Much colder air will move into the region early this week, with a
few lake effect snow showers southeast of the lakes, but any
accumulation will be minor. Some light accumulating snow will be
possible by mid week as a strong storm just clips our region as it
tracks up the East Coast.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
Scattered lake effect/upslope snow showers or flurries will
continue east of the lakes tonight. Any accumulation will be
limited to less than an inch, otherwise dry weather with much
lighter winds.

An arctic front will push across the area on Monday. Mesoscale
guidance shows limited lake enhancement east of the lakes where
an inch or two of snow is possible. Otherwise, areas northeast
of the lakes can expect a coating to maybe an inch, with little
if any accumulation further inland. It will become breezy and
cooler mid to late afternoon following the passage of the front.

south of Lake Ontario, becoming multibanded in structure...limiting
the overall snow accumulation.

An inch or two of lake effect snow southeast of Lake Ontario will
diminish to scattered flurries and light snow showers south of Lake
Ontario Tuesday as surface high pressure expands across the Eastern
Great Lakes region.

This surface high will provide cold, dry air that will leave the
remainder of this period with below normal temperatures.

Under clearing skies and within a dry airmass with light winds,
Tuesday night will feature the coldest air for many for this young
winter season...with sub zero temperatures possible in the colder
spots east of Lake Ontario.

On Wednesday, a narrow band of reverse lake effect snow over Lake
Ontario could brush the shorelines of Niagara and Orleans counties
with light snow showers or flurries.

Later Wednesday attention will turn to a storm system crossing the
Southeast, and rapidly deepening off the southern New England
coastline Wednesday night. The overall flow is progressive enough to
keep this eastward track to the storm, with only its northwest edge
brushing by our region. Light snow Wednesday will end through the
night as this storm tracks towards New England.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
High pressure will remain over the Canadian Maritimes late in the
week. Any light snow should be ending across interior portions of
the eastern Great Lakes region as a powerful coastal storms moves
out to sea. Some lake response may result in snow showers
across the western end of Lake Ontario into Thursday night.
Mostly dry weather expected into the weekend as surface high
pressure moves in behind the coastal storm. Chances for rain and
snow showers increases into Sunday as a cold front approaches
the region.

.AVIATION /02Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A few lake enhanced snow showers or flurries will continue east
of the lakes tonight with cigs predominately MVFR. IFR possible
across higher terrain east of the lakes.

Arctic front comes through Monday with local visibility restrictions
is lake effect snow east of the lakes. Expect breezy but VFR
flight conditions following the passage Monday afternoon.

Outlook...

Tuesday...Mainly VFR but MVFR/local IFR in lake snow showers
southeast of Lakes Erie and Ontario.
Wednesday and Thursday...A chance of snow and associated IFR.
Friday..mainly VFR.

Winds will gradually diminish this evening. Small craft headlines
will drop from west to east, then winds will temporarily subside
Monday morning.

A trough will then cross the eastern Great Lakes Monday afternoon,
with another round of stronger northwest winds Monday afternoon
through Tuesday.
