.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure off the coast will continue to bring mild air
into the region tonight and Wednesday. A cold front from the
Plains swings east, crossing New England Wednesday night
bringing a period of showers which linger into Thursday,
especially near the south coast. Another system may bring a few
showers Friday with much cooler temperatures. High pressure
returns Saturday, then a frontal system will bring more showers
late Sunday into Monday. Blustery and cool conditions follow
Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...

110 AM Update...

Forecast is on track so no changes made. The Nighttime
Microphysics satellite product is showing areas of low stratus
and patchy fog moving into the CT River valley. This is
associated with the moist air mass with dew points in the mid
50s to low 60s. As expected, the good SW flow is preventing
widespread dense fog from developing, though localized dense fog
especially in fog-prone valley locations are possible.
Temperatures are holding steady in the mid 50s to low 60s
overnight.

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION...

1020 PM Update...

Only made minor changes to bring the near-term forecast with
current obs. Overall, a quiet night of weather with anomalously
warm temperatures. Overnight lows only drop into the low to mid
50s for most locations thanks to warm air advection bringing dew
points in the 50s northwards. With an impressive pressure
gradient (1024 mb high to our south and 998 mb low over
Wisconsin), it will be quite breezy overnight. This tends to
limit the development of dense fog, though locally dense
radiation fog could still occur especially in the fog-prone
valleys and MA coastal plains. Also watching a deck of low
stratus to infiltrate the area by the latter half of tonight,
further limiting the extent of radiational cooling.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
Morning fog dissipates, but is replaced by another low cloud
layer. Temperatures of 7-8C at 925 mb suggest one more day of
temps reaching the low to mid 70s.

A cold front over the Plains will reach NY/PA during the
afternoon/evening. The front, and the right entrance region of
the upper jet, remain to the west most of the day, so expect
most of the day to remain dry. PW values remain low during the
morning, but increase to 1.5 inches by 7 PM as tropical moisture
from Eta move up the coast. Best chance of rain will be in
western MA and CT 4-7pm, increasing all areas during the night.

Cold front sweeps through Srn New England Wednesday night,
accompanied by venting from the upper jet. PW values leading the
front will be 1.5 to 1.75 inches. Dew points forecast in the
lower 60s...dew points have been higher, but not by much. The
upper venting may support a wave moving up the cold front. All
of this should allow for showers through the night, with
highest probability south of the Mass Pike. The unseasonable
moisture may support local downpours. Total rainfall looks to be
in the 0.5 to 1.5 inch range. Mild temperatures are expected due
to the high dew points, in the 50s to around 60.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Highlights...

Thursday into Friday...

Cold front will be in the vicinity of the I-95 corridor Thu morning
with mild start to the day across RI and eastern MA while cooler
temps move into the interior. The front moves off the coast but will
likely stall just south of New Eng as a wave develops on the front.
Deepest moisture and heaviest rainfall will remain to the south, but
enough moisture combined with modest forcing in the right entrance
region of the upper jet to support a round of showers, focused south
of the Pike and especially near the south coast. Highest PoPs will
be along the coast decreasing northward. The rain should exit the
coast by evening but a few showers may linger early in the evening
over the Cape/Islands. Highs will be in the 60s across eastern MA
and RI but falling during the afternoon in post-frontal airmass as
winds turn N, with temps remaining in the 50s in the interior.

A more amplified shortwave moves through the Gt Lakes Thu night then
lifting to the north and west Friday. Another wave is expected to
develop and track south of New Eng with deepening moisture plume
moving into the region. Model consensus favors another round of
showers on Fri although ECMWF is dry. However, its ensembles support
a wetter scenario so we have introduced chc pops, especially along
and south of the Pike. Highs will be in the 50s, except upper 40s
interior higher terrain.

Saturday into Sunday...

High pres builds in Sat bringing sunshine and cool temps in the
upper 40s and lower 50s. High pres moves offshore Sun but it appears
low level dry air will linger into the afternoon so trending drier
for much of the day. Overrunning moisture in warm advection pattern
may bring a few showers by late in the day. Seasonable temps.

Sunday night into Monday...

This is likely the period with best chance of showers as fairly
robust mid level trough approaches from the west, with warm front
approaching Sun night followed by a cold front Mon. Timing is
uncertain so we will just have chc pops through this period.

Tuesday...

Chilly post-frontal airmass as upper trough moves over New Eng.
Blustery and cool with temps several degrees below normal.
