...Lingering lake effect snow showers diminish...but lakeshore
flooding will remain an issue today...

High Impact Weather Potential...Lakeshore flooding will continue to
impact Mackinac county and our Lake Michigan shoreline counties this
morning.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast...Cold front continues to exit eastward
away from Michigan early this morning...as a rather strong upstream
ridge axis enters the Western Great Lakes region. Latest satellite
loop shows SKC across all of Wisconsin as strong subsidence and much
drier low level air arrives. Majority of cloud cover remaining
across

As we head into today...remaining lake effect snow showers will
continue to steadily diminish during the morning in response to
building subsidence...the arrival of drier low level air and
lowering inversion heights. Cannot rule out some patchy freezing
drizzle before precip comes to an end across Northern Lower Michigan
by around mid morning or so. A weak upper level wave coincident with
the upper level trough axis will clip Eastern Upper Michigan...
keeping small chances of light snow over this area thru much of the
day. Expect only another inch or so of new snow for this area today.
Given all of the above...will cancel all remaining Winter Wx
Advisories currently in effect thru 12Z. Will however need to extend
the Lakeshore Flood Advisories for Mackinac county and for all Lake
Michigan shoreline counties as gales continue to lash these areas
thru at least mid morning. Temps will hold nearly steady in the low
to mid 30s throughout the day.

Tonight will feature a brief break in the action as the upstream
surface ridge axis builds overhead this evening and then slides east
of our state overnight. Expect dry wx throughout the night. Mainly
clear skies in the evening will give way to increasing clouds from
SW to NE overnight ahead of our next system. Overnight low temps
will cool in the 20s.

...Another Day, Another Clipper...

High Impact Weather Potential...Moderate snow amounts possible
again.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast...Cold front begins to move across the
forecast area Tuesday morning. Models are in agreement that around
15z/Tue, we should have some decent snow showers as the mid level
dynamics and the cold front ushering in the colder 850 mb air to
boost the snow production near Emmet and Cheboygan counties. The
front moves across the region by the end of the day, leaving in its
wake, -15c to -20c 850 mb temperatures and NW winds in the 1000-850
mb layer. So lake effect will take command for the night and into
the morning on Wednesday when dry air begins to move into the region
and slowly diminish the snow. The sfc and 850 mb ridges will move
through the region around 03z/Thu warming the 850 mb temperature and
putting and end to any LES. However, around 09z we will start to get
the warm advection snow as the warm front begins to sharpen up over
the tip of the mitt and over E Upper.

Primary Forecast Concerns...main concern is that we have something
similar happen Tuesday night/Wednesday that we had happen tonight as
the LES coupled up early with the clipper/system snow (SLR were
~12:1). This allowed the snow amounts to overachieve, The lighter
amounts expected overnight were still advisory levels, for longer
than originally thought. This looks like a similar set up as the
front moves in and before the snow from the frontal passage ends,
the 850 mb temperatures have fallen and we get a more immediate
response from the Lakes. So Moderate amounts of snow seem to be the
case.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Sunday)

High Impact Weather Potential...Freezing rain possible Thursday?
Maybe a southern system on Sunday?

Thursday, The snow starts the morning, but the warm front moves
north and the warmer air begins to move into the forecast area,
and mixing the snow with rain. There are some signals for a short
period of freezing rain, until the sfc temperatures warm up. Tried
to keep the freezing rain to a chance with little to no
accumulation in the grids, as this is day 4, and think that the
chance for freezing rain may be a little over done as the
uncertainty is large. Models disagree with how long warm air
stays, which may cause some issues Friday morning with the sfc low
around freezing and the 850 mb temperatures around +2c.
Regardless, Friday, the cold front pushes through, and it looks
dry now. Once the 850 mb temperatures fall into the -10c and
colder range, LES is possible, but with the dry air, it may just
be minor snow, or just flurries. This would continue into
Saturday, as even drier air (850- 700 mb layer rh <10%) moves into
the region. Sunday, A southern branch system tries to move into
the Upper Great Lakes, but the dry air already over the region
helps to keep the precipitation out of the region.

Remaining light lake effect snow showers will end this morning as
strong high pressure and drier low level air build into Northern
Michigan. Clouds will diminish this afternoon...with SKC skies
expected this evening. Mid clouds will increase overnight ahead of
our next system. West winds will continue to gust to 20 to 30 kts
today...then diminish to around 10 kts this evening and shift to
the SW overnight.

Winds and waves will continue to reach gale warning criteria thru
this morning in the wake of a cold front that is now exiting east
away from Michigan. Lingering lake effect snow showers will continue
to gradually diminish this morning as high pressure and drier air
build into the region. Lakeshore flooding will also continue to be
and issue along the Mackinac county shoreline as well as much of our
Lake Michigan shoreline.
