.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will provide fair weather today. Heat and humidity
will build today through Wednesday. A cold front passing
through late Wednesday into Thursday will bring a few rounds of
showers and thunderstorms, especially Wednesday night.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Visible satellite imagery shows plenty of sunshine late this morning
for the bulk of the area, with clouds limited to Jefferson and Lewis
counties. Temperatures are warming quickly as diurnal mixing erases
the steep and shallow inversion noted on the 12Z KBUF sounding.

Ridge aloft will slide across the region today. Plenty of sunshine
is expected, expect across the Saint Lawrence Valley, where a
strengthening warm frontal segment from the Ottawa Valley to
northeast NY will bring some mid level cloud cover. Trended
temperatures toward the warmer side of guidance envelope with most
highs away from the lakes in the mid 80s to near 90.

Ridge axis slides east tonight. Moisture will begin to edge up,
especially after midnight as the remnants of Cristobal lift north
through the upper Midwest, and we start to set up decent
moisture transport across western New York as the nose of low
level jet begins to work into the area. Could see a few showers
or perhaps a thunderstorm arc into western New York well after
midnight. An uptick in humidity levels will bring a warm and
more humid night.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Wednesday will be hot and muggy with near record high temperatures
and heat index values which will climb well into the 90s. Tropical
remnants will combine with a northern branch shortwave to produce a
982 mb low which will move north of Lake Superior on Wednesday. An
associated warm front will move across our region Wednesday morning,
which will place the area in a tropical airmass. A SSW surface flow
will prevent a lake breeze, which will allow temperatures to rise
into the lower 90s across the WNY lake plains and valleys. There
will be scattered showers and thunderstorms with the warm front, but
expect the majority of Wednesday afternoon to be dry with our region
in the warm sector. These storms would mainly be across the
North Country, where a few strong storms are possible.

The better chance for showers and storms will come later Wednesday
and Wednesday night as height falls aloft due to the passage of a
sharp upper level trough. Thunderstorms may develop along a pre-
frontal trough or ahead of a cold front which will move through
later Wednesday night. Shear will increase ahead of the front, with
850mb winds increasing to 50 knots. The airmass will be unstable
Wednesday evening, with MUCAPE 1500 to 2000 J/Kg, and this will only
lower some as the night goes on. The combination of wind shear and
instability has the potential to produce severe thunderstorms. Based
on 00Z guidance, the front may pass a bit later Wednesday night.
While this later timing may limit the coverage storms, there still
is a potential for strong storms to last well into Wednesday night.
SPC highlights a slight risk for severe weather across the entire
forecast area.

The cold front will slide east of the area Thursday, with perhaps
some showers across eastern portions of the cwa Thursday morning.
Things will dry out Thursday afternoon, with clearing skies and much
lower humidity. Highs Thursday will mainly be in the 70s. High
pressure centered across the nations mid-section will ridge toward
the region Thursday night however a shortwave and approaching cold
front will maintain a modest pressure gradient which will hinder
radiational cooling.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
An upper level trough will settle across the eastern Great Lakes,
which will result in below normal temperatures through Sunday. There
may be a few showers due shortwaves embedded in the cyclonic flow
aloft, but the majority of the time will be dry. Highs will start
off in the low to mid 70s Friday, then drop into the mid to upper
60s for weekend. Monday will be dry and warmer with a mid level
ridge building back into the region.

.AVIATION /15Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Some mid level clouds will continue to stream across the North
Country today. Otherwise mainly clear skies will prevail for the
rest of the area into this evening with VFR prevailing.

Outlook...

Tonight and Wednesday...Mainly VFR with a chance of showers and
thunderstorms.
Wednesday night...Areas of MVFR and brief IFR with showers and
thunderstorms likely.
Thursday...Mainly VFR with a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Friday...Mainly VFR.
Saturday...VFR/MVFR with a chance of showers.

.MARINE...
Light winds and low wave action expected today under high pressure.
The gradient winds will allow local lake breezes to develop
this afternoon.

A cold front will approach the eastern Great Lakes Wednesday, and
cross early Thursday morning. East winds will briefly increase on
Lake Ontario tonight ahead of the system, producing choppy
conditions on the west half of the lake. South-southwest winds will
increase Wednesday on both lakes. The strongest period of winds will
likely occur Thursday in the wake of the cold front, with Small
Craft Advisory conditions possible on both lakes.
