* At 13.0 feet...Flood waters inundate basements of property adjecent
to the river near Pemberville. The parking lot of the downtown
business district in Pemberville is flooded. Backwater from the ditch
east of Wayne Rd inundates South River Road. West of Wayne Road, both
North and South River Roads are inundated with feet of water.
In Woodville, Trail Marker Park and adjacent low lying roads of Cherry
Street and Erie Street are inundated. Backwater from the ditch on State
Route 105 west of State Route 582 covers the road.

.SYNOPSIS...
As low pressure in the Upper Great Lakes moves north towards
Hudson Bay, it will drag a cold front southeast across the lower Great
Lakes later today. This cold front will stall just west of the
area as a stronger low pressure system develops in the Southern
Plains tonight. This low will move northeastward along the
frontal boundary, reaching the Ohio Valley by Saturday
night pulling a cold front east across east across the area.
High pressure arrives by Saturday night into Monday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Some minor adjustments to pops and temperatures, but the overall
trend of the forecast is on track. Categorical pops will be the
norm for the area for most of the day. Temps still expected to
slowly rise into the 50s.
Original Discussion...
Light to moderate rain has overspread the area overnight and
continues across the area this morning with the highest totals
up to a half inch so far near Findlay, OH. Hi-res models have
been picking up on an axis of heavy rain extending from the
Missouri Valley northeastwards towards NE OH. This axis of rain
is evident via regional radar observations and water vapor
channels/air mass RGB product which shows a narrow plume of
moisture, likely associated with an atmospheric river
originating from the Gulf of Mexico. PWATS surpassing 1 inch are
already found in south-central Indiana, and this surge of
moisture is expected to continue northeastwards into our area
through today and tomorrow. Additional rainfall amounts of half
an inch up to an inch are possible across the area through the
afternoon. Rainfall today will saturate soils and some will run
off with rises beginning on areas rivers. With that said, most
areas are expected to be able to handle this first round of rain
today with the Flood Watch still going into effect at 7 PM
tonight.
This axis of rain is expected to lift northwards by the late
afternoon/early evening as a stronger low develops in the
Southern Plains tonight, with many areas experiencing a break in
precipitation overnight. A second push of moisture and thus
rain chances arrive across the area by late Saturday morning as
the low moves northeastward along the stalled boundary. There is
still some uncertainty between global and mesoscale models on
the axis of heavy rain Saturday, but highest amounts are
expected to be focused in the Flood Watch area where storm total
rainfall of 2 to 3 inches is likely. Confidence continues to
increase in many rivers in NW Ohio reaching flood stage, with
several reaching Moderate Flood and can not rule out 1 or 2
approaching or surpassing Major Flood levels if the higher end
rainfall occurs. In addition, overland flooding may develop,
especially with higher rates on Saturday.
As the low deepens and approaches the area Saturday, a strong
low level jet will develop across the Ohio Valley in excess of
70 knots. The cold front will slowly push eastwards into the
area on Saturday and by this time, much of the area will have
been in the warm sector for much of the day. Mesoscale models
have been hinting at elevated CAPE Saturday afternoon and
evening, especially between the preferred lightning growth zones
(-10 to -20C), so have added thunder chances starting early
Saturday afternoon through the period.
We have a fairly good shot at breaking record high temperatures
at all of our climate sites Saturday as WAA remains strong
across the area. Highs will reach the mid to upper 60s,
especially across the southeast tier of the area. Some low 70s
in the extreme southern counties cannot be ruled out. Given the
warm temperatures, mixing depths may overachieve Saturday
afternoon with the potential to mix into higher winds aloft.
Winds in southern areas could gust as high as 30-40 mph in the
warm sector. For today, highs will be more subdued, but still
15 to 20 degrees above average in the low to mid 50s. Lows
tonight will not vary much from the daytime highs as WAA
increases from the south.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
The forecast for Saturday night continues to be the most intriguing
of the short term forecast period. A deepening low pressure system
over Indiana will extend a warm front across the forecast area
Saturday afternoon/evening, leaving much of the area in the warm
sector of the low as it traverses the area on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, a shortwave trough will move overhead bringing strong jet
energy over the region with at least 80 kts at 500 mb and at least
50 kts at 850 mb out of the southwest. This jet energy will support
a fairly sheared environment with up to 50 kts of 0 to 6 km bulk
shear over the region ahead of the low. Therefore, will have a
thunder mention for much of the forecast area for Saturday night.
Regardless of thunder in the region, the area remains socked in with
rain, which may be efficient at times on Saturday evening with a
heavier thunderstorm. Therefore, will continue the flood watch into
Saturday evening for now. As for a severe threat, the limiting
factor will be instability as widespread rain will limit CAPE values
over the region, but given a high shear, low CAPE environment,
cannot rule out a more robust storm bringing down some of the 50 kt
low level jet on Saturday night. Something to stay tuned about...
The low pressure system and its associated cold front clear out
quickly on Sunday as an upper ridge builds overhead. Have some PoPs
lingering to the east for early Sunday, which is primarily residual
lake enhanced rain/snow showers in NW PA. A ridge of high pressure
extends into the Great Lakes region from the north on Sunday night
into Monday, keeping the forecast area dry. Temperatures are going
to trend down through the period, but still remain above normal with
highs in the 40s and lows near or slightly below freezing expected
each day.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
High pressure will start being pushed out of the region on Tuesday
as the forecast area will again be in a familiar setting between two
systems. Low pressure will move from the Central Plains into the
Northwest Great Lakes region and another low will form over the
northern Gulf of Mexico and move northeast off the Mid-Atlantic
coast by Wednesday morning. With that, hard to give the forecast
more than a 30 PoP at this time, as this trend this winter has
generally allowed for the area to be dry or have underperforming
precipitation. Beyond Wednesday, have a fairly generic forecast as
all of the guidance shows a disturbance of some sort entering the
Great Lakes region. With that, have chance PoPs over the region with
a continued slightly above normal temperature forecast at this
time.

