At 525 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Worcester,
moving east at 15 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Trained weather spotters reported numerous reports of wind 
         and tree damage across central and northeast Massachusetts. 
         At 520 PM the Worcester airport had a measured wind gust 
         to 62 mph! These storms have a history of wind damage, seek 
         an indoor shelter immediately.         

IMPACT...Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. Minor hail 
         damage to vehicles is possible.

Locations impacted include...

.SYNOPSIS...
Warm and humid conditions will continue into Tuesday, when a
strong cold front will move across the region. Isolated severe
thunderstorms are possible Monday afternoon and evening but more
widespread severe storms are possible Tuesday. After a brief
taste of fall on Wednesday, summer weather and thunderstorms
return by late week into the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM MONDAY MORNING/...
410 PM update...

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms were occurring in
northern MA, mainly north of the Mass Pike. Numerous trees were
downed in the Orange, MA area. Downdraft CAPE and mid level
lapse rates near 6 C/km were helping some storms to be severe.
Additional storms were approaching the Berkshires from eastern
NY.

Any leftover storms should weakening and/or move offshore early
tonight. We should see improving conditions as we move into the
midnight/early-overnight hours. However, the higher dewpoints
and light southwest flow should allow a renewed generation of
fog and low clouds in southern RI and southeast MA, including
Cape Cod and the Islands. Locally dense fog is likely. Muggy
overnight with lows in the mid 60s to near 70.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM MONDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Monday...

Looks like pretty much a repeat of what we have had on Saturday
and Sunday. Fog and low clouds in southeast areas will dissipate
around mid-morning. A weak surface pressure gradient will be in
place with relatively light flow aloft. Strong heating will
take place, with highs again near 90 in the interior (cooler at
the immediate coast) and dewpoints in the upper 60s to lower
70s. Model K Indices reach 35 to 38, which spells more
convective activity in the afternoon and evening hours. No
particular focusing mechanisms, but bulk shear values will be
better in the central and southeastern part of the region. Sea
breeze fronts may also play a role. A few severe storms cannot
be ruled out.

Monday night...

Evening showers or thunderstorms will dissipate. A strong cold
front advancing through the Great Lakes will remain well to our
west. We can expect another muggy night with lows in the upper
60s to near 70. Areas of fog possible again, mainly in
southeast sections, although increasing winds aloft may make it
less widespread than Sunday night and just confined to the
immediate south coast.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Highlights

* Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible as a cold front moves
  across New England.

* A brief taste of fall for mid-week as temperatures drop into the
  low and middle 70s.

* Unsettled weather pattern second half of the week and chance
  for remnant tropical moisture by next weekend.

Through Tuesday Evening...

As previously stated in a prior discussion, the NAM continues to
show a fast bias for the arrival of the cold front - with the front
arriving between 12z and 18z. While the ECMWF/GFS/CMC show good
agreement the arrival of the cold front between 18z Tuesday and 00z
Wednesday. The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of southern
New England under a 'Slight Risk' for severe weather Tuesday. SB
CAPE values are modest, between 1,000 and 2,000 J/kg and show
sufficient deep layer shear between 35 and 50 knots.

Still on track, an EML moving in from the mid section of the
country, forecast lapse rates for mid-levels are between +6C/km and
+7C/km and low-level lapse rates reach +7C/km and +8.5C/km. That
coupled with daytime maximum temperatures in the upper 80s to near
90 degrees, dewpoints between 68F and 70F, the parameters are looking
healthy to support strong and severe storms.

Heavy downpours are also likely, PWAT values are between 1.50" and
1.80" during the afternoon. Urban flooding would be the biggest
concern as area waterways remain lower than normal as a result of
the dry weather pattern.

Wednesday...

***Small Craft Advisory might be needed as outer water could see
wave heights between 5 & 7 feet***

High pressure slides south out of Hudson Bay in Canada and with a
northwest flow it will feel as if it were early fall. I did go with
a bit of cooler guidance, maximum temperatures will be found away
from the coast and higher terrain of the Berkshires in the mid-70s.
At the coast temperatures will be in the low-70s and even the upper
60s in the Berkshires. Additionally, dewpoints will be in the mid-
40s inland and mid-50s at the coast. Those who've been waiting for a
refreshing "fall-like" day... Wednesday is it!

Thursday through Friday...

The end of the week is looking like unsettled weather. Thursday
the chance for rain returns, but the ECMWF and GFS vary on how
fast a weak area of low pressure moves; the GFS being the slower
of the two. Friday, the ECMWF lingers a few showers during the
day while the GFS dries us out. It will also be noticeably
warmer, with temperatures trending back into the upper 70s to
80 degrees on Thursday and the low 80s Friday and Saturday with
dewpoints in the low and middle 60s.

Saturday...

While it is still far off, the models are showing signs of remnant
tropical moisture from Marco & Laura could get caught in the upper-
level flow and arrive into southern New England by as early as
Friday night or Saturday. With this still being several days away I
will not get into any specifics. Temperature wise, the second half
of the weekend trends a bit cooler, falling back into the low and
middle 70s.

Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

VFR except brief IFR in scattered thunderstorms through 02Z.
Greatest coverage mainly along/N of a KBDL-KPYM line. More
isolated TSRA threat southward from PVD to Cape Cod. A few TSRA
may become severe with wind gusts to 50 kt and hail.

Winds mainly SW 10-15 kt, locally stronger at the Cape airports
where stronger low-level jet could support occasional 20 kt
gusts. Sea breezes and onshore flow along the coast.

Tonight...High confidence.

Any thunderstorms diminish this evening. Will likely have brief
VFR conditions, but expecting IFR to LIFR fog and stratus
tonight in portions of RI and southeast MA, especially along
the south coast. Any areas where a shower/storm moved through
this afternoon will have a better opportunity for fog
developing. Light SW winds.

Monday: High confidence.

Early-day IFR-LIFR fog and/or stratus burning off soon after
sunrise. Mainly VFR, but strong heating will again lead to a
risk for SHRA/TSRA. Light SW winds with sea breezes at the
coast.

KBOS Terminal...High confidence in TAF. Sea-breeze around
14-15z, potential time window for VCTS/TSRA approx 20-01z.

KBDL Terminal...High confidence in TAF. Potential time window for
VCTS/TSRA approx 18-22z.

ESSEX AND MIDDLESEX COUNTY IN MASSACHUSETTS...

At 234 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Salem, moving east at 10 mph.

Penny size hail and wind gusts up to 50 mph will accompany this
storm. This storm has a history of producing 50 mph winds and 4
inches per hour rainfall rate in Southern New Hampshire.

Locations impacted include...
Lawrence, Haverhill, Methuen, Dracut, North Andover, Newburyport,
Amesbury, Ipswich, Salisbury, Georgetown, Boxford, Newbury,
Groveland, Merrimac, Topsfield, Rowley and West Newbury.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Get indoors when this storm approaches. Winds may be strong enough
to produce minor damage, such as a few downed branches. Do not drive
