High pressure over Ohio will drift east overnight as a clipper
system moves into Ontario. This clipper will remain to our
north as it reaches quebec Tuesday night. A trailing cold front
however will drop southeast across the Great Lakes bringing a
brief shot of colder air to the region mid week. High pressure
will build back in for late Wednesday and Wednesday night. A
warm front will follow on Thursday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
The near term forecast remains on track with passing cirrus
overhead. Main changes with this update were to the Tuesday
Night/Wednesday forecast. After a look at the new 00Z NAM, with
support from the 12Z models, increased the spatial coverage of
snow showers and raised pops with the passage of the cold front
across northern Ohio. Model soundings are showing steep lapse
rates through nearly 8000 feet at Cleveland which reaches the
top of the dendritic growth zone and will likely produce a
quick coating of snow during the morning commute. Winds will
also be blustery during this time with poor visibility and
squalls possible.

Previous Discussion...
High pressure and dry stable air was across the region this
afternoon. The high will move east to the Mid-Atlantic region
overnight. This will allow for a modest increase in mid and
high level moisture overnight as low pressure moves from Ontario
into Quebec. Another low will move ene across Tennessee to the
VA coast by 12Z but presently thinking all moisture associated
with this system remains out of our area. The northern low
however will send a trough southeast across the lakes which
should move into the area Tuesday afternoon. The trough will be
followed quickly by a rather strong cold front. Have placed
slight chance and low chance pops across the region late Tuesday
and Tuesday night as this trough moves east across the area.
After midnight into 12Z Wednesday have ramped up pops Towards
morning wednesday have increased pops through the likely
category and into categorical as cold air deepens, lift
increases and multiple short waves drop across the lake in
northwest flow. Have went with roughly 2 inches of snow
overnight from far northeast Ohio into southern Crawford county,
and up to 4-5 inches inland Erie and northern Crawford counties
by 12Z Wednesday. "Storm" total snow, which would include
Wednesday, roughly 4 to 6 in the higher elevations. Highs
Tuesday around 40.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
An upper level trough will move east of the area Wednesday
allowing an upper level ridge to build east across the region.
A reinforcing cold front will move southeast across the local
area Wednesday morning and usher in colder air in northwest
flow. This will set the stage for temperatures remaining nearly
steady or slowly fall through the afternoon Wednesday. Lake
effect will develop Tuesday night and continue into Wednesday.
The inversion will start out around 15,000 feet Tuesday night
and will quickly descend Wednesday but flow should become well
aligned through the day with moderate instability by afternoon.
Otherwise, rest of the forecast area should remain dry as high
pressure begins to build into the region. Fair weather will
last through Thursday morning under the influence of the high
pressure. That will be short lived as the next potent system
will begin to affect the local area Thursday afternoon. A
positively tilted trough will move east toward the Central
Plains states Friday causing a series of low pressure systems to
move into the western Gulf of Mexico and lift northeast toward
the area. A strong conveyor belt of warm moist air will stream
north toward the local area and will likely bring copious
amounts of rainfall to the local area by Friday and will
continue into Saturday. The warm air advection will cause
temperatures to recover from afternoon temperatures in the 20s
Wednesday back to the 50s for Friday.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The upper level trough expected to move toward the local area
will become split as fast moving jet maximum aloft shears off
the northern half of the trough leaving behind a shortwave
trough to the southwest of the forecast area by Saturday
evening. This shortwave will be rather potent forcing some
fairly strong cyclogenesis to occur well southwest of the
forecast area. The surface low will deepen as it moves northeast
toward the area Saturday and Saturday night. Another round of
copious amounts of moisture will move north into the local area
and there appears to be a threat for significant rainfall that
will occur from Friday into early Sunday morning. Expected
rainfall amounts have the potential to cause some widespread
flooding issues and will have to closely monitored for timing
and areal extent over the next few days. Once low pressure
system moves northeast of the area, an upper level ridge will
build east across the local area resulting in a ridge of high
pressure at the surface of the region Sunday night. Drier air
will also follow the low bringing an end to the precipitation
threat. No real strong push of cold air will follow the low
pressure system during this forecast period.

.AVIATION /06Z Tuesday THROUGH Saturday/...
VFR conditions exist across all TAF sites tonight and are
expected throughout much, if not all of the TAF period with the
exception of CLE. A short wave trough will swing through the
area near the end of the TAF period, with snow showers possible
between 6-12Z Wednesday morning. Have included VCSH for now at
CLE with MVFR ceilings and visibilites possible with the snow
showers.

Winds are currently out of the south/southwest 5-10 knots around
the area tonight. Winds will increase to 10-15 knots out of the
southwest, turning west/northwest by Wednesday morning as the
trough approaches. As the trough makes its way across the area,
wind gusts could reach up to 30-35 knots out of the
west/northwest early Wednesday morning through the early
afternoon.

.OUTLOOK...Non-VFR possible through Wednesday afternoon over NE
OH/NW PA with snow. Widespread non-VFR likely Thursday night
through Saturday.

.MARINE...
Small craft advisories remain in effect for the western basin
until 10 PM this evening and the rest of the lake shore until 10
AM Tuesday morning. Winds will continue to diminish overnight
into tomorrow morning. Winds will then begin to increase from
the northwest Tuesday night as a cold front moves southeast
across the lake Wednesday morning. Winds will likely reach 30
knots again Wednesday morning but quickly diminish in the
afternoon and Wednesday night to light and variable. A series of
low pressures will move northeast toward the local area causing
warm air advection into the area in southwest flow Friday and
Saturday and then a shift to north northeast by Saturday night.