.AVIATION /12Z Friday THROUGH Tuesday/...
Mostly VFR conditions across the area this morning with the
exception of MVFR ceilings and visbys at TOL. An axis of
widespread MVFR and IFR was found just northwest of TOL, and
these conditions are expected to trickle in across the area by
the afternoon. Rain continues to fall across the area, but it
seems to be fairly light in nature and isn't causing much
trouble in ways of ceilings or visbys.
Southerly winds 10-15 knots continue across the area this
morning with spotty gusts of 20-25 knots. Have kept mention of
LLWS through the morning as winds 2000 feet above the surface
continue to be strong at 45-55 knots. These strong upper level
winds will begin to move out of the area by this afternoon so
have removed LLWS during this timeframe. However, strong low
level winds will return by early tomorrow morning so have added
LLWS back in as a strong upper level system approaches the area.
.OUTLOOK...Widespread non-VFR likely through Sunday morning.
Non-VFR possible in scattered rain showers Tuesday afternoon.

.MARINE...
Have cancelled the Small Craft Advisory for the nearshore waters of
Pennsylvania as downsloping winds are dropping off quickly and have
fallen below 20 knots. The downward trend will continue today as the
gradient relaxes with low pressure north of Lake Superior tracking
northeast into Quebec.
This stalled frontal boundary will linger across the Central Great
Lakes today as another low pressure system tracks out of the
southern Plains on Saturday. This system will occlude as it reaches
far NW Ohio with a cold front wrapping east across Lake Erie late
Saturday night. Southwest winds will rapidly increase late Saturday
night to 35-40 knot gales persisting into Sunday morning. Have
issued a Gale Watch from late Saturday night into Sunday afternoon.
Waves on the east end of Lake Erie could reach 9 to 13 feet. The
strong southwest winds may also lead to a rapid drop in water level
on the western basin and a Low Water Advisory may be needed on
Sunday.
Conditions will improve quickly heading into Sunday night as low
pressure departs to New England and high pressure builds over the
Central Great Lakes. Southeasterly winds can be expected to start
next week ahead of the next weaker low pressure system moving into
the Upper Midwest on Tuesday.
