Primary Forecast Concerns...Low cloud and thunder potential as
well as high temperatures Tuesday.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast...

A surface cold front and a deepening area of low pressure will
approach northern Michigan Tuesday. Unseasonably warm air will
continue to stream in ahead of this system. Increasing and
thickening clouds as well as shower chances will increase from
west to east through the day. There will likely be some embedded
thunderstorms just ahead of the front later in the afternoon on
into Tuesday evening with 0-1 km mixed layer capes of a few
hundred J/kg. No severe storms are anticipated at this time but
gusty winds are a possibility. South to southeast winds are
expected to hold temperatures up tonight to near those usually
experienced in summer with lows only in the upper 50s to mid 60s!
There are questions about how low clouds will be through the day
but assuming it's not a low overcast temperatures should once
again challenge long standing records. Forecast highs will range
from the mid 60s north to the low 70s south.

High impact weather potential: Slight chance of thunder Tuesday
night.

Pattern synopsis and forecast:

Another area of low pressure is progged to develop over the western
Great Lakes region. This developing low pressure will deepen quickly
Tuesday evening/night as an amplified inverted shortwave trails just
behind. The more widespread and heavier precipitation will fall
Tuesday evening and Tuesday night as the deepest moisture and best
synoptic support arrives over northern Michigan. With PWATs around
1.00" during this time frame, expect QPF amounts of 1.00"+ over
eastern upper (where more rain will fall with the help of the warm
front first and then following quickly behind with the cold
front...which will present a short of training effect over eastern
upper and possibly brush northwest lower as well) and 0.40" to 0.80"
over northern lower. There will be a slight chance of some embedded
thunder over eastern upper and the Tip of the Mitt for a short
period Tuesday night as the said low pressure system treks through
central upper Michigan. Winds will continue to be southerly as the
forecast area remains wedged between the aformentioned low pressure
system to our west and high pressure to our east. Winds will be
gusty...gusting to around 20-30mph Tuesday night through Wednesday
(up to 35-45mph...near the immediate shoreline of Lake Michigan and
the Straits area...especially overnight Tuesday). Winds do finally
veer to more westerly after the cold front passes through, but still
remaining gusty. Rain chances also diminish and sky cover clears
quickly behind the front as much drier air and another high pressure
center over the Mississippi Valley ridges into northern Michigan.
This high pressure will decrease cloudiness Wednesday afternoon
through the evening hours, leaving the forecast area with mostly
clear to partly cloudy skies and precipitation-free weather through
Thursday. Winds will begin to back a bit more southwesterly and
decrease in intensity as the aforementioned high pressure continues
to build into the forecast area by Thursday morning. Wind gusts of
only 10-15mph during the afternoon hours due to boundary
layer mixing expected at this time.

Temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 30s by Wednesday
morning and only rise a few degrees during the day as the CAA behind
the aforementioned low pressure system nearly suppresses the daytime
heating...only reaching into the low to mid 40s. Thursday
temperatures will increase a bit, reaching into the mid 40s to near
50 degrees. Temperatures Wednesday night will drop into the upper
20s to near 30 degrees.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Monday)

High impact weather potential: None

The high pressure mentioned in the previous forecast period will
continue to dominate northern Michigan's weather through Thursday
night. This will provide mostly clear to partly cloudy skies with
clouds beginning to increase later in the afternoon/evening hours as
a weak area of upper-level low pressure moves through the forecast
area, bringing mostly cloudy skies and a chance of some light rain
and maybe a few snow flakes mixed in late Thursday night into early
Friday morning. This will be replaced quickly by another large area
of high pressure and dry air, ridging in to the Great Lakes region
Friday afternoon and remaining in place through Saturday...providing
another couple of days with some mostly clear to partly cloudy
skies. Another storm system developing in the central Great Plains
will begin to descend on the forecast area late Saturday night and
Sunday...returning rain/snow chances to end the weekend. Any snow
chances appear to be during the overnight/early morning hours over
inland and high terrain areas.

Daytime temperatures will continue to be near normal/normal...in the
upper 30s and into the 40s. Lows will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s
throughout the long term period.

Low pressure and an associated cold front will slowly approach the
taf sites toward the end of the taf period. Clouds are expected to
increase later tonight and especially Tuesday morning in advance
of this system. It's a bit uncertain on how low cloud heights
will end up being late tonight/Tue morning but will continue to
bring in mainly mvfr cigs from west to east. There will also be a
chance of rain showers late in the taf period with isolated
thunderstorms possible just after the taf period (Tue pm and eve).
South southwest winds will be a bit gusty through the period,
especially Tuesday. Low level wind shear is expected to develop
tonight and continue into early Tuesday.
