.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure over Quebec will continue to move eastward allowing
a strong cold front to move into the region this evening. The
front should sweep across northern Ohio during the evening
reaching northwest Pennsylvania around midnight. High pressure
will return to the area by Tuesday morning then drift east on
Wednesday as low pressure develops near the upper Great Lakes.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Cloud cover remains a difficult forecast for today as we see a
decent low level jet get going ahead of a cold front that will
move into the region this evening. Gusty southeast to south
winds are expected through the afternoon. Downslope enhanced
wind gusts near Erie this evening should be around 40 mph. We
will need to monitor closely for a wind advisory. Highs this
afternoon are expected to range from the mid 60's across inland
NW PA to the mid to upper 70's across the southwestern CWA.
A line of showers and thunderstorms will move into NW OH during
the evening hours and sweep quickly eastward. believe the
instability backs off quickly with sunset so thunder chances
will decrease as the front progresses eastward. Strong pressure
rises in the wake of the front could become an issue across NW
Ohio and maybe into the central CWA through midnight. Gusts of
40 to 45 mph will be possible. Lows tonight twill be cooler
with mid 40's west. Upper 40's to mid 50's will be common east.
High pressure quickly builds across the region in the wake of
the cold front tonight. This should be enough to keep the region
dry through the day. We may see some late day cloud cover across
the northeast portion of the CWA as additional jet energy moves
through the upper level trough that is over the area. It will
be cooler on Tuesday but will be near or slightly above seasonal
averages. Highs should range from the lower 60's across inland
NW PA to around 70 across NW OH.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
A shortwave trough and associated surface cold front press eastward
across our CWA Tuesday night. Limited moisture should result in a
dry cold frontal passage. Low temperatures should mainly reach the
40's. Zonal flow aloft Wednesday becomes southwesterly Wednesday
night as a deepening longwave trough approaches from the Upper
Midwest. At the surface, a high pressure ridge builds eastward
Wednesday and then begins to slowly exit our CWA to the east
Wednesday night as fair weather persists. Wednesday's highs should
reach the 60's to lower 70's and be followed by lows in the upper
40's to upper 50's Wednesday night.
The longwave trough begins to overspread the eastern Great Lakes and
Ohio Valley Thursday and Thursday night. At the surface, another
cold front should sweep eastward across our CWA Thursday and be
accompanied by rain showers. Highs should reach the 60's. Drier
weather is expected Thursday night as another surface high pressure
ridge builds from the central Great Plains. However, lake effect
rain showers should stream generally eastward from Lake Erie and
affect our snowbelt counties as cold air deepens. Low temperatures
should reach the mid 30's to mid 40's, with the warmest readings
along the Lake Erie shore. A few wet snowflakes may mix with the
lake effect rain inland from Lake Erie.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The longwave trough should dig eastward across our CWA Friday
through Friday night and should be followed by a building shortwave
high pressure ridge Saturday into Saturday night. Lake effect rain
showers are expected to persist east and northeast of Lake Erie as
the mean steering flow of cold air should vary between westerly and
southwesterly. Drier weather is expected outside the lake effect
precip. High temperatures are forecast to reach only the upper 40's
to mid 50's Friday and Saturday. Lows should reach the lower 30's to
lower 40's Friday night and Saturday night. Thus, the lake effect
rain may mix with or change to wet snow, inland from the lake,
Friday night and Saturday night. By daybreak Sunday, lake effect
precip should cease as warm air advection occurs ahead of a
shortwave trough that should traverse our region from west to east
through the day. Scattered rain showers may accompany this
disturbance. Highs should reach the 50's.

.AVIATION /12Z Monday THROUGH Friday/...
Portions of NW OH and the mid Ohio region will continue to see
MVFR, patchy IFR, conditions through mid morning. Beyond mid
morning it appears all locations should be VFR into the afternoon.
Showers, isolated/scattered thunderstorms arrive this evening
across NW OH and then spread east through the evening. Thunder
chances decrease as the cold front moves eastward. MVFR ceilings
will be likely with the showers and for a brief period in the
wake of the front. Conditions improve quickly in the wake of the
front.
Southeast to south winds will be gusty today. Gusts 25 to 30
knots will be common during the afternoon. Strongest winds will
be near KERI with 35 to 40 knots possible late this afternoon
into the evening. As winds shift to the west in the wake of the
front there may be another couple hour period of strong winds
gusts. Gusts may approach 40 knots. Best locations for these
gusts will be across NW OH and along the lakeshore. Winds
decrease overnight.
Outlook...Non-VFR possible in showers Wednesday night through
Friday.

.MARINE...
Relatively-quiet marine conditions are expected through this early
evening as a high pressure ridge exits Lake Erie to the northeast. A
warm front should sweep northeastward across Lake Erie this evening
and overnight tonight, causing enhanced southeasterly surface winds
to shift to southwesterly. These southwesterly surface winds should
quickly veer to westerly as a cold front pushes eastward over the
lake late this evening through the predawn hours of Tuesday morning.
These enhanced winds are expected to be as strong as 20 to 30 knots
and waves should be as large as 3 to 6 feet. A Small Craft Advisory
will be issued for this upcoming event. Marine conditions should
improve gradually on Tuesday as a high pressure ridge builds
eastward. Additional rounds of unsettled marine conditions are
expected Tuesday night through Thursday because of two more cold
frontal passages from west to east. A general improvement in
marine weather should occur Thursday night into Friday in
association with another ridge building from the west.
