The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
  Southern Marengo County in southwestern Alabama...

* Until 645 PM CDT.
    
* At 554 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
  was located 7 miles southwest of Putnam, or 8 miles southeast of
  Butler, moving east at 50 mph.

  HAZARD...Tornado and quarter size hail.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

  IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 
           shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. 
           Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree 
           damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...
  Sweet Water, Putnam, Surginer, Shawnee, Dixons Mill, Vineland,
  Clayhill and Nicholsville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a

...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 645 PM CDT FOR SOUTHERN 
MARENGO COUNTY...
    
At 610 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located 7 miles southeast of Putnam, or 11 miles west of
Thomasville, moving east at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 
         shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage 
         to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is 
         likely.

Locations impacted include...
Shawnee, Surginer, Vineland, Clayhill and Nicholsville.

...THE TORNADO WARNING FOR SOUTHERN MARENGO COUNTY IS
CANCELLED...
                
The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and no longer appears capable of producing a tornado.
Therefore, the warning has been cancelled.  However gusty winds are
still possible with this thunderstorm.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM CDT for southwestern
Alabama.
