.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will lift across the area tonight bring an
increasing risk for showers and thunderstorms. A cold front
pushing through the area Saturday will bring additional showers
and thunderstorms, before cooler and drier air settles across
the region Sunday and into early next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
Just a few residual showers left across the western Southern
Tier early this afternoon. Hi-res models showing a relative
lull in precipitation through at least late afternoon before
scattered showers and isolated storms develop into western New
York this evening as the stationary front currently draped
along the New York/Pennsylvania line begins to lift north as a
warm front.

Moisture will continue to increase north of the warm front and
combined with the forcing from the front, the coverage of
showers/storms will increase from southwest to northeast through
the night. Severe threat is not zero, but looks limited with
only marginal instability and expect the convection to be
elevated. Heavy rainfall may be more of a concern, especially if
we get any cell training along the warm frontal segment.

Saturday, surface cold frontal passage is expected between 12z and
18z. Likely see a line of convection along the cold front. Frontal
timing, before prime heating will limit severe threat, but
given available shear support could get some stronger wind gusts
along any organized segments, along with brief heavy rainfall.

Windier conditions setting up just ahead and then behind the cold
frontal passage Saturday. BUFKIT momentum transfer scheme
suggesting wind gusts could be as high as 40 mph downwind of the
lakes.

Colder air filtering into the region will drop 850 mb
temperatures to near +7c by Saturday night. Column is drying
enough to limit the response off the lakes to clouds and
some showers.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Decreasing moisture will continue to weaken any lake response
that is still present. There will be a chance of showers
downwind of the lakes to start the day Sunday, but will taper
off before afternoon. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid 60s to
near 70, and in the low 60s for the Tug Hill.

High pressure will continue to provide dry conditions Sunday
night through Monday night.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
There will be increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms
starting Tuesday morning, but model guidance is still very much
in disagreement as far as timing of showers is concerned on
Tuesday. Some better agreement for showers starting Wednesday as
an area of low pressure tracks north of the region and a cold
front crosses the Western and North Central NY area.

Temperatures will warm from day to day starting out in the upper 60s
to mid 70s on Monday and warming to the mid 70s to low 80s on
Wednesday and Thursday.

.AVIATION /19Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
MVFR/IFR conditions will continue across the Southern Tier (KJHW)
through much of the TAF period, while low end VFR ceilings should
prevail for the rest of the area through this evening.

Coverage of showers and embedded thunderstorms will expand from
southwest to northeast through the evening into tonight with an
advancing warm front, with widespread MVFR/IFR conditions
expected for the overnight period.

Cold frontal boundary moves through between 12z-18z Saturday with a
line of possibly gusty convection with periodic IFR/MVFR.

Outlook...

Sunday and Monday...VFR.
Tuesday...Restrictions possible with a chance for showers.
Wednesday...Restriction possible with a chance of showers and
thunderstorms.

Tranquil conditions will exist on both lakes through this evening.

Southwesterly winds will freshen tonight into Saturday ahead of an
approaching cold front that will cross the lakes Saturday. This
will bring marginal Small Craft Advisory conditions to Lake
Erie and the western end of lake Ontario later tonight.

Showers and thunderstorms will gradually spread northeast
across both lakes for the better part of tonight and Saturday.
Some of the storms could bring gusty winds and locally higher
waves.

Behind the cold front, winds will veer to west then northwest
and remain elevated through the first part of Sunday. This will
bring solid Small Craft Advisory conditions to both Lake Ontario
and Lake Erie.

High pressure will bring lighter winds for Sunday night and
Monday.
