High Impact Weather Potential: Minimal. A few non-severe
thunderstorms possible across eastern Upper Michigan Friday.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast: Afternoon analysis reveals low
amplitude upper level ridging across the northern Plains feeding
into a departing trough through New England. Large expanse of
surface high pressure is centered over Wisconsin and spans the
Midwest and has been building into the Great Lakes through the
day. Further upstream, fast moving short-wave impulse and surface
low is progressing eastward through Alberta...and will impact us
tomorrow. We had a decent amount of heating/lake induced cloud
cover earlier in the day, as well as some lingering showers in NE
Lower Michigan. But cloud cover and remaining showers are now
fading rather quickly.

Surface high pressure/dry air slide across the state tonight
leading to quiet weather. Upstream short-wave impulse and
attending surface low in Alberta will advance through south-
central Canada tonight and across Ontario on Friday.

Details: Remaining cloud cover will largely fade as we get into
the evening, although with some modest over water instability
remaining, some lake cloud cover may continue to stream off Lake
Superior into the eastern U.P...until low level winds back later
on tonight. But largely clear skies anticipated tonight with
diminishing winds this evening. That sets the stage for another
rather chilly night, although winds will back SW and begin to
increase again late which might curtail or reverse the temperature
drop. All told, will have lows mostly in the middle to upper 30s
with some of the cold spots dropping down to around freezing.

Meanwhile, aforementioned short-wave and attending surface low
will press rather quickly into and across the western/northern
Great Lakes overnight through Friday. Strong low level flow
develops across the western Great Lakes late overnight into
Friday with H8 flow ramping up to 40 to 50 knots Friday morning
and driving warmer air back into northern Michigan. Strongest warm
advection/QG-forcing for ascent will take aim across Lake Superior
and southern Ontario late tonight through mid afternoon Friday
with a batch of showers sliding through that region and clipping
the U.P. Accompanied by steeper mid level lapse rates and axis of
MUCAPE leaning into the region, also cannot rule out some
elevated non-severe thunderstorms across Lake Superior, also
clipping parts of the U.P.

South of the bridge is expected to remain largely rain-
free...perhaps showers just skirting the tip of the mitt. But
there will be another period of cloudier skies through the morning
followed by thinning cloud cover in the afternoon. But northern
Lower Michigan will be positioned well into the warm sector with
breezy southwest winds developing and temps warming to the upper
60s to lower 70s. A brief return to early to mid September
normals.

High Impact Weather Potential...Minimal.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast and possible outcomes...After warm front
moves through the forecast area Friday afternoon/evening, there may
be a chance for rain showers, near ANJ, but both of the models push
the rain quickly west. The QPF, that the models spit out is just
over the St. Mary's River, so it will be a close call, but think
that the speed of the rain, should end up rain free. There is also a
little uncertainty for Lake Effect rain Saturday afternoon, but
think that if the model moisture is right, then LE rain is unlikely,
but would rather isolated. However, by Saturday night, High pressure
builds into the region and keep the region rain free through Sunday
evening.

High Impact Weather Potential...Thunderstorms possible Monday
afternoon, and evening, but not severe.

Extended (Sunday Evening through Thursday)...High pressure in the
region remains through Monday morning. Monday afternoon, as the cold
front moves into the forecast area, thunderstorms will be possible,
but not likely, although rain is expected into Tuesday as the cold
air could produce LE Rain, but the soundings look dry. The weather
does look to dry out on the ECMWF, by the GFS for Wednesday/Thursday
looks rainy. Not sure which way to lean at this point, as the trend
of the ECMWF recently was to back track to toward the GFS a bit, so
we'll see.

SCT-BKN VFR cloud cover will gradually thin out through the
afternoon hours. Warm front will slide up through the region

leading to lighter winds tonight. But increasing winds aloft late
tonight into Friday will bring some low level wind shear to NW
Lower Michigan Friday morning, and some gustiness across northern
Lower Michigan on Friday.

Some gustiness once again out there this afternoon with a few
gusts on Whitefish Bay and the Saint Marys pushing small craft
criteria. Winds/waves will lay down tonight as surface high
pressure slides across the state. But, winds will back quickly to
the southwest late tonight and become gusty once again for Friday.
Some gusts approaching low end gale force are possible across
Lake Michigan on Friday, particularly in the open waters. I've
opted not to hoist a gale warning for any Lake Michigan nearshore
areas at this juncture, but will go ahead and hoist SCA's for the
Lake Michigan zones as a start. Additional SCA headlines will
likely be needed for the rest of the northern nearshore areas in
later forecasts.
