.SYNOPSIS...
Winds will gradually subside overnight as strong low pressure
moves further away into northern Quebec. A cool cyclonic flow
aloft will maintain below normal temperatures through the end
of the week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Strong low pressure will continue to move northward and further
away into norther Quebec tonight. 925mb winds now down to 40 kts
on the 00Z Buffalo sounding, and are just a bit stronger to the
east. The pressure gradient will gradually lax overnight with
winds aloft gradually diminishing. Based on these trends and
latest observations, will drop the High Wind Warning. There
still will be gusts to 45 mph late this evening, mainly east of
Lake Ontario and along the immediate lakeshore where winds
aloft will mix most effectively.

Otherwise, radar shows showers have ended across Western New
York. Cooler air aloft (-9c at 850mb) and an approaching
shortwave may result in some light lake effect/enhanced snow
showers east of Lake Ontario late tonight and early Tuesday
morning. Any accumulations would be minimal.

On Tuesday...deep low will continue to spin over northern Quebec,
but will see improving conditions across our region. After a few
snow showers early on the Tug Hill, will see partly cloudy skies
with breezy conditions as wind gusts remain 25-30 mph. Clouds
thicken by late afternoon as weaker shortwave pushes in. That wave
could bring a little very light snow to mainly the Southern Tier on
Tuesday night. Highs on Tuesday will be back well below normal in
the lower to middle 40s. Lows Tuesday night will be chilly with
upper 20s inland to lower 30s elsewhere.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
An upper level trough will remain over our region this period,
providing for cool temperatures...cloudiness and periodic rounds of
light showers. Temperatures will be cool enough that wet snowflakes
will be possible across the hill tops, with little or no
accumulation. Moisture profiles are not deeply saturated, and daily
precipitation amounts will likely remain under a tenth of an inch
from these showers. A tightening pressure gradient will produce a
gusty breeze during the day Thursday.

The deeper moisture arrives Friday, especially across the southern
areas. This combined with a passing shortwave trough will likely
produce the most widespread shower activity over this period...with
daily totals possibly exceeding a tenth of an inch.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
A large scale trough will relax some this period, allowing for
warmer air from the south to push northward into our region. While
Saturday morning will likely start with 850 hPa still well below
zero, these 850 hPa temperatures will warm to the positive side of
zero on Sunday. This will allow for surface temperatures to climb
towards normal.

There will be increasing amounts of sunshine during the day Saturday
as a surface high pressure axis slides through. However by Sunday
and ahead of the next upper level trough, moisture and precipitation
chances will again increase.

The models vary about the strength of early next week's upper level
trough. The 12Z ECMWF is deeper than the GFS...though much of the
12Z GFS ensemble members are deeper with the trough than the
operational run. Will side on the cooler side of guidance for
temperatures...with again below normal afternoon highs on Monday.

.AVIATION /01Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Mainly VFR flight conditions late this evening with cloud bases
just above 3k ft. Clouds will gradually dissipate from SW-NE
tonight with conditions improving to VFR overnight.

Clearing trend late tonight and Tuesday morning with VFR
conditions and moderate winds.

Outlook...

Tuesday night...Mainly VFR.
Wednesday and Thursday...VFR/MVFR with a chance of rain and
snow showers.
Friday and Saturday...Mainly VFR.

.MARINE...
A strong cyclone tracking across northern Quebec will maintain
gales through at least the first half of tonight. It appears
winds will drop below gale late tonight or early Tuesday
morning. Winds will then gradually subside Tuesday and
particularly Tuesday night.

High pressure over the Ohio Valley on Wednesday will then support
moderate breezes and sub SCA conditions throughout the region for
the middle of the week.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
A strong storm system will across northern Quebec will maintain
strong winds across the Lower Great Lakes tonight.

Lake Erie...Highest levels have been reached. Slight uptick in
winds due to colder air and better mixing should allow levels to
continue to hover near the 8ft level tonight.

Lake Ontario...The very strong southwesterly flow combined with
the high lake levels will also result in lakeshore flooding at
the eastern end of Lake Ontario. This will be a high end event
as well, with especially high wave action, along with a rise in
lake levels. This will impact typically vulnerable bays, inlets,
and harbors, and damage may extend along the Saint Lawrence
River. Lakeshore flood warnings continue for Oswego and
Jefferson counties.
