.SYNOPSIS...
An occluded front crosses the area early today. High pressure
will build this afternoon. Low pressure will approach from the
southwest tonight and cross the Gulf of Maine Thursday. Arctic
high pressure will build in Friday and Saturday followed by
another potential storm for Saturday night and Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
1130 am update...Adjustments were made to keeping a mention for
snow showers into the mid afternoon as sfc/upper level trof was
moving across the region. The 12z UA showed this trof w/a 45-50
kt jetstreak from 850-700 mbs, triggering some snow showers per
obs and radar. Additional snow accumulations will be less than a
1/2 of an inch. Temps were adjusted to fit the latest
conditions. Weak high pres ridge from the mid section of the US
to move quickly across the New England region by the evening.
Ridge is fairly flat, so clearing will be brief as the next
system apchs later tonight from the Great Lakes region.
Previous Discussion...
The high pressure crests over the area this evening and some
radiational cooling will occur this evening before high clouds
increase ahead of the next weather system. Single digit lows are
forecast for the Saint John Valley, but will be warmer to the
south. By late tonight, low pressure will be crossing southern
Vermont en route to the Gulf of Maine as the LF exit region to a
powerful upper jet intersects. Rapid deepening follows and
Atlantic moisture starts being drawn into this previously dry
clipper system. Precip will start late tonight in the southwest
portion of the forecast area with 1 to 2 inches expected by
daybreak for locations such as Greenville, Dover- Foxcroft and
Bangor...and snow will be occurring for the morning commute for
most of the area except Aroostook County. A Winter Weather
Advisory has been issued for this storm in the southern half of
the forecast area.

fm 12z Thu-00z Fri along the immediate coast. Hv opted to issue
a Winter Wx Advisory along and south of a Moosehead Lake-
Danforth line for snow totals ranging from 3-6 inches drg the
pd. Cannot rule out locally higher amnts as possible TROWAL
dvlps.
Strong pressure gradient is expected as low tracks twd the
Maritimes Thu night with 1045mb high building twd the Great Lks.
This wl result in winds gusting upwards of 30-35kts on Friday
and patchy blowing snow drg the day.
Arctic air wl mv into the area Thu night with high temps in the
low single digits acrs the far north and possibly not even
making it abv 0 in the St. John Vly. Low teens are expected
further south and this wl result in wind chill values in the
-20s throughout the day.
Ridge axis wl be building into the CWA fm the west Fri night
with skies clrng and low temperatures dropping into the negative
teens acrs the north. If pressure gradient rmns up wind chills

High pressure builds east on Saturday as next system heads east
thru the Great Lakes drg the day. All 00z guidance indicates sfc
low along the Downeast coast by 12z Sun with snow expected ovr
most of the region, though mixing may occur over Downeast
areas. Wrap-around moisture expected into early next week with
isold snow showers expected acrs nrn areas Mon morning. Yet
another round of cold temperatures is expected early next week.

.AVIATION /18Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
NEAR TERM: IFR vis in snow will end early this morning. There is
a slight chance of freezing drizzle around BGR around daybreak.
IFR cigs are expected towards BHB, BGR and Machias into mid
morning, followed by VFR conditions. North of GNR and HUL, the
IFR vis in snow will be replaced by MVFR cigs that will last
until later this afternoon or possibly into the evening. Snow
returns late tonight with IFR vis...mostly affecting sites such
as GNR, BGR and BHB by daybreak Thursday.
