.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)

Light showers/drizzle has persisted overnight across northeast Iowa,
far southern Minnesota, and southern Wisconsin which is tied to some
frontogenetic forcing around 850 mb. Areas further north did see a
break from the rain for a few hours.

Additional bouts of rain spreads into the region today as some
shortwave energy passes over the area. It will nearly feel like a
repeat of yesterday as the rain showers increase in spatial coverage
later this morning as the frontogenesis strengthens. Showers will
move across the region in the direction of the mid to upper-level
flow from the southwest to the northeast. Mainly expecting only rain
showers as the instability is lacking.

Temperatures this afternoon will also be similar to yesterday with
highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. Although, a cooler night is in
store as temperatures decrease into the the mid to low 30s across
northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. Clouds clearing from the north
will aid in the overnight radiational cooling. Frost is likely for
these northern portions of the region Thursday morning, but only if
the cloud cover decreases overnight. A frost advisory may be needed
if the sky conditions are still set to clear out. Further to the
south across northeast Iowa and southern Wisconsin, slightly higher
overnight temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 40s.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday through Tuesday)

Thursday will bring a welcoming break from this gloomy and wet
weather as high pressure slides into the region from the northwest.
Although the chances are low, some light rain showers are possible
across the far southern portions of the area from northeast Iowa
into far southwest Wisconsin. Minor accumulations are possible.
Mostly dry conditions are expected by the evening. Afternoon
temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s are anticipated with
overnight temperatures dipping into the upper 30s to 40s.

An upper-level low pressure system currently sitting over the Four
Corners region will begin its progression to the northeast into the
central plains on Friday. It will continue lifting to the northeast
through the Great Lakes region on Saturday. The next round for
showers and storms are on track to move into the region with this
system on Friday night with elevated chances lasting through much of
Saturday before clearing out from the west in the evening.

Afternoon temperatures in the 60s to low 70s are anticipated over
the weekend and into the first half of the work week. Dry
conditions are expected Sunday and lasting through much of the
work week as surface high pressure builds into the area as the
mid to upper level flow becomes more northwesterly with a weak
ridge moving in from the west. Temperatures in the upper 70s may
be possible by mid week.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Wednesday night)
Issued at 1051 PM CDT Tue Sep 8 2020

Local and regional radars show the area is somewhat in between
rounds of showers with one area moving off to the east and the
next developing/moving in from the southwest. Enough activity in
between these two areas to maintain a VCSH mention at both sites
with VFR conditions. The next round of showers will spread over
the area Wednesday in conjunction with the next short wave trough
and as another band of frontogenesis develops in the 850-500 mb
layer. This frontogenesis looks to remain over the region for much
of the day keeping the showers going for much of the day. Ceilings
expected to come down to MVFR and could tough IFR at times. The
frontogenesis looks to weaken Wednesday afternoon allowing the
showers to move off to the east with the short wave trough. With a
well saturated boundary layer, expect that the MVFR ceilings will
remain for much of the evening.
