Through Tonight.

Central Alabama remains sandwiched in between the positively-
tilted upper trough and now stalling surface front to our
northwest and the increasing influence of Sally in the eastern
Gulf of Mexico. As has been the case the past couple of mornings
now, the low stratus clouds continue to hang on longer than
anticipated. This is especially the case across the southern-most
tier of counties stretching from Demopolis eastward to Montgomery
and Auburn southward. Those clouds will continue to slowly mix out
as we go into the late afternoon hours. The pressure gradient
between Sally in the Gulf and the surface ridge off to our
northeast in the Mid-Atlantic states is starting to increase with
wind gusts near 20 knots observed across southern Georgia and
southeast Alabama. Tropical showers are also starting to develop
across Florida and southern Georgia as well, and we're expecting
those to increase in coverage through the afternoon. PoPs have
been increased to likely as a result across the far southeast
counties based on current radar and high-res guidance trends.
We'll also keep our eye on shower and storm development across our
northwest counties closer to the now stalled surface front.
Flood concerns continue across northern Mississippi and far
northwest Alabama, but for our area in Marion County only
scattered activity is anticipated at this time through this
afternoon.

Scattered showers and storms will continue in the forecast through
the evening hours across the southern half of the area, much like
what has been observed the past couple of nights. Any strong
northwesterly-moving mesoscale boundary will easily lift enough
parcels to keep scattered storms going between 7pm and midnight
tonight. Otherwise, with tropical moisture in place we can expect
most locations to only fall into the mid 70s overnight with more
low clouds expected to move into the eastern and southeast
counties.

Today through Monday.

Two separate features on opposite ends of the state will be the
focus for rain today. An upper trof axis that resides along the MS
river has been producing mostly showers across MS overnight. The
trof axis will push slightly southeast today as a short wave trof
tracks eastward across the Great Lakes region. This will place the
far northwest counties in a favorable area for showers and a few
thunderstorms today and early this evening. All eyes are on the
northeast Gulf of Mexico as TC Sally tracks towards the Central Gulf
Coast states. Models are in fairly good agreement in developing a
northern feeder band across south Georgia and south Alabama later
this afternoon, and higher pops in order for southeast portions of
Central Alabama this afternoon and early evening. For a majority of
Central Alabama, today will be rain free due to a intrusion of mid
level dry air moving westward from Georgia. Rain chances have been
reduced accordingly, to around 20 percent. The lack of rain and
limited cloud cover will also allow temperatures to warm into the
lower 90s for most areas. Very little rainfall expected overnight
due to presence of drier mid level air. As TC Sally moves closer to
the coast on Monday, several feeder bands on the north side of Sally
will impact mainly south Alabama. However, the center of TC Sally
will remain far enough south of Central Alabama for any significant
wind or rainfall impacts at this time.

Slight adjustments made to the extended grids to account for changes
to the forecast track of TS Sally. No significant changes to the
forecast or impacts to Central Alabama were made. Rainfall continues
to be the main concern, with the highest rainfall totals across west
Central Alabama. Will hold off on issuing any flood watch products
until tomorrow after a few more updates to the QPF forecast.

Tuesday through Saturday.

Sally will continue to bear a variety of weather hazards to many
locations across the Southeast & Gulf Coast Region throughout the
next several days. As such, tonight's forecast update for Central AL
will include at least low confidence mentioning of a few items as
the system is forecast to come into close proximity to our area
as early as Tuesday night. Taking the forecast picture from the
National Hurricane Center and trends in latest guidance as the
likely scenario, the HWO will mention these potential impacts
from Sally;

- Excessive Rainfall (Monday thru Friday): Storm total rainfall
  of 2- 5" with locally higher amounts across Central AL. Highest
  forecast totals are expected in southwest Central AL beginning
  late Tuesday and into Wednesday. Higher totals could then extend
  northeastward along the I-20 corridor into Thursday as the
  system moves into the southern Appalachians. Possible excessive
  rainfall could lead to localized flooding of low- lying and/or
  poor drainage areas. This, of course, will depend upon a variety
  of factors including the system's track and evolution after
  landfall, as well as mesoscale considerations that could
  exacerbate bands of convection which may lead to locally higher
  totals. At this time, a Flash Flood Watch has not been issued as
  we'll reassess forecast totals and confidence in forthcoming
  updates. However, heavy rainfall over a 3-4 day period (across a
  large spatial extent) could lead to drainage basins running
  bank-full, which cloud lead to river flooding. This could impact
  the Tombigbee and Black Warrior River basins.

- Severe Weather (Wednesday thru Thursday): Given the forecast
  track from NHC and the latest trend in low-level kinematics in
  tonight's guidance, a parameter space favorable for tropical
  tornadoes could overspread portions Central AL as Sally pivots
  across the Deep South. As this depends upon other mesoscale
  considerations we cannot yet reasonably predict this far out
  (pockets of better instability, track dependent location of best
  low-level shear, etc), this will simply remain as a low-
  confidence or conditional threat in the HWO. This, too, will be
  reassessed in the coming days as details become more clear and
  confidence potentially increases.

- Gusty Winds (Wednesday thru Thursday): Current forecast
  trajectory of Sally could lead to areas across Central AL
  experiencing gusty winds at times. This would particularly
  involve bands of showers and thunderstorms as they are able to
  mix better wind energy to the surface. Regardless, the system's
  strength, size, and track will ultimately dictate this and other
  threats as expected. For now, sustained winds of 15-20 mph with
  gusts up to 30-40 mph cannot be ruled out considering the latest
  NHC guidance. This could yield the eventual need for a Wind
  Advisory as criteria is potentially met during this time frame.

Once the system transitions out of the area toward the end of the
week with the help of a shortwave trough, medium range guidance
suggests the passage of a surface frontal boundary and subsequent
period of northerly/northeasterly wind. If this holds true,
infiltration of drier/more stable air could reside across the area
heading into the weekend. As a result, I show a trend of decreasing
PoPs and more seasonable temperatures for Fri & Sat.

Convection for the day is done. More stratus will develop/push
into C AL in the early morning again with MGM/TOI having the best
chances. We remain in a wet pattern with more mainly afternoon
showers possible for Monday. While thunder may occur, our
atmosphere is more tropical ahead of Sally, and thunder should be
more isolated. Will forgo mention in extended part of TAFs for
thunder. Could see some MVFR conditions with showers Monday
afternoon, especially south at TOI.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Northeasterly to easterly surface and low-level flow is expected
to continue the next few days as a surface high pressure lingers
near the East Coast and Western Atlantic, as Tropical Storm Sally
slowly moves west northwestward through the northern Gulf of Mexico.
Surface and transport winds will favor these directions at ~5-12 mph
through Monday night. Best rain chances through this evening will be
across the northwest and southeast.

Area-wide moisture will continue to increase as Tropical Storm Sally
parallels the northern Gulf Coast, before making landfall Monday
night in southeastern Louisiana. Depending on the system's track,
rain chances and afternoon RH values are likely to remain quite
elevated through mid next week.

The latest forecast regarding Tropical Storm Sally brings the system
near or into Central Alabama early Wednesday morning through
Thursday night. Potential impacts from Sally include periods of heavy
rainfall which could lead to localized flooding as well as minor
river flooding, gusty winds up to 40 mph, and the conditional threat
of a few brief tornadoes.

At this time, these threats are expected to primarily remain in
areas along and west of Interstate 65. However, residents across
Central Alabama are encouraged to stay up to date with the latest
forecast information from the National Weather Service.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Activation of storm spotters and emergency management may be needed
early Wednesday into late Thursday. Please follow all local, state,
