.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will track out of the Central Plains across the
lower Great Lakes region late today. Strong high pressure will
build in from the north on Thursday and persist through Friday.
Another low pressure developing in the central United States
will impact the area this weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Have removed a few counties from the Dense Fog Advisory as
visibilities have improved over the last couple hours. Patchy
fog is still expected across the area, but expected to improve
by mid morning. The rest of the forecast remains unchanged.

Weak low pressure developing in the central Plains will track
across the lower Great Lakes region this evening. Models suggest
this will drag an occluded front across the area. This will
cause temperatures to be lower than previously anticipated with
highs in the upper 40s and lows overnight in the low 30s, which
is still above average for this time of year. Rain showers are
expected to move through the area along the frontal boundary. As
this system progresses eastward into New England, high pressure
will build in over the area. This will allow winds to shift
from south-southeasterly to westerly at 15 to 20 knots, with
gusts near 30 knots into Thursday evening. The shift in wind
direction will also usher in much colder temperatures across the
area which will allow for lake effect snow showers to begin in
snowbelt areas around 06 UTC Thursday. Transition from rain to
snow and warmer temperatures throughout the day will delay the
onset of accumulations. Snowfall accumulations are expected to
be near 1 inch through 12 UTC Thursday , especially in higher
elevations of PA.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Surface trough will relax across the eastern Great Lakes on Thursday
night as high pressure builds in from the northwest. Low level flow
will gradually veer to more northerly with deeper moisture becoming
increasingly limited across region. The NAM continues to highlight a
region downwind of Lake Huron where a band of lake effect snow may
be ongoing, possibly shifting westward with time from NW PA into far
NE Ohio. Expanded pops westward but kept accumulations limited to an
inch or two Thursday night before moisture depth decreases
sufficiently for any lingering snow to taper off to just flurries by
Friday morning. It does look like we may hold onto low level clouds
with moisture trapped beneath the building surface high until
finally scattering out late in the day. Friday will be the dry
period with temperatures just a couple degrees below normal.

By later Friday we will be turning our attention to the next upper
level trough that will take on a slight negative tilt as it lifts
out of the Plains towards the Great Lakes Region Friday night
through Saturday. Overrunning precipitation will develop Friday
night as surface low pressure tracks out of the Plains towards Lake
Michigan. Precipitation is expected to begin in all areas as snow,
transitioning to rain as the warm front lifts north across the area
on Saturday. There is a brief window where freezing rain may be a
possibility during this transition where surface temperatures are
still at or below freezing on Saturday morning. The impact from the
freezing rain is expected to be limited as it will fall on a fresh
coating of snow, followed by temperatures warming well above
freezing into the upper 30s to mid 40s on Saturday. At this time,
snowfall amounts look to be in the 1-3" inch range across the area
late Friday night into Saturday morning.

As the system continues to the northeast on Saturday night, a strong
cold front will be pulled east across the area behind it. Winds look
fairly strong with the cold front with a tight pressure gradient and
post frontal speeds of 40-45 knots at 925mb. Increased winds in the
forecast with gusts of at least 35 mph with the frontal passage but
higher winds may be possible.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A return to more seasonal conditions will follow behind the cold
front on Saturday night. Lake effect will ramp up behind the cold
front Saturday night into Sunday. Current trajectory suggests a
window of westerly flow is possible across Lake Erie which could
provide a window of decent snowfall in the primary snowbelt, and
especially locations closer to the lake. By Sunday night models
start to struggle with the evolution of the upper level trough. We
may see a transition to more northwesterly flow but confidence
decreases in mesoscale details at that point which will impact lake
effect snow potential. Confidence is high in below normal
temperatures through at least Tuesday as the upper trough remains
along the East Coast before moving offshore by midweek.

.AVIATION /12Z Wednesday THROUGH Sunday/...
A weak cold front associated with a low pressure north of the
Great Lakes will move across the area tonight. Ahead of the
front, low level moisture is being trapped due to high pressure
aloft. That coupled with calm winds will result in IFR
conditions due to reduced visibility related to fog for the
western TAF sites and Mansfield. Fog is expected to lift by
mid morning increasing visibility to VFR. MVFR ceilings will
likely persist overnight for the remainder TAF sites in the
eastern portion of the area. Another low pressure system will
move across the area on Wednesday afternoon with showers
developing. Conditions are expected to remain MVFR with these
showers.

Currents winds are primarily southwesterly but will begin to
shift to more westerly with the frontal passage. Wind speed will
be calm overnight. After the passage of the second low pressure
system, stronger southwest to westerly winds will build in with
potential wind gusts of 20 to 25 knots possible.

.OUTLOOK...Non-VFR possible Wednesday night as rain changes over
to snow showers. Non-VFR continues across NE OH/NW PA into
Thursday night with some lake effect snow. Widespread non-VFR
returns over the weekend with rain and snow.

.MARINE...
Low pressure tracking out of the Plains will move northeast across
Lake Erie tonight, pulling a cold front east across the lake behind
it. Winds will abruptly increase to 25-30 knots on the back side of
the system overnight and remain high through the day on Thursday. A
Small Craft Advisory will likely be needed for all nearshore waters
for tonight through Thursday Night.

High pressure will build east across the region on Friday with light
winds veering from north to northeast. Another stronger low pressure
system will track out of the Plains, crossing the Central Great
Lakes on Saturday. This system will pull a strong cold front across
Lake Erie on Saturday night with winds possibly approaching gale
force. West to northwest winds of 20-30 knots will continue into
Sunday night before finally starting to decrease.

of the snowbelt.

Another round of snow is expected Friday night into Saturday ahead of
a warm front that will lift north across the region. Widespread
light snow of 1 to 4 inches can be expected before transitioning to
rain. This will be followed by windy conditions on Saturday night as
a cold front moves east across the area. Lake effect snow will resume
from Saturday night into Monday across the snowbelt region. Snow may
be moderate to heavy at times, especially near the lakeshore. Please
