.SYNOPSIS...
Lake effect snows will diminish through the day. Dry weather for
most locations from this afternoon through the first half of the
weekend. A warm front will cause some windy conditions for Thursday,
while also initiating a warming trend through the end of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Ongoing lake snows will weaken and then diminish in response to the
incoming ridge of high pressure to our west. While lake snows
diminish, NW'erly flow and chilly H850T aloft( -11C to -13C) will keep
a fair amount of cloud cover going southeast of the lakes through
most of the daylight hours. However, by late this afternoon there
will likely be enough breaks in the cloud shield to allow for some
sunshine to break out across the region. Highs today will still
be below normal with low to mid 30s south of Lake Ontario and
in the low 20s to near 30 east of Lake Ontario.

Tonight, warm air advection and cloud cover will increase as a warm
front passes to the north. This will result in warming temperatures
through the night, with lows occuring before Midnight. These early
lows tonight will be in the low 30s across far Western NY and
gradually cool to the upper teens for areas east of Lake Ontario.
There will be a chance for a few early evening lingering lake
showers northeast of both lakes, and then a slight chance for
showers north and northeast of Lake Ontario as the warm front tracks
north of the area.

&&

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure will settle southeast into the Mid-Atlantic region
Thursday allowing for return flow of warmer air. A tightening
pressure gradient along the northwestern periphery of the high will
result in a windy day, with diurnal mixing of the boundary layer
tapping into the stronger flow aloft (50-60 knots at 925 mb).
Momentum transfer profiles suggesting peak gusts could be as high as
50 mph, with the highest gust potential confined to areas northeast
of the lakes.

Winds will come down early Thursday night, but still stay on the
breezy side. It will be a mild night as a weak frontal boundary
approaches the region. This weak boundary will slide into the region
Friday, but will be moisture starved, so expecting just an increase
in clouds through the day Friday.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The previous weak frontal boundary remains stalled near the region
Saturday as a more zonal upper level pattern takes hold over the
eastern half of CONUS. The stalled front will likely lead to quite a
bit of cloud cover for Saturday, though weak surface high pressure
just to the north should limit chances for rain showers during the
day. Rain chances increase Saturday night and into Sunday as the
front lifts back through the area and high pressure retreats to the
northeast. A potent shortwave then dives southeast in the Midwest
and brings a cold front from the west, which will likely bring
precipitation to the entire area late Sunday night through Monday,
tapering off late Monday night.

Temperatures through the weekend should remain fairly warm before
the cold frontal passage, lending to a mostly rain forecast. Higher
elevations east of Lake Ontario may see some snow or mixed precip
Sunday and Monday night with any lingering precip in the area.

Weakening lake snows will produce MVFR conditions across the higher
terrain of the Southern Tier at KJHW through early this afternoon.
Otherwise, VFR will take hold across the region as lake snows diminish
