.SYNOPSIS...
Humidity levels will increase through Thursday with an
increased risk of showers and scattered thunderstorms Thursday
and Thursday evening as a cold approaches. Locally heavy
downpours are possible. Cold front slowly progresses eastward
Thursday night and off the coast on Friday. Continued chances
for rain across southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island
Thursday night, then tapering off into Friday. Seasonably cooler
with more comfortable humidity levels for Friday into Saturday.
Unsettled Sunday through midweek with lots of clouds and off-
and-on showers, with temperatures trending slightly cooler than
normal.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Mid level ridge builds into New Eng today, but warm front will
remain to the south and west of SNE as high pres over Nova
Scotia maintains low level E/SE flow. This will result in
cooler temps mostly in the 70s in eastern MA/RI with upper 60s
possible along the immediate eastern MA coast coast, but into
the mid 80s in the CT valley. Dewpoints will be climbing into
the 60s so it will feel more humid. The higher dewpoints
combined with onshore flow will result in lower clouds
developing and expanding across SE and eastern New Eng,
especially during the afternoon. Partial sunshine will give way
to mostly cloudy skies here with most sunshine today in the CT
valley. Instability axis will remain to the west through today
where best chance of any convection, but a low risk for
weakening convection in the form of an isolated showers/t-storm
spilling into western MA late day/early evening.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
Tonight...

Warm front lifts northward across SNE tonight with southerly
flow developing. Higher dewpoints moving northward will lead to
development of low clouds and patchy fog. A few showers or an
isolated t-storm is possible in western New Eng where marginal
elevated instability is present. Otherwise, mainly dry except
for some patchy drizzle possible in eastern New Eng. A mild and
humid night with lows mostly in the 60s, and near 70 in the
lower CT valley.

Thursday...

Mid level trough lifts NE from the Gt Lakes region with
attendant cold front approaching from the west and moving into
western New Eng toward evening. Low level theta-e ridge axis and
high PWATs over 2 inches will move into the region ahead of the
front. Increased risk for sct showers and a few t-storms moving
in from the west, especially during the afternoon. However,
areal coverage will likely be limited by marginal instability as
lots of low clouds expected and soundings indicate instability
may be more elevated. Also, best forcing will be lifting to
the north and west of the region. However, any convection will
have potential for locally heavy downpours given high PWAT
airmass. Highs mostly in the 70s and rather humid with dewpoints
65-70.

Thursday Night into Friday:

Cold front from late-Thursday will continue to trudge slowly
eastward towards the eastern coast of Southern New England thru the
period. Still some difference in the guidance on how quickly
eastward the front moves offshore, with the 00z GFS being more
progressive than the NAM and ECMWF. Preference is toward the slower
NAM/ECMWF idea as 700-500 mb flow becomes increasingly parallel to
the frontal zone. Could still have some localized downpours across
central/eastern MA, RI and the South Coast/Cape Cod and Islands
Thursday night, given continued indications for efficient warm-rain
processes (narrow vertical profiles of CAPE, PWATs in excess of 2",
and 12.5-13.5 kft warm-cloud depths). Forecast QPF values aren't
exactly substantial, but could have some urban/poor drainage hydro
concerns if showers or storms train over the same areas. Still may
have some lingering showers across Cape Cod on Friday, but most of
the interior and coastal plain look dry with lower humidity levels.
And drier conditions anticipated by late in the day across the Cape
and Islands as well.

Lows Thursday night upper 50s northwest MA and the Route 2 area to
the low-mid 60s from the Mass Pike/I-495 south and east. Highs
Friday should top out near 80 in most locales except low-mid 70s
across the Cape and Islands.

Friday Night into Saturday Night:

By Friday night Southern New England will be under influence of
weak/relative surface ridging, basically stuck between the slowing
cold front just offshore and a 850 mb cold front across western NY.
Friday night should be mostly clear and dry. Some question how far
east the 850 mb front advances on Saturday; GFS is quite bullish on
both the chances for rains and how far east rain gets (much of the
interior SE to I-95) as compared to either the ECMWF and the
Canadian GEM. Though I think the GFS is something of an outlier, did
introduce slight chance type PoPs for areas N/W of I-95 on into
northern CT. So some uncertainty that still needs to be resolved but
preference is toward the less-progressive ECMWF/GEM idea. By
Saturday night, surface high builds into northern ME and allows for
east onshore flow to develop, leading to increasing clouds and while
not everyone sees them better chances exist Saturday night for light
showers. Lows in the 50s to low 60s each night, with highs Saturday
in the 70s, near to slightly below normal.

Sunday into Midweek:

There is good agreement among the global ensemble means in showing a
closed-off upper low, becoming centered in the Ohio Valley into the
central Appalachians in this period. The global deterministic NWP
guidance all agree with carving out an upper low as well; but there
is considerable solution spread across the guidance regarding the
upper low's initial position and its track towards the East Coast
toward midweek. Surface high parked over Nova Scotia into northern
ME should help produce a few days of easterly onshore flow, leading
to more clouds than sun with periods of light rains. Rains may
become a bit more enhanced at some point into the early to middle
part of next week as moisture around the upper low interacts with an
inverted trough near the mid-Atlantic seaboard. However given spread
in guidance on upper low position, it's difficult to pinpoint at
this point which day(s) may be wetter than others. That'll have to
be refined a bit more with better consensus in the guidance. All in
all, it projects as a fairly unsettled period with a generous amount
of clouds/cooler temps with periods of showers.

Eng. MVFR CT valley possibly lowering to IFR late. A few showers
or an isolated t-storm may spill into western MA this evening.
Patchy drizzle possible in eastern New Eng.

Widespread IFR/MVFR cigs. Scattered showers/t-storms moving
into the region from the west. Locally heavy downpours possible.
S/SW gusts to 25-30 kt developing across eastern MA/RI.

KBDL Terminal...High confidence in trends but lower confidence
