak shortwave will allow
lee cyclogenesis to occur in Colorado. The surface low will
intensify by Wednesday evening and subsequently the winds will
also increase over the region because of the pressure gradient
tightening. Model guidance shows the Snowy/Sierra Madre Mountain
range seeing additional snowfall accumulation, but that is all.
The weather system will be fairly progressive and quickly move out
of the region. However, it will bring colder air back over the
region with temperatures most likely being 10-15 degrees colder on
Thursday.

An active weather pattern will then continue to occur with another
developing weather system Thursday into Friday over the CWA. A more
impressive trough will develop and deepen aloft, arriving from the
Pacific Northwest, allowing the opportunity for more widespread snow
showers Thursday night and into Friday. This system will need to be
monitored as it has the potential for widespread snowfall
accumulation over the Panhandle, and could lead to possible weather
criteria headlines. Another quick shot of colder air will accompany
this weather regime and likely keep the entire CWA under 30 degree
temperatures for Friday afternoon.

Continual chances for precipitation and cold temperatures look to be
high over the weekend and into the first part of next week. Model
guidance is advertising a widespread snow and wind event Tuesday and
Wednesday of next week, but that is over a week away, and can change
quite a lot in the next week.
