.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will move northeast across the Ohio Valley tonight
and will slow in forward motion through Wednesday. The low will
then move quickly northeast of the area Wednesday night while
rapidly deepening. A trough will extend from the low southwest
across the local area Thursday night followed by a series of
weak troughs Friday and Saturday. High pressure will build east
across the central Great Lakes Sunday and east of the lakes
Monday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Update...Most of the near-term forecast remains valid. However,
adjusted daytime high temperatures for today based on latest
observed trends and used the latest run of SuperBlend model
guidance as a starting point. The warmest high temperatures
today (near 50 degrees) are expected along and southeast of
roughly a Mount Vernon, OH to Meadville, PA line. Still expect
the potential of precip, mainly in the form of rain, to increase
gradually from south to north through this evening. This is in
response to moist isentropic lift aloft increasing ahead of a
low pressure center at/near 850 mb that is expected to track
east-northeastward from southern Indiana toward southwestern
Ohio by the end of today. Of note, the Winter Storm Watch
remains in effect for Lucas and Wood Counties for Wednesday
morning through early Thursday morning. Waiting for the full
suite of 12Z/Tue model guidance to become available before
deciding whether to make any adjustments to our winter weather
headlines.

Previous Discussion...A series of weak upper level shortwave
troughs will move through the area today and tonight. An upper
level ridge will push into the western United States tonight and
will result in amplification of a deep digging upper level
trough over the central portions of the lower 48 states. This
will result in a surface low pressure over Missouri that will
move northeast toward the Ohio Valley. This track is a bit
further south than previous runs. As the upper level trough
becomes negatively tilted by the end of the period, the surface
low will begin to rapidly intensify. This will force Arctic air
to move south into the forecast area in the wake of the surface
low later tonight into tomorrow. Copious amounts of moisture and
ideal upper level support in the form of a potent positive
vorticity maximum will cause a period of snow across the
northwest portion of the forecast area Wednesday into Wednesday
night. Snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are possible in Lucas
and Wood counties with additional accumulations Wednesday
night. Some lake enhancement may play a role in additional
accumulations so this will have to be monitored over time.
Therefore, a winter storm watch has been issued for Lucas and
Wood counties Wednesday through Wednesday night. Rain will be
the primary weather phenomenon across the eastern half of the
area during this forecast period in the warm sector.

Warm air advection will take place ahead of the low
pressure system and will bring one more day of relatively mild
temperatures in the east. Highs in the eastern half of the area
will be in the middle to upper 40s and upper 30s in the west.
Overnight, lows will drop into the lower to middle 30s. For
Wednesday, the Tuesday night lows will likely be the highs for
the day in the west. As the surge of warmer air continues in the
east, temperatures should climb into the lower 40s before
retreating Wednesday night as the strong cold air arrives on the
west side of the low pressure system.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
The models have joined in medium to high agreement for the mid week
storm system to impact the area. We will see a deepening low
pressure system near western Pennyslvania by 00z Thursday (Wednesday
evening). We will be transitioning rain to snow from west to east
over the far eastern zones at this time with all snow for everyone
by mid to late evening. The heaviest snow will be primarily
affecting northwest Ohio moving into north central Ohio during this
timeframe. We will likely see several inches quickly accumulate and
the wind will also be increasing 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35
mph. The center of the storm will be pulling away from the area
later in the night and will be located in up state New York by early
Thursday morning. Synoptic snow will gradually taper off from west
to east during the night. We can expect a general 1 to 3 inches of
snowfall from the storm system southeast of I-71. West of I-71, we
are expecting 2 to 4 inches with the heaviest amounts closer to
northwest Ohio where 5 to 8 inches will be possible. There is where
the Winter Storm Watch is currently in effect but keep in mind there
will be some minor changes to amounts and any alerts over the next
24 hours.

West to northwest winds will ushering in more colder air at the
surface and aloft in the lower atmosphere. A large and well stacked
upper level trough will set up across the Great Lakes region
starting Thursday through the end of the week. The lake effect snow
machine will be developing and it looks like a good setup for the
potential for heavy lake effect snow for the primary Snowbelt areas
and from time to time maybe dipping down into the secondary
Snowbelt. 850 mb temperatures will fall to -15C to -18C range and a
deep flow coming across the western and northern lakes down across
the eastern lakes will help with added moisture for lake effect.
Temperatures will certainly be cold enough with below freezing
temperatures expected for several days with highs in the 20s and
overnight lows in the teens. Wind chills will be near zero at times.
There will likely be additional winter weather alerts needed for the
heavy LES later this week. Stay Tuned!

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The overall flow begins to shift and change Saturday night and the
LES will slowly decrease. High pressure moves in Saturday night and
skies will try to clear out as well. Saturday night may be our
coldest night if we have any snowpack on the ground and skies clear
with lighter winds. Southerly winds will return and increase late on
Sunday with the slow warming trend beginning. The next mid level
wave and front to impact the region will move in by late Sunday
night into Monday. We will see light precip move in with a light
wintry mix possible on the front end of the precip before switching
to all rain as the temperatures warm up.

.AVIATION /18Z Tuesday THROUGH Sunday/...
Widespread ceilings persist over our region as a surface low
drifts east-northeastward along the Ohio Valley. This low was
centered over southeastern Indiana early this afternoon and
should near KPIT by 18Z/Wed. Ceilings should trend MVFR to IFR,
although occasional ceilings that are one category higher or
lower are possible. Periods of widespread precipitation are
expected, especially late this afternoon through 18Z/Wed. Rain
should mix with and then gradually change to snow west of
roughly a KHZY to KMNN line this evening through 18Z/Wed as
colder air wraps around the backside of the aforementioned low.
Farther east, precip should primarily fall as rain through the
TAF period. VSBY should trend in the VFR to IFR range. The
lowest VSBY is expected in steadier precip, especially when
accompanied by mist.

.OUTLOOK...Non-VFR likely through Wednesday in widespread rain
and/or snow. On Thursday through Sunday, non-VFR is possible,
especially in northeast OH and northwest PA, due to lake effect
snow.

.MARINE...
A developing low pressure system over the Ohio Valley will cause
northeasterly winds to increase today 15 to 20 knots and waves to
increase 3 to 7 feet. Small Craft Advisories will start up later
this morning and last through much of the week with strong gusty
winds and high waves expected. We will continue to monitor any
lakeshore flooding through for the wester basin through mid week
with the northeasterly flow. Also there will be a concern for
lakeshore erosion with several days of onshore flow and higher wave
action. The low pressure system will begin to move and deepen on
Wednesday with the center of the low near western Pennsylvania by
Wednesday evening. Northerly winds will increase on the lake 20 to
30 knots with gusts up to 40 knots possible. Winds will shift to
westerly to northwest by Thursday 20 to 30 knots. There may be some
potential for some Gales or winds up to 35 knots on Thursday with
the strong low pressure system moving away from the eastern lakes.
We will need to watch for this potential as well. Gusty west to
northwest winds 15 to 25 knots will continue over Lake Erie through
the end of the week as well as higher waves.

effect snow is expected to continue into the weekend. There is a
