.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will approach from the Ohio valley late today and
tonight. This will lead to some showers and possibly a thunderstorm
or two with the most widespread coverage being over the far western
counties. While there will be a few showers around on Sunday...the
bulk of the day will be dry. There will also be the chance for a few
strong thunderstorms from the east of the Genesee valley.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Retreating high pressure will provide fair dry weather for the bulk
of the region this afternoon. The exception will be across the far
western counties where showers will steadily creep in ahead of a
slow moving warm front.

The warm front will support an increasing coverage of showers and
possible thunderstorms tonight...esp over the western counties.

Organized sfc low tracks west of the region Sunday...most areas
within associated warm sector. While bulk of day dry...showers and
storms possible. Strong storms possible from Finger Lakes region
east.

Showers taper off Sunday night in wake of shortwave.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Inverted trough to support scattered showers and possibly a
thunderstorm Monday and Monday night.

More unsettled on Tuesday with tropical system passing by to our
east. Widespread showers for our forecast area will be primarily
driven by an incoming mid latitude trough rather than the tropical
system, with the primary push of tropical moisture forecast to
remain in Eastern NY and New England. The greatest chance of rain
Tuesday will be found across eastern portions of our area closer to
the tropical moisture plume.

Showers taper off from west to east Tuesday night and Wednesday
morning following the passage of a cold front and associated mid
level trough. The trough will deliver the coolest airmass we have
seen in quite some time, with 850MB temps possibly dropping below
10C. This will support highs in the low to mid 70s on Wednesday.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
A much cooler airmass will build into the eastern Great Lakes
Wednesday night and linger through Thursday. The lakes are
exceptionally warm, and this airmass would be cool enough to support
some lake response. The synoptic pattern does not appear supportive
however, with a rapidly drying column as high pressure builds into
the eastern Great Lakes. With this in mind kept the forecast dry
Wednesday night with some modest lake effect clouds east of the
lakes. Dry weather continues Thursday with high pressure centered
over the Great Lakes. Temperatures will be quite cool Wednesday
night, with lows in the 50s inland from the immediate lakeshores. A
few readings in the upper 40s are possible across the Southern Tier
valleys.

The airmass will then warm steadily Thursday through next weekend as
heights rise and warm advection increases. Temperatures will still
be in the 70s Thursday, then warm into the mid 80s for highs by the
time we get to next Saturday.

.AVIATION /20Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
VFR conditions this afternoon will continue into tonight...although
showers over the southwest corner of the state will push north and
increase in coverage. The more widespread showers and possible
thunderstorms later tonight could lead to some MVFR cigs...esp
across the Southern Tier.

While VFR conditions will prevail on Sunday...there will be the risk
for some thunderstorms. The convection will be most likely for sites
east of the Genesee Valley.

Outlook...

Sunday night...MVFR, with more widespread IFR possible with lowering
ceilings.
Monday and Tuesday...MVFR/VFR with a chance of showers and
thunderstorms.
Wednesday and Thursday...VFR.

.MARINE...
High pressure over the region today will keep winds to a light
to gentle breeze. Showers and thunderstorms will increase from
the southwest tonight as a warm front moves northward. This
will bring increasing southwesterly flow with it by Sunday as
small craft conditions become likely on Lake Erie by that time.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Winds increasing as low pressure tracks to our west may cause
minor lakeshore flooding along Lake Erie Sunday afternoon and
evening. Still some uncertainty in wind speed and direction
which will have a big impact on lake levels, but there is a risk
for Lake Erie to rise above 6 feet at the Buffalo gauge.

Increasing wave action Sunday afternoon through Sunday night
may also cause strong currents and dangerous swimming
conditions on Lake Erie.
