Going forecast was in pretty good shape overall. The center of a
surface high will gradually build across the forecast area later
this afternoon into tonight, accompanied by lighter and more
variable winds. However, until this occurs, expect light northwest
to north-northwest flow lake effect to impact the area for the
next few hours. Have extended PoPs into the afternoon as a result,
although any precipitation will be minimal. Otherwise only minor
hourly tweaks were needed at this time.

Pattern synopsis and forecast:
Upper level troughing with cold air advection in N/NW flow,
continues to bring fairly widespread clouds, as well as some light
coastal lake effect rain and inland light snow/flurries across nrn
Michigan. Temperatures were more than cold enough for the lake effect
ct machine, with H8 readings -5C to -10C, with resulting delta t's
at 16C to 20C. Much drier air associated with high pressure was seen
in Ontario and the upper midwest, out ahead of mid level ridging in
the Pac NW.
The upper level troughing will slide east through today, while the
upstream ridging moves overhead late tonight. At the sfc, the drier
air and high pressure become dominant with low level temperatures
warming back up to -1c to -3C through tonight, just marginally cold
enough for some spots of lake effect clouds, as winds swing around
from N/NW to southerly. Any lake effect precipitation will come to
an end today however, with many areas seeing skies clear later today
through tonight. All-in-all pretty quiet weather.
Highs today will generally be in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Lows
tonight will range through the 20s.

High impact weather potential: Accumulating snow possible Sunday and
strong winds possible Saturday afternoon and again Sunday.
Pattern synopsis and forecast:
The remnants of Hurricane Zeta has departed the northeastern
CONUS as a large area of high pressure and much drier air replaces
it. Northern Michigan will be on the western periphery of said high
pressure and the eastern side of the next cold front approaching
from the west. This cold front is associated with a low pressure
system near James Bay and stretches southward through Oklahoma.
This will create a tight pressure gradient with some gusty southerly
winds Saturday. The winds will diminish in intensity slightly
overnight Saturday, but ramp up throughout the day Sunday as the
boundary layer mixes with diurnal heating and aided by CAA. Some
models have just partial mixing producing wind gusts in the mid to
upper 40kt range and full mixing in the low to mid 50kt range over
even the inland areas of northern Michigan. Winds begin veering and
finally reaching northwesterly flow behind the departing cold front
Sunday afternoon and also beginning to gradually diminish in
intensity by sunset. A strong area of high pressure builds over the
midwestern region of the CONUS with very dry air and subsidence
continuing to produce a tight pressure gradient between it and the
area of low pressure continuing it's eastward trek across Canada and
cold northwesterly flow over the Great Lakes region. There will be
delta t/s nearing 16-20C (with 850 mb temps of -10 to -12C and
lake temps of 11 to 14C) and a bit of moisture to work with. All
in all, there is a chance this will end up being transient banding
over the area and not dumping snow over one location for most of the
time...but rather spreading it over the CWA, limiting accumulation
amounts for most through Sunday. As of right now, highest snow
totals through Sunday appear to be in the 2-3" range over portions
of northwest lower...with some locally higher amounts possible, but
not too much higher. Eastern upper will be in the 1-2" range, mostly
over interior portions. Areas in all of northern Michigan along the
lakeshores of the Great Lakes are progged to only receive less than
an inch. This also is in agreement with SREF plumes, having a
mean of 1.5" over inland areas of northwest lower and lesser over
eastern upper and all along the shorelines. The last run has
decreased the snowfall amounts...with a spread of 0.5" to 3" at the
highest location of northwest lower Michigan.
Temperatures will warm Saturday with WAA on southerly winds to
the mid to upper 40s and only reaching into the mid to upper 30s on
the cold northwesterly winds on Sunday. Lows Saturday night will be
in the upper 20s to low 30s.
.LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Thursday)

High impact weather potential: Minimal
Another area of weak low pressure and associated moisture descends
on the forecast area from western Ontario Monday morning, backing
winds to more westerly. As this weak system departs the forecast
area...winds then veer back to northwesterly. 850mb temps will be
cold enough to possibly develop some light lake effect showers
Monday, but chances will diminish throughout the day with a large
area of high pressure and very dry air building into the forecast
area. This high pressure will provide precipitation free weather
Tuesday through the rest of the work week. High temperatures will
begin Monday in the upper 30s to mid 40s and warm a bit each day
until reaching into the 50s Wednesday and remaining in the 50s
throughout the rest of the forecast period. Lows will be in the 20s
Sunday and Monday night and warm a bit each day until lows only drop
into the 40s by Wednesday night.

Lake effect clouds and spotty rain/snow showers will gradually
dissipate later today as high pressure builds into the area and

quiet weather night, winds will start to become gusty out of the
south Saturday morning.

tonight, making way for deep low pressure to cross Canada this
weekend. Rain is expected to arrive Saturday night, but turn to rain

increase in speed through the day Saturday, when gales are expected
to develop over the Great Lakes. Gales are then expected to continue
