.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will cross southern New England this afternoon and
early evening, bringing scattered showers and a brief period of
strong wind gusts. Drier conditions are forecast for tonight.
Mostly sunny conditions for Saturday with blustery northwest
winds to continue. High pressure will bring dry and seasonably
chilly temperatures to the region Sunday and Monday. A fast
moving low pressure system follows with a brief period of mainly
rain showers on Tuesday. Dry and seasonable weather follows
Wednesday into early Thursday. A low pressure system approaching
from the southwest will likely bring a period or two of mainly
rain sometime later Thursday into Friday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...

Thru early this evening...

As of 4 pm there was a fine line of showers along the cold
front, which had tracked east of AFN/ORE/BAF and was moving
E at about 30 kt. Radar and upstream surface obs indicated the
potential for wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph with the fine line, if
it continues holds together. Covering this via SPS at this
time. Once the cold front passes through our area, precip ends
and decreasing clouds are expected. Otherwise behind the front
and initial wind gusts, we'll likely have WNW wind gusts of 25
to 30 mph prior to sunset.

Tonight...

Cold front moves offshore leaving our area in a dry NW flow. Across
the interior high terrain and the Cape/Islands and the east coastal
MA shoreline, we may see a continuation of wind gusts 25 to 30 mph
overnight. Otherwise winds gradually diminish. Temperatures dip into
the 30s across much of the region, a few spots in the interior high
terrain may fall into the upper 20s.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...

Saturday...

Northwest flow continues with weak surface ridging.  The ridging and
surface dewpoints in the 20s will allow for mostly sunny skies.
Afternoon highs will range from the mid 40s to mid 50s, allowing for
good mixing in the low levels. Thus some wind gusts around 25 mph
are expected.

Saturday Night...

A dry night for southern New England with main influences being dry
W/NW flow and weak ridging of high pressure. However, a mid level
short wave and developing open wave pass well south of our region
during the overnight, but will likely bring a period of mid and high
deck cloudiness to southern New England. This could limit
radiational cooling, allowing for milder overnight lows. At this
time going with a model blend for overnight lows, mainly in the mid
20s to mid 30s.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...

Details...

Sunday and Monday...

A large Canadian high pressure system around 1040 MB will build
south into the region Sun & Mon. Plenty of strong March sunshine
will still allow highs to reach well up into the 40s in many
locations Sun and generally lower to middle 40s by Mon. It will be a
bit colder along portions of the coast, as weak gradient allows for
onshore flow which may keep highs below 40 especially on Mon.
Overnight low temps Sun night should bottom out in the teens in some
outlying locations, to the lower to middle 20s in the urban centers.

Tuesday...

The large high pressure system will move east of the region by Tue,
as a shortwave/cold front approach from the west. This overall looks
to be a progressive system with a brief burst of warm advection
showers. Given the surface high moving east of the region,
precipitation type should be mainly a brief round of showers. This
is more of a frontal wave, so rainfall amounts will be light. It is
possible across parts of the interior high terrain that the showers
begin as a brief period of light snow/ice.

Wednesday through Friday...

Another large high pressure system builds into the region for
Wednesday. This will bring dry/seasonably chilly air back into the
region. Highs will mainly be in the 40s on Wednesday. Dry weather
will persist Wed night into the first half of Thu, but low pressure
approaching from the southwest will result in a period or two of
mainly rain sometime late Thu into Fri. Precipitation type should
generally be rain, but can not rule out the risk for a bit of snow
at the onset across portions of the interior.

.AVIATION /20Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

4 PM Update...

Through 00Z...Moderate confidence.

The IFR was lifting across the interior, confined to the I-95
corridor and KORH as of 4 pm. Cold front pushing thru BAF/BDL
shortly, expected to reach ORH/IJD by 5 pm, BOS/PVD by 6 pm. A fine
line of SHRA was associated with the cold front. A wind shift to the
WNW occurs with FROPA, along with the potential for brief wind gusts
of 35-45 kts. Conditions improve to VFR behind the front.

Tonight...High confidence.

VFR. NW winds gusting to 25-30 kt early, then gusts are more limited
to the interior high terrain and east coastal MA shoreline.

Saturday...High confidence.

VFR. NW winds around 15 kt, gusts 20-25 kt.

Saturday Night...High confidence.

VFR. NW winds around 10 kt.

KBOS Terminal...Moderate confidence in TAF thru 00Z, then high
confidence. MVFR CIGs become BKN w/SW winds becoming W/WNW by 22Z. A
brief period of wind gusts 35 to near 40 kt possible 21 to 22Z
timeframe due to cold FROPA and associated fine line of SHRA. Then
VFR with gusty WNW wind.

KBDL Terminal...Moderate confidence in TAF thru 00Z, then high
confidence. Cold front was moving thru BDL area at 20Z with fineline
of SHRA and WNW wind gusts 35 to 40 kt possible thru 21Z. Then VFR
with decreasing clouds, wind gusts gradually diminish thru 00Z.

...BRIEF WESTERLY WIND GUSTS OF 40 TO 50 MPH WINDS EXPECTED LATER
TODAY BEHIND A COLD FRONT...

A cold front will cross the region this afternoon into early this
evening. Along and immediately behind the cold front, a brief
period of westerly wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected. The
cold front looks to move across western Massachusetts and northern
Connecticut around 2 or 3 PM, across most of eastern
Massachusetts and Rhode Island by 4 or 5 PM, and lastly the Cape
and Islands around 6 or 7 PM.

The cold front may be accompanied by a brief line of showers. The
main thing will be brief westerly wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph,
which may result in a few downed tree limbs and perhaps isolated
power outages.

strong winds and brief heavy rainfall. The line extended from near
Colrain to Becket, and southwest to near Great Barrington. Movement
was southeast at 30 mph.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will accompany these storms. This may
result in some downed tree limbs. In addition, brief heavy rainfall
will cause a sharp reduction in visibility.

This line is expected to reach the I-91 corridor by 4 pm, and
a line from Fitchburg to Worcester, to Willimantic by 5 pm.
