High impact weather potential: Minor lakeshore flooding potential
beginning late Monday.

Pattern synopsis/forecast: At the current hour, mid-upper level
trough axis sits squarely atop the forecast area with weak low
pressure centered across the Ohio Valley. Both features will shift
east through the remainder of the day as broad ridging shifts over
the Great Lakes and elongated high pressure over the Mississippi
Valley/Midwest builds underneath favorable subsidence aloft. As a
result, continued diminishing PoP/cloud trends will remain the rule
into this evening with partly clear skies eventually prevailing
tonight into the day Monday.

Primary forecast concerns/challenges: Diminishing precip
chances/clouds. Chilly temperatures tonight before beginning to
rebound Monday.

Lingering pesky showers remain across portions of northern lower
Michigan this afternoon; however, much less widespread than
previously noted this morning that led to rain totals ranging from
0.20 - 0.60" south of the bridge. This diminishing trend will
continue to be the rule as upper-level support and deep moisture
gradually shift eastward through the remainder of the daylight hours
as high pressure centered to our southwest gradually noses in to the
western Great Lakes. While it'll take a bit of time yet, ultimately
expecting partly clear skies to prevail later this evening into
tonight. With a relatively weak wind field expected tonight behind
today's occasional breeziness, tonight's low temperatures are
expected to return to rather chilly values area-wide...ranging from
the upper 20s in the typically cooler spots to the upper 30s/near 40
degrees at the lakeshores.

However, by mid-morning Monday, southwesterly return flow/low-mid
level warm air advection is expected to ramp up in earnest as the
gradient begins to tighten ahead of a system progged to slide well
to our north late Monday into Tuesday (ultimately dragging a
moisture-starved cold front across the area Tuesday morning).
Southwesterly gusts of 15-25 mph certainly look likely across the
bulk of northern Michigan, with some locally higher afternoon gusts
to near 35 mph possible across eastern upper and near the Lake
Michigan shoreline (gales over Lake Michigan). This begins to raise
concern for some minor lakeshore flooding issues, especially along
the Lake Michigan shoreline of Mackinac County, and to a lesser
extent the remainder of the northwest lower shoreline. This should
also allow chilly air to retreat back northward setting the stage
for high temperatures 5-10 degrees above Monday's...ranging from the
mid 50s to near 60 degrees.

High impact weather potential: Thunder chances Wednesday.

Primary forecast concerns/challenges: Thunder chances Wednesday.

Southwesterly flow will advect some warmer air into the area on
Tuesday...with some areas reaching 60+ degrees and increasing
cloudiness ahead of a weak cold front. An upper level trough pattern
reenters the Great Lakes region and remains throughout the forecast
period. Shortwaves and associated moisture will pinwheel through the
long wave trough, providing chances of showers and even some
thunderstorms Wednesday. The thunderstorm chances Wednesday will
again depend on instability with cloudiness. Although the clouds are
forecast to mix out with diurnal heating during the afternoon hours.
Moisture associated with the upper level low and a surface low
pressure over Ontario may make that a little more difficult...with
possibly just rain showers and no thunder, although a weak cold
front could possibly create enough instability/lift to produce
thunder chances. Northwesterly flow behind the aforementioned cold
front brings in cooler weather, but will be slow to enter the
forecast area...still remaining in the 50s into the evening hours.
Daytime highs will be in the mid 50s to low 60s, while nighttime
lows will drop into the mid 40s. &&

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Sunday)

...Above Normal Temperatures During the Weekend...

High impact weather potential: Minimal.

High pressure begins to build into the region...decreasing
cloudiness and precipitation chances while increasing daytime
temperatures to above normal. Temperatures will reach into the mid
60s during the weekend...with some places passably reaching near
70 in the southeastern part of the forecast area.

Issued at 1230 PM EDT Sun Oct 4 2020

Low pressure centered across the Ohio Valley this afternoon will
continue to shift eastward this evening. Lingering showers across
many TAF sites are expected to continue to diminish in coverage
throughout the remainder of the day, hanging on the longest at APN.
Lifting cigs will also follow...with VFR conditions expected to
return across all of northern Michigan's terminals by mid-late
evening. North winds with a bit of occasional gustiness through
the remainder of the afternoon become light and variable tonight
before increasingly gusty southwesterly return flow ramps up
through the day Monday.

Low pressure centered across the Ohio Valley this afternoon will
continue to depart east, ultimately allow the pressure gradient to
continue to relax while bringing diminishing precip/cloud trends to
the western Great Lakes this evening into tonight. However,
southwesterly flow ramps up ahead of a system progged to pass well
to our north late Monday into Tuesday. Increasing gustiness expected
to prevail through the day Monday with the potential for gale force
gusts on the nearshore waters of northern Lake Michigan by Monday
afternoon while SCA criteria should be the rule across Lake Huron,
Whitefish Bay and the St. Marys River.
