.SYNOPSIS...
Any lingering snow showers will end this morning, then most of
the weekend will be dry with somewhat warmer temperatures Sunday
before the passage of a cold front brings a chance of showers
Sunday night.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Radar shows steady snow has moved east of the area. As a result,
the Winter Weather Advisory was dropped. NE flow in wake of the
low and lingering low- level moisture could support some light
snow showers or flurries over the higher terrain over much of
the rest of western NY overnight. Upsloping is also likely to
result in patchy fog, especially across higher terrain in the
Western Southern Tier. Temperatures will be rather steady
overnight, in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

A few snow showers may linger from the western Southern Tier
through the Genesee Valley to points southeast of Lake Ontario
Saturday morning as wrap around moisture and the upper level low
exit. These will end by mid to late morning.

Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, after the low pressure
system tracks off the east coast, lingering moisture eventually
will scour out for some sunshine by afternoon as brief ridging
moves in. Temperatures will reach the lower to middle 40s. High
pressure ridge exits east late on Saturday afternoon so return
flow develops and it will become gusty. SW winds could gust over
30 mph to the northeast of Lake Erie late in the day. Those sw
winds will continue to stir on Saturday night ahead of an
approaching front. Though any precip with the front will hold
off til Sunday, the steady sw winds will keep temps from falling
off much at all on Saturday night. Lows will only drop to the
mid 30s inland and near 40F over western NY and along Lake
Ontario.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
A cold front with time will sag south and southeast into the
eastern Great Lakes by late in the day on Sunday. Ahead of the
front, dry weather will likely be maintain areawide for the
first half of the day. While it will likely be rain free, clouds
will more than likely increase in coverage with mostly cloud to
cloudy skies by Sunday afternoon. As we head into Sunday
evening, the front will enter the region with increasing chances
for rain showers. Highs on Sunday will actually climb to near
normal which is in the upper 50s to near 60F.

Sunday night, the cold front sweeps across the region
overnight. Rain showers will diminish in coverage and even could
mix with a bit of snow across higher terrain as colder air
rushes in behind the front. Lows overnight will fall back into
the upper 20s across the higher terrain to the lower 30s along
the lake plains.

Monday, surface high pressure to our west and northwest quickly
builds in across the Lower Lakes. This will bring about a brief
period of dry and fair weather to the region. While dry, it
will be a chilly day as the air mass behind the front is rather
quite cold with H850T -6C to -8C. This will only support highs
in the mid to upper 40s for most locations, cooler across the
Tug hill with low 40s.

Monday night, the next upstream system heads east and southeast
with a cold front approaching the region overnight. Look again
for increasing clouds and chances for rain and snow showers by
daybreak Tuesday. Lows overnight will bottom out in the 30s
across the region.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Sharp mid level trough and associated surface cold front will
cross western and north central NY on Tuesday. This will bring a
round of mainly rain showers along and ahead of the front
through the first half of the day, along with opening the door
once again for the next shot of cold Canadian air to pour across
the region. Any leftover showers behind the front may possibly
start to mix with wet snow late in the day with the loss of
April diurnal influences as airmass grows cold enough. The heart
of the cold airmass will cross the region Tuesday night with
model consensus 850Ts in the -10C to -12C range across western
NY, with -13C to -15C east of Lake Ontario. It will be a chilly
night for sure with an airmass the will definitely be cold
enough to induce some northwesterly flow lake response along
with some upslope snow showers across the terrain Tuesday night
into the first part of Wednesday in the typical northwesterly
flow regime favored areas, especially east and southeast of Lake
Ontario. However, overall lack of synoptic moisture and low
level ridging quickly building in from the west will limit what
could have been a larger response with the right setup and
timing being at night. Just have to see exactly how this
scenario evolves as we get closer. Something to look forward to
for all of those wishing for some more long term 'spring-like'
conditions; this may be the last shot of very cold air (by
latter April standards), as the highly amplified pattern relaxes
a bit allowing coldest air to retreat and remain well north of
the Canadian border beyond this point.

High pressure will quickly slide south of the area and off the Mid
Atlantic coast by late in the day Wednesday. This will allow a
southerly flow of warmer air to flow north across the region
through the day with temps aloft rapidly warming, effectively
shutting off any northwesterly flow lake enhancement fairly
early in the day. This should leave behind a mainly dry
remainder of the day, with the chance of a few showers again
late as a stronger wing of warm advection moves into the region
in advance of an approaching warm front over the Ohio Valley.
However, with a lack of decent mid and upper level forcing, this
will bring only the chance for some scattered light showers
Wednesday night, possibly mixed with a bit of wet snow east of
Lake Ontario at the onset. After brief window of quieter weather
on Thursday behind the warm front, a strengthening area of low
pressure developing over the Ohio Valley will approach the area
late Thursday, passing somewhere southeast of the area on
Friday. This has the potential to bring a decent chance of rain
showers to the area later Thursday night into Friday, however
the evolution and exact track of this system is still in
question, so stay tuned.

Otherwise, temperatures will still remain below average through
this period. That said, after much below normal highs in the
upper 30s and 40s for mid week, a warming trend will be seen for
Thursday and Friday with many areas getting up into the 50s.

.AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Overall, a difficult forecast for the 06Z - 15Z timeframe with
lots of low level moisture and a risk of IFR or lower flight
conditions. Expect a gradual improvement from N-S during this
time as drier air builds in, but until this happens predominantly
IFR conditions at BUF/ROC/JHW. Forecast uses a blend of HRRR and
BUFKIT soundings which are slightly more optimistic than MOS
guidance. Another potential concern is for fog which may
develop, especially across higher terrain.

Forecast confidence improves this morning when drier air will
rapidly build in with a more westerly component in the surface
winds (SW-NW). Expect widespread VFR flight conditions by
Saturday afternoon which will last through 06Z Sunday. Winds
aloft will increase this evening, but will not mix to the
surface which will result in LLWS.
